Mighty Luigi Force "The Hack" by EvilGuy0613

NAME: Mighty Luigi Force "The Hack"
AUTHOR: EvilGuy0613
DESCRIPTION:
This hack first started off as a winter contest entry for the 12 Days of Christmas Level Design contest in 2013 and after the contest was over I decided to extend the hack. This hack is based on a game called Mighty Switch Force in terms of game play. It's centered around on/off switch blocks but there's a twist. You trigger the switch blocks yourself with the L & R buttons instead of running around looking for switches. This hack might be somewhat different in terms of what you're used to so I recommend not only giving it a try but reading the read me file for tips.

What's New?

-The hack now has 15 new levels added to it

-Some of the soundtrack has been changed around

-The hack has more of a plot though not too much

-An extra world has been added

-There are now bosses in each world.

Join Luigi on this puzzly adventure today!

Updated 1/20/15 "Fixed the error with the ShyGuy Shuttle level. The level should now be accessible."

This was actually a fairly excellent little hack in most aspects. The manual ON/OFF switching made for an interesting addition to the normal gameplay, and the levels were well designed around it. However, there's one major thing that makes me have to reject the hack, and that is (surprise!) music issues. (At least, that's what I'm assuming the problem is.) There were several spots in the hack where after the screen faded to black, it just stayed so forever, forcing a reset. The first was after beating the 100-star bonus game. The bonus game was always completely silent other than sound effects, which is what leads me to believe the problem is with the music, but it only actually froze once out of the several times I finished. The second one was after the Game Over screen, where it froze two out of the three times I saw it (both of those times were in the second room of Dragon's Passage, but I'm not sure if that is relevant). And the third one was after completing the boss rush, where when grabbing the goal sphere the music stopped and then the game froze before it could return me to the overworld.

Other than that, there were also a few much more minor things I'd like to bring up.

- I'm not sure why you have one button to switch to each switch state rather than just have both of them flip the switch regardless of status, unless it's to intentionally complicate the controls. After all, there is never a reason to switch to the state you're already in.
- The animations of every single one of your 32x32 on/off blocks was off synch. Extremely easy to fix, and it would make the transition look so much better: make sure all animation slots for a single block have a difference that is a multiple of 8. (i.e. 0, 8, 10, 18; 1, 9, 11, 19; 2, A, 12, 1A; and so on)
- I'd recommend picking another font for your message boxes. In the current one, all letters just look like big blocks at a glance.
- I can't help but think that either using a level ender that doesn't make Luigi walk or teleport him to a level with a goal like the other bosses would work better for the double Birdo boss battle, so Luigi doesn't happily walk off into the spike pit after beating it.
- Speaking of bosses, I feel like their order is off compared to their difficulty. Fryguy is completely trivial beyond the first two hits since you can just hide in the throw block alcoves, and I'd say Mouser is the hardest of the three due to him actually moving around the room at a somewhat decent speed.
- I somehow managed to get Fryguy stuck in a wall in the boss rush once, causing him to fly up offscreen where I couldn't hit him. Not sure if this is replicatable enough to worry about.

So yeah. Please fix the freezing issues, and I'll have no problems accepting this.
