Fizzled motivation?

So I noticed that people were really on board with this for the first month, but then everyone sort of dropped out like flies. Perhaps kicking this off wasn't such a great idea after all.

I'm really just making this thread to see if anyone still cares about this. I'm totally on board for keeping it going if people want to continue with redesigning/fixing levels, but as it stands, I don't think there's enough interest. However, I should probably add that I wouldn't exactly be disappointed if I had to kill it either - I mean, the hack was already completed nearly 5 years ago now, and all this was from day 1 was an attempt to fix/spice it up a bit.

It's really up to you guys.
I still care about this.

By the way, I haven't dropped progress on Adventum Terminus yet, I'm still remapping the level, but I don't have time to work much on it. Also, it takes forever to work with that tileset since I have to place every brick one by one since because of palette and size differences. I'll try to have it next week at most though.
I'm mostly done with 112, but it still requires some beta-testing, but I'm not sure about others.

--------------------
they say... i forgot
I noticed that activity was dying here as well. I do still care about this and am excited to see how much this hack could be improved, although I probably couldn't help with much. I think you should try to encourage more people to work a little harder on their levels and such (like you did with smwcp afaik) and maybe motivate them to finish faster and get progress going again.
I do care for SMWCP 1.5, I just have other stuff on my plate that have more priority over this right now - I'll admit I haven't been able to contribute much for this, though.. mostly for the issue with Dynamic Sprites I found, although S.N.N. sent me the files to fix that, I still didn't do that, hoping the next base ROM would come with the files inserted in the ROM, while in the meantime I could've done other stuff in priority.

E: Should I mention that there are many events running at once? Yes, I should.
Maybe having 3 site collabs at the same time wasn't the greatest idea?

--------------------
SMWCP1.5's low activity is probably because so little needs to be done and it's lower priority since there's a new site collab and everyone's going back to school. My bigger concern is that SMWC Island popped up with so little notice with all this on the table, plus the Halloween contest is starting soon, and it's going to be a lot of pressure on you to manage everything @S.N.N.

I think SMWCX needs to hurry up and run its course as it's been sitting there way too long with too little work being done on it and close to zero interest: let's set a deadline and just stop asking for/accepting levels after that date and assemble, test, and release it so we can move on, even if it's less than the 56 levels we desire for it.

We should not start any collabs at all until all 4 we have now are done, and try not to run more than one official contest at a time while we have all these collabs.

I'll re-enter SMWCP1.5 work to make adjustments to my own level after leod finishes turning my title screen balloons into animated sprites and fixes my Map16 mess for the current ROM, but I don't think I'll be doing any more work on SMWCP1.5 other than that.

Just look above you...
If it's something that can be stopped, then just try to stop it!
I also noticed that it seemed to have died. Well, Mineyl was supposed to be making graphics for one of my levels (the one that most needs a makeover), and he disappeared, so...I'm not sure what to do about that.

Possibly, but if you look at it:

-Only 2-3 people have any role in SMWCP2 at this point.
-SMWCX is being handled by a different crowd of people than any other collab.
-SMWC Island is easy enough to maintain, and it's something I've personally been motivated for since like 2006.

On top of that, there were a bunch of conversations on IRC involving a potential SMWCP1.5 prior to its conception, so it seemed like an ideal time to start. Really, I don't think the number of collabs is the problem at all - I think it's the content of the collabs.

That's another issue worth considering. Mineyl has periods of inactivity here, and he was definitely one of the top contributors to this project. I think his inactivity caused a motivation drop in everyone, including myself.

Isn't that how every single site project is?

Yeah, I had similar issues with the original tileset. Using LM's object extender thing (I forget, it's been years...) helped speed up the process, I could lay down a large chunk of standard brick pattern and then just put on the different coloured bricks. The current tileset doesn't seem to have the same pattern or repeatability though, mm..

Not really. SMWCP1 and SMWCP2 were active until all of the levels were done, SMWCI is active (and I imagine it will continue to be). The only exception appears to be SMWCX, but that's because the initial leaders I appointed sucked and couldn't be assed to continue updating it. Once someone else took over, motivation was reinstated.

Then again, I've done noting to personally promote SMWCX (eg. posting about it on our affiliates, even making news posts), so...
I think SMWCX was a pretty dumb thing from the start, considering the only people who made SMBX levels only came about once in a blue moon (and still do). We should have left that stuff to the talkhaus.

As for the motivation aspect, a ton of the bugs with the original "game" were ASM related. Not a lot of people have a lot of ASM experience, nor do they have access to the original files, so...

Yeah, that's pretty much the problem about it, I'm just randomly placing different sized-bricks one next to another. I'm already halfway through though, so I don't plan on restarting.

@Leictreon, I'll be testing your level and give you some feedback in your thread. If anybody else needs testing let me know.

I should have something witty to put here (even if it's just to update dated info), shouldn't I?

It's not a lack of interest for me, but I'm too busy with other things (mainly trying to improve on art) to primarily focus on this.

Idea: Add 1/2 new levels a world and make a whole new world with 20/30 levels.
People (I think) are more intrasted in making new levels then fixing up old ones...
There will actually be a new world with new levels in it. Not as much as you suggested though, just the ones remaining in the ROM.

Also I would like to partake in this collab if there are new levels...

I could suggest some more gameplay/desing ideas...if you want

Nope, that's fine, thanks.
If this does mange to get off the ground I will claim a new level
There aren't really any deadlines or anything for this project, and the hack is already *technically* a finished product regardless, so I assume like me most people put it on low priority.

That said, it doesn't mean I'm not still working on it (I'm quite close to finished actually.)
