I wasn't entirely sure if i wanted to enter this year. I didn't the last two and even now I couldn't come up with anything worth going through with. But I looked back at my entry I did whatever years ago (i think it was 2012), and I remembered that I actually made two levels in my entry and used the extra one as a intro level. It was a blue colored forest level mixed with the cloud tileset. I was thinking about the idea of re-using those tilesets and create a new level based around the same gimmicks as that level.


I feel that the first thing that should be done in this level is to present how things work. There are tree tops, and it will transition frequently between being on normal ground and walking among nothing but tree tops. Layer priority is enabled for all of it and there will be enemies walking among the tree tops that you may not see at first.

Messing with the koopa colors to match the palette style of the level...

I'm set on the red and blue, a bit iffy on Green, but I'm not so interested in the yellow. I'm working on this a bit for now.

UPDATE:

Opinions? I get the green koopa to be more green instead of that turquoise color it was originally, and got a yellow color i was more fine with for the koopa's skin.
I have mixed feelings about the colored koopas. They almost look like a tinted grayscale image. Also make sure that the leaves don't obscure too much of the level or it may be too frustrating. Other than that, there isn't a lot of stuff to comment on yet.

They are, its to match the palette of the level, they're just slightly tinted anyways.

If you really think i even give a crap about skill...
This level would probably be really neat if you had holes in the treetop so you could actually see where you or anything else is.

Anyway, it looks cool and the palettes are decent (but the yellow berry looks a little bit unpleasant) but being able to see yourself would be nice from time to time.
I feel a video (or one of those animated gifs that seem to be all the rage these days) would do your gimmick more justice than just screenshots alone. I can see what you're going for, but I'd really like it if I could see more.

No worries, i felt the same thing and recorded it last night (had to re-download snes9x and some other shit because SA-1). I'll have it up later today.

Interesting level, but I find that treetop behavior a bit confusing. That may ne just me, though. Overall it looks pretty good.
NEW VIDEO

I'm really starting to get into the mood and i'm really liking how this level is turning out. The pipe above is intended for a somewhat of a bonus room, but for now it only goes to the secondary exit that shoots the player from around the beginning of the grey platforms to the mid point.

I will change out the grey platform section btw.

Removed the grey platform section for the most part.
