As promised, it's time to begin this year's HLDC. This is going to be a fairly open and non-restrictive contest, but I do have a couple of ground rules I want to lay out.

RULES:
1. The theme of this contest is Halloween. In reality, you can design any sort of "scary" level - be it atmospheric, eerie, creepypasta-like, whatever you want. Keep in mind that this doesn't mean it has to necessarily be a ghost house (though if you have a good idea that would involve a ghost house, go for it).
2. You may use any resources you wish. Custom music, sprites, blocks, etc. are all fair game.
3. The deadline for this contest is November 10th, 2014. Submit all IPSes in this thread, and keep all other questions/discussion in the other thread.
4. You can work with a partner if you wish.

SCORING CRITERIA:
Judging will be done based on the following criteria:

ADHERENCE TO THEME (/20): The more spooky/creepy/whatever it is (i.e. the more it fits with the theme of Halloween), the higher this will be.
OVERALL DESIGN (/20): Is your level fair? Is it the right length (doesn't overstay its welcome, etc)? Is it fun to play?
CREATIVITY (/20): Did you design a regular old level with a few Halloween-styled graphics in it, or did you go all-out and do something unique?
AESTHETICS (/10): Do your chosen graphics/music/etc. fit the theme well?

The winning user will have created a level that is not only fun to play and well designed, but also one that adheres to the 'creepy' theme. The challenge of this contest lies in the integration of those two components.

I was kinda late in starting this, but it seems like I'll be only the second person to submit my entry. I have a lot of time on my hands, and the level isn't too long at only 17 (decimal) screens. It's a fortress level based around Halloween-themed enemies like Dry Bones, Splunkins and Swooper Bats. I also got a nice Shade Man theme port from imamelia to use in it for good measure.

[Story]

Mario has wandered into a ghostly forest after loosing tack of where he was while stomping on tons of Goombas. Looking for shelter he goes into the only residence he sees. Unfortunately the house is haunted by ghouls and ghosts, but they give Mario an option. If he can successfully complete their coin challenge then he can come back anytime he wishes, but if he fails the ghosts will haunt him for years to come. Can Mario escape the ghost house by collecting 99 haunted coins!? Come in and try it if YOU DARE! Muhahahahah

This is a big moment for me because its my very first kinda complete hack I've ever done in my entire life that I've actually made a patch for and submitted here.

I've been wanting to make a hack for years, but lacked the skills and time to do it.

I would also like to thank everyone who helped me make this. I posted lots of help threads in the help section and very generous people helped me.

With out the help of others I wouldn't have been able to accomplish this.

A few things to note:

I applied the L/R reset level patch just because I was experimenting with patches and then I found out that I really didn't like the patch in my game. I tried to remove it but was not able to so its in there. The only downside is that if you hit it accidentally it resets the level and you probably don't want to do that.

Also is it possible to submit this to the hack section as a stand alone hack?

I hope you guys like it. Please let me know what you think about it and post your feedback. I've spent like a month testing the levels and trying to make sure that they are well made.

Thanks again, its mostly a vanilla hack, but don't worry as its tons of fun! :)

PS. I really tried to focus and create sound level designs. I really worked hard to make sure the levels felt fun to play and I took extra care in the enemy placement.
