Original Graphics, Palettes and HDMA Showoff Thread

This is my first time drawing up a tileset after ~5 years.
I took out the BG as I'm still trying to figure out what I can do to fix certain parts. I'm a bit rusty so any critique is welcome!

It looks really nice although I think you should add extra things into the dirt to keep it interesting! #smw{:TUP:}
I agree @above post. And yeah, it does look great - really love the style here. Great work!

btw the grass reminds me of SMW's forest tileset for some reason lol
@PercentN: Really neat, I don't think I've seen custom graphics quite like those before. Though maybe you could consider creating some more trunk tiles to allow for taller trees?

Must be the thick grass ledges.

This is my tileset for a snow level

The ground lacks some texture, but other than that, it looks great.

Nice! It would fit easily in a road-that's-out-of-town kind of level.

I've been trying LM's new layer 3 BG editor and I managed to make this:

It's supposed to be used for a water themed castle/dungeon/fortress, and while I think it's somewhat cliched, it does it's job well.
Cliched or not, that looks pretty darn sharp Moltz.

For the past week or so, I've been retrying an old project of mine from a few years back and started to try and work on it again. The project was to make player sprites for a Goombella character, and I've made a bit of progress:

I created the initial design for the sprite three years ago, so it unfortunately doesn't look the best. And the palette's a bit meh as of yet, but for now I think it'll do. Part of my main issue is that as far as I know, I'm limited to only two frames for walking and running animations, so I'm a bit limited with how it'll look. Unless I'm wrong about that?

Edit: Figured I should also include the palette.
@Moltz:
I think that BG looks very good in your level. Good job!

@Veck:
I like how this is going. The palette can be optimized a bit, but your color choices are quite good in general.
In almost all the frames Gombella seems a bit sad, mostly because of her eyelashes and mouth, but maybe that is your intention.

I loved your Mickey Mouse's castle.
Could you show the castle foreground(the FG3/BG2/BG3 windows)?
I honestly wouldn't want to play as a character that appears to be sad for most of the game; a neutral expression would be far more pleasing to the eyes.
Nice to see you back, Dakress/Moltz. Your graphics are amazing as usual.

I really like how colorful your palette is, nice work.
By the way, is that for the ExGFX contest by any chance?

Thanks, yes it is for the contest. I figure space has plenty of darkness, eh. I'll likely be doing a foreground set to go with, but I'm torn between space station and space ruins (ala Facing Worlds).

I was doing a space tileset too. Oh well, I'll find something else.

I made an asteroid layer 3 for the space bg posted earlier. Unfortunately, this interferes with the status bar palette, so I couldn't submit it to the contest with the bg, but I can use it for my hack so it's all good.

Looks awesome as expected from you. You're really good with textures.

That background looks really nice.

Layer 3 transparency is a mystery for me. Sometimes it shows layer 1, sometimes it doesn't.

you probably have both on the mainscreen, in which case layer 1 will not show up below. you will have to move layer 1 to the subscreen if you want the proper effect
