As promised, it's time to begin this year's HLDC. This is going to be a fairly open and non-restrictive contest, but I do have a couple of ground rules I want to lay out.
1. The theme of this contest is Halloween. In reality, you can design any sort of "scary" level - be it atmospheric, eerie, creepypasta-like, whatever you want. Keep in mind that this doesn't mean it has to necessarily be a ghost house (though if you have a good idea that would
involve a ghost house, go for it).
2. You may use any resources you wish. Custom music, sprites, blocks, etc. are all fair game.
3. The deadline for this contest is November 10th, 2014. Submit all IPSes in this thread, and keep all other questions/discussion in the other thread.
4. You can work with a partner if you wish.
Judging will be done based on the following criteria:
ADHERENCE TO THEME (/20):
The more spooky/creepy/whatever it is (i.e. the more it fits with the theme of Halloween), the higher this will be.
OVERALL DESIGN (/20):
Is your level fair? Is it the right length (doesn't overstay its welcome, etc)? Is it fun to play?
Did you design a regular old level with a few Halloween-styled graphics in it, or did you go all-out and do something unique?
Do your chosen graphics/music/etc. fit the theme well?
The winning user will have created a level that is not only fun to play and well designed, but also one that adheres to the 'creepy' theme. The challenge of this contest lies in the integration of those two components.
IS THERE A PRIZE?
The usual trophy/bragging right, but Zaxxon is also offering up some Steam codes here
