There seems to be a broad misunderstanding that the staff application thing is going to happen on a yearly basis. It ISN'T. It only happens when we decide that we could need some extra help without knowing who to consult. And it will probably take quite a while for that to happen again. Just saying.

Makes sense to do it like you did when recruiting so many so fast really. Never seen it done like that before, as it's usually done more privately. I expect future recruitment to be done in smaller numbers and probably through PM/mail, since the staff members now are many enough to discuss it properly behind closed boards.// Highwind II
There are 28 total staff members right now. I'm sure that after a while, some of them will move on from SMW hacking, become too inactive, or give up their position for some other reason, but for now there is plenty of staff.
Some think that people who are chosen to be in the staff is judged by popularity.
I can tell you that that is not the case. I myself am none too popular, yet I got to be a mod. On the otherhand, people who are very popular didn't make the cut.

Of course they were, but not only. I'd say it was a mix of popularity and skill. Newer people wouldn't stand a chance, simply because noone knows if they act appropriate for such responsibility yet. That's a good reason for me. I think all the staff were picked well, especially since I was surprised by some picks until reading their applications, which were well-written and honest.

I just noticed today that there are only 27 Mods instead of 28? Did somebody just get demoted? Or is just me miscalculating? And If a Mod did just get demoted, who?
