Hey, it's about time I started this thread on my 6-8. Sorry for not posting anything in a while unless necessary, I am trying not to post too much to reach 5000 posts, cause i'll be doing something then and i'm not quite ready yet.

So i'm gonna make a thread as S.N.N. requested. Here's some screenshots. I merged them all into 1 image so I have a smaller my files inventory so it doesn't clog up with a bunch of other screenshots.

In that screenshot where Yoshi is riding an arrow lift and sees a pinwheel, there was supposed to be Shy Guys there, but there isn't because sprite limits.

The last screenshot is a preview of Door 3's area. Speaking of doors, the gimmick is where Yoshi picks a door, and each door has a different challenge.

Door 1: Find the Door! Yoshi must find the door and other hidden things in sand blocks and Blue Spike Balls. Can you find what you're looking for?

Door 2: Solve the Puzzles! Oh, no! Yoshi is trapped in jail! He must get out somehow...After that, the flower is in plain sight...But how do you get it? Figure out puzzles to get it!

Door 3: Reach the End! Yoshi must use every transformation to reach the end of the course. Can you find all 5 red coins along the way? Your prize is a flower, so reach that end! If you run out of time, you fail the challenge...

Door 4: Undecided. I was gonna do skiing in a sewer like SNN suggested, but Skiing isn't Sewer-friendly, sadly. Any suggestions?

Door 5: Complete the Obstacle Course! Yes, there is a Door 5. It only appears when you get the same number of the door you had last time, to prevent repetitiveness. This is just your basic YI level, for the most part.

...I also just realized that Raiden will need to add more ASM to make sure Yoshi goes to Kamek's room after going through 2 rooms.

Other than that, i'm on my way. Comments?

Are you going to get rid of the cement block spam in two of those screenshots? It really isn't pleasing to look at.

Other than that, it looks interesting. I'll probably be watching this thread.
Use colored cement blocks instead of the grey ones for stuff like that, they look a lot better.

Looks like it could be interesting, definitely. Although I think it would really add to the aesthetic if the first area used the Round Mountains background. Possibly with a grey custom palette after insertion.

Also, it looks like there are some item memory issues. If you have an object or sprite that affects item memory, try not to place it in the same vertical column as an item that's essential to getting 100%. If the player collects the coin or cloud before the red coin or flower and either exit the sublevel or scroll it off-screen far enough, it will have disappeared permanently when they return. It doesn't look nearly as bad as it is in 3-8, but you should keep that in mind. It's important.
Interesting use of the flower garden graphics. I like the gimmick you used there, even if the same was in the original 6-8. Nice to see some different challenges in all doors. I have to agree about the cement blocks, they don't look very good. You can keep the same ground like in the previous screens (if it's possible) or use coloured cement blocks like mentioned, but I guess normal ground would fit better.

Everything else looks good, but test your level for sprite memory errors or slowdown. I see lots of enemies going on there. Anyway, it's well done.
It might be possible to use a tileset changer much like how 4-4 used one after the Shark Chomp run. That way you don't have to build the exterior out of cement blocks.

My Let's Play channel (Current LP: Final Fantasy VI, MegaMari)
I'm gonna be off until new years or so, for 3 reasons:

1) C3, and I have to prepare for it so I can show off my hack's progress. It's not ready for a thread yet, but I can show it off at C3 instead.

2) VLDC, which is coming up next week. I'm gonna participate again cause I got more ideas, but in this one, i'm running out of ideas, so I need suggestions or someone to help me.

3) Christmas, as it's also slowing me down. I've been watching christmas specials, going shopping for gifts, and wrapping my presents. It's a common reason why nobody can do something.

I've got door 3 finished, so sometime, I will post screenshots. I'm seeking help to do some of the doors, is there anyone out there who would like to help?

I've got Door 1 (B8), where it involves Yoshi trying to find the doors or items to progress, and they are hidden somewhere.

I'm doing Door 2, 3, and 5, and I have no inspiration for Door 4 (D3), so you can go with any theme as long as it's part of the castle.

You don't have to really do the gimmick of door 1 if you don't want.

Now, are there any people who want to help? Also, Merry Christmas.

Absolutely. Though you should finish Platforming Can be Troublesome first, it's almost done and you should get it over with.

I'm planning to use some underused enemies in this collaboration hack like paper ghosts, hedgehog etc and try to make hard challenges with them alongside with interesting puzzles with these enemies as well as platforms. What do you think?
Sorry guys, my hack and VLDC have been slowing me down. That, and i'm fresh out of ideas for SMWCI, though SNN did give me an idea of how I could use those L3 logs in a room, so I took that suggestion.

Once I finish that room and a regular section after the doors, i'll post an IPS. Hopefully then, I can get some help for the last 2 rooms.

Sorry, Y for Yoshi, but you always have to be reminded by SNN to post progress. SNN doesn't rely on you, sadly. Neither do I. I'm kicking you off the level.

That's a bit rude. I said I was skeptical since he's tough to get updates from, but if he's willing to do it, give him the chance. He's proven he's a very good designer - once he finishes his own level (2-8), I imagine he'll have time to work on this.

As SNN requested, I have some progress to show to the public what's inside door 3. Due to some bad luck with losing my progress for VLDC8, I have dropped that level and will start working on this more.

Well, here it is: A room filled with every morph type Yoshi can have!

Yeah yeah, I know about the arrows. I could have sworn I got their position and coordinated correct. Also, the helicopter section is incomplete, and I am not quite sure what to do there. Any ideas?

Other than that, Door 3 is for the most part done. Opinions?

In reply to the Mass PM's, yes, I am still working on this level. But the problem is that I haven't made any progress ever since the VLDC8, and I am actually kind of uninspired as of now and could use a little inspiration or so to get the ol' noggin going.

If I can somehow find a way to finish the helicopter section of Door 3, that room will be complete. See the post above for screenshots of Door 3.

EDIT: As per request to SNN, I have provided an IPS patch for him to test the level out so he can probably give me some inspiration for the level.

Notes:

-Sometimes a certain door will take you to an empty sublevel. That was because I inserted some ASM a long time ago but I don't know if I can remove it, since Desembler crashes ROM's, so I hear.
-As of now, only door 3 is pretty much complete as of now. However, if you don't see a blue room, reset, the ASM took over.

It's kind of broken and incomplete, but it's all just part of the playtesting.

This is basically just a reminder to SNN, as I had to edit my post because of the 24-hour-double-post rule. I hope you can finish playtesting it soon so I can finish this level ASAP...

Alright, so SNN playtested my level before I went on vacation. I acknowledged what he said from our IRC conversation, which starts here.

Now that I've got some inspiration and such, I shall get started on finishing this as soon as I can. Hopefully I can create an ending to this story. In the meantime, can someone else possibly playtest the level for any complaints they have?
