Introducing Newer Apocalypse

This is my second Hack and so far I've worked on it since RVLution Wii was finished. I'm hoping this Game will be better
than RVLution Wii, as that one was quite buggy.

Features

-17 all new Stages spanned over two horrific Worlds
-Lack of Checkflags for an extra Challenge (with two Exceptions)
-New Music and unused Music from NewerSMBW
-Plenty of scary Retextures

Storyline, if needed:
Newer Apocalypse takes place about two Years after Newer.

Recently, strange Events occured in the Area of Newer Island. Rifts were spotted around Sky Mountain, Rubble Ruins and
Goldwood Forest and Sakura Village was evacuated. Freezeflame Glacier began to melt and the Crystal Caverns were flooded
with Lava due to the Volcano erupting without Pause. Princess Peach decides to travel to Yoshi's Island to find out what is wrong.

After no one has heard anything from the Princess for two Weeks, Mario and Friends rush to Yoshi's Island suspecting Bowser
to be the Culprit. But upon reaching the once wonderful Paradise, they find a dark and gloomy World. The entire Island was clad
in Fog and the Water seemed to be Blood. Mario didn't hesitate to head off into the Fog to find his beloved Princess not knowing
what would await him.

Wow, this looks absolutely amazing. Definitely motivates me to learn how to hack Newer SMB. I love the idea of Yoshi's Island turning into some sort of hell. I don't know what it is, but I've always loved creepy/mysterious environments in videogames.

Keep up the good work, I hope to see much more from you!
I am pleased, that you like my work. Beware the bugs though, they tend to sneak into my hacks and games very easily.

And I am not sure, if I will create another NSMBW hack. I have one planned, but since a couple months my motivation has fallen down a cliff. I am, along with other people, working on a hack titled Newer Super Luigi Wii which would relate to NewerSMBW like NSLU does to NSMBU and contribute as much as possible. However, as I said, there is one more small hack (two actually, but the second one is more of a full hack) planned and if I ever regain my full motivation to mod NSMBW, I'll be sure to announce it here as well. Stay tuned. #wario{:)}

This game was very interesting. I liked the idea of a scary, hell-like game world in a Mario game. The game was very gloomy and sparked a lot of curiosity. This entire game is essentially what would be expected of a World 8. Great job!

But I do have some complaints. The first is a VERY big deal. Apparently, if I go through a map transition on the over world, there's a chance the game may freeze, and the game freezes often! If the game doesn't freeze, the music on the over world will literally sound like very loud TV static. Going into a level and going back to the over world from the level in any way will return the over world to normal until you use another map transition on the over world. This is very serious and game breaking and it needs to be fixed A.S.A.P.!

What's with that green checkerboard area? Why is it there? It seems very pointless. It doesn't seem to be needed. The pipe at the beginning of World 1 can essentially be replaced with that arrow tile that's at the beginning of Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii. Am I incorrect here? Am I missing something here?

I also notice that the banner at the bottom of the over world screen that says the world name says, "Yoshi's Island", while you're in the checkerboard area. What?

I liked the
"World of Nothing" and "Castle Bleck" from Super Paper Mario
. It was a very unique twist. You would NOT expect that in New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

But even then
World 2
seemed inconsistent. 3D models in a pure 2D environment don't mix very well. It also just seemed weird to see stuff like coins, bricks, enemies,
and...color in a world where there would otherwise be, well, nothing
. I don't know. The place just had a different feel than
Super Paper Mario
.

You should also change the "NEWER SUPER MARIO BROS. WII" text in the message box that appears when you get all of the Star Coins to say "NEWER APOCALYPSE" instead.

Overall, this game was good. I'd probably rate it 7.5/10.

And PLEASE fix the issue that's described in the second paragraph of this post. And either remove that green checkerboard area or, if that can't be done, provide some kind of explanation for why it must be there.


Also, I only have 4 stars on my save file, even after completing everything, or so I think. How do I get all 5?

It's there because when we made Newer we lazily hardcoded the first world to be "Yoshi's Island" and have the green coloration of the HUD... but, you can easily change that if you edit the source. In fact, you can even just hex edit the DlCODEXX_X.bin files.

With file do you need to edit in order to change the name?
I don't remember, do a search for "Yoshi's" in the files, and you'll find it.

During bugtesting, the game never froze or crashed for me, except when staying on the title screen for too long.

You certainly are. This 'placeholder world' is there because of the semi-hardcoded name of the first world. At that time I did not know how to edit it, because it would always default to 'Yoshi's Island' which should not happen. Therefore both RVLution Wii and Newer Apocalypse use this placeholder map. You'll only see it once in the game anyways.

Huh? Didn't I tell you in the topic on rvlution once it was due to wrong ADPCMInfo.bin? And give you a python script to fix it?

Just run it from a folder where you placed all of your mapX.er files, and it should generate a file to put into /NewerRES
Well...I did patch the ADPCMinfo.bin file with that script, but that didn't work for some reason. >_>
