Mario and the prison pipe (need new name)

On its way is MARIO AND THE PRISON PIPE !

Mario got himself stuck into a new world where everthing seem to rely with law... How to get out of there, whos behind all this ? Do the wardens acutally do their job correctly? Who are the moving bros ?

Those lands seem mysterious... what seems to be a unexpected adventure turn out into a real nightmare !

Look, those are the moving bros ! They will help you trough the game.

Disorder mayhem, level 2, makes you move and introduce the World one main villan, the WARDEN !



Most of level 3. Want the key ? Got to jump well ! Level 3 is actually the first real level : About twice in lenght compared to the others.

Keys and Key doors will be most likely used in all the levels, and all of them will require a little challenge, and usually mark the waypoint.

The story will unfold at the Warden castle, and also in World 2. The story is gonna go really dark at that point, but it's still going to be a game. (if i can change yoshi to what i want him to be...i need help T_T) I plan 5 worlds with increasing difficulty.

I have to point somethings I saw on the screenshots:

-There, could't make a better intro: This pallete isn't good. If you want to use a ghost-house pallete, I highly recommend you to use SMW's FG Pallete 4, since it's the pallete used on Ghost Houses. Or, best, try a custom pallete.
-They got captured somehow: BG is too realistc. It doesn't match with the cartoony sprites and the bed. Status bar's colors overwrited. Also, what did you do with the Chucks? I didn't like them so much.
-Screenshot of level one : Solitary road, with the short ''key toturial'': It looks alright, the only thing I didn't like was the green pipe. I don't know how to explain, but it has "too many similar green colors). You should make a gradient: From Dark to Light. I hope you can understand what I mean.
-Look, those are the moving bros ! They will help you trough the game: Status bar's colors are overwrited again. Also I didn't like the Background Color for the Message Box. I prefer the standard black with white letters.
-Most of level 3: Status bar's colors overwrited again... Also I liked that level. It looks an interesting level.


All I really see wrong myself is
1) The intro is too bland, from what I see
2) The palettes make my eyes itch
3) as Mario_SuS said, the clash of styles in picture 3./

Oh, and its not avalanches when its rocks. Those are rock slides.

Fixed pallete in the intro
The chucks are prisonners. The white and blank outffit dosen't go well, so i put the orange one.
Il try to fix the pipe, but i kinda like it that way.
For the moving bros, im having a HARD time changing the background so i can make Mario pallete okay. I might just choose anotherb bg.
Level 3 Status bar fixed.

The intro as more in it, Mario was running for his life and some bullet bills had just passed.
For the palletes i am trying my best.

I'm already working on a hack that starts in a prison.

If you look at page 9 or so of this forum, then i was first.

Seriously, mine isin't directly in a prison.

and MORE seriously, What the hell was that? Please talk about my hack, not yours -.- We don't have the same plot, and we will probably not make the exact same story.

Next time, pm me if you want me to stop my hack or something. You aren't clear.

Hello there, i had stopped working for a week because of one way-too long homework. Here's a bit of level 4, ''Authority Meadow Meadow'' I think a demo will be out soon, 2-3 levels missing.

This hack is looking very nice, still didn't like too much the name, though. I like your edited Ball n' Chains (Wooden Spikes) and so did I like your killer bees, however, the shine effect taht the bees generate is a bit weird. What exactly these bees are? Are they an edit of an existing sprite or a custom sprite made by you?

They are magikoopa magic, edited with tweaker. You don't see any magikoopa (Nor touch/kill/be killed by contact), but the glow effect tells you where they will spawn. I am still not eough good in asm to make sprites follow you :-(

Wow, never thought of this, nice idea Kokojo! Nor am I good at ASM, I only know the basic opcodes, I need to learn it when I don't be lazy enough... Oh well.

Time to point:

- I liked very much your Wooden Spike Ball. They're excellent.
- Also on Status Bar, the "TIME" and the coin symbol are messed up. As far I can see, the only wrong color is the border of them, they should be black instead of white.

You gave me a test demo, and I have to congratulate on lots of things.

The graphics you edited are amazing.

The warden boss fight, was very interesting, and planned greatly. It was fun and challenging at the same time as well, it's not the same "just jump on the enemy and die" kind of thing.

You had some custom blocks in there too so thats a + as well :P.

Although some levels have some odd palettes, and some bugs etc, it's a good hack, with great potential.

Geez, I was just stating a similarity. Anyways, I like your ideas, like the two "prison mates". The hack looks okay, nothing too special, though. No, I do not to stop production of this hack. BTW, didn't have to get all pissed and flame me like that. Just saying.

Pretty interesting the Warden Boss Battle. As you said before, it'll be more nice with a bit of ExGFX. Also I have a question, does he die after a simple dustball?

Yeah, it would be cool if Warden didn't look like a Hammer Brother ;)

1. This is a very clever looking boss battle. I like your manipulation of the koopa shell to create a "dust ball", but you should call it a disco ball instead.

2. Authority Meadow is a crappy name, and the ground tiles look ugly. However, the CUSTOM graphics in themselves look absolutely beautiful. Edited spike balls FTW (I changed mine into a lollipop candycane :D)

Dark blue, definitely. His face seems to lack shading, though. How about using a custom pallete for that level and giving his skin more tones?

Well, kokojo kindly asked me to play test the hack, and thus I have. I'm here to give my honest opinion, at his request.

First I'll start with the cons. Luckily, there were very few times I really felt something needed to be changed.

First and most importantly, the message boxes. Yes, I realize English doesn't seem to be your first language, and most of the boxes were alright, but you should really have somebody fix them up for you a bit. Other than that, they were very good as far as directing the player, and not being stupid and cliched. ^_^

Second is the Koopas. Their armor is square, but it flies along the ground, which looks a little silly. You should try to make the armor round, so it looks like it would actually roll.

Thirdly is the Moving Bros. House. There's a turn block at the top which I assume has something in it, but I couldn't figure out how to get up there without flying, but I never got a cape to try it. Also one of the Bros. houses could do without the coins behind the midway point pole and the orange water there is a bit glitchy.

The pros here are pretty well in number. The Chargin' Chuck inmates fit perfectly, and the Koopas themselves look very much like prison guards. On top of the graphics, the gameplay is very fair, and if player don't know certain tricks, such as spin-jumping to reach heights, they learn them quick, since there is a place set up that makes it very obvious to do so, and message boxes tell you to use the bees as a jump boost. The Warden Boss is also very frantic and fun, since you must jump on the ball, grab it, throw it at the wall and all the while look for the hammer raining down.

If you continue this hack the way it's going, and fix those few small qualms, I think you'll have a winner on your hands!
