Admittedly, I had not payed much attention to this film until I heard about the cancellation of its release due to hacking threats. How do you feel about Sony's decision to do this? I personally find it to be ridiculous and harmful to Sony.

--------------------

Considering how hard Sony got hacked (some of the notables include a future James Bond script, plans for a Mario movie, and thousands of social security numbers causing ex-Sony employees to sue) I can understand why they caved. Not to mention that they previously offered theater chains to not show the movie and only caved when big theater chain AMC refused to show it. Still kind of sad to see major corporations cave to vague a terrorist threat, though.
They didn't cancel the movie, they released it in theaters (few of them still wanted to accept it), and it went to buying sources such as Google Play Movies, and YouTube. Some others, went into torrents and it was a hit, with over 750K downloads. Many people like it, while some hated it.

Hacking-wise, the hack was not a scam. Said that the sources originated in a 5-star hotel in Thailand. I am assuming the group "Guardians of Peace" (GOP) hacked Sony Pictures there. Many contact details of Sony memebers was relased, and some DVDScreeners as well. Screeners such as Annie (wasn't even released at the time), and a popular torrent download, Fury. I find the hack to be beneficial, torrenting-wise.

It was surprising that Sony released it still as planned. Reason why they were hesitant, was because they were fearing terrorist attacks. Seriously? Come on, it's a comedy. Freedom of speech still applies in the US.
