You can! At least if it is like in all other previous 24hs, where it doesn't affect your scoring at all.

What if you use LevelASM to warp to another level say after collecting a certain amount of collectable items, or by collecting a certain powerup? Would this new level have to follow the same rules, or can it be a new level all together (I don't plan to do much, though:
Just a secret exit room
)? Or would this not be aloud at all?

You can warp to your other sublevel (eg if you use Cookie Mountain, you can warp from level 10 to C1), but not to any outside that. And you can't edit that at all either.

Man, this is a really neat challenge. At first I wasn't quite sure what to do with it, but now my entry is coming along nicely.

As Mario and the goal point count as sprites, can we move these to a different place? Example: moving Mario to the end of the level and the goal to the very beginning or only one of these (but with the goal point it would be meh, as we can't move objects and the post will float on pure air).

I'm not S.N.N, so I can't really say yes or no to this, but I'd imagine that even if you can, the goal point is part-object, part-sprite, so it'd certainly look a bit weird to be compliant with the rules. You could use a custom sprite for that, but the actual goal point tiles will still be well near the beginning of the level... unless you're cool with sawing part of the level off.

Anyway, I messed around with this, but I couldn't get a feel for this contest. I guess I'm too much of a beginner with my level design, but no less, good luck to all the entrants! I'll be content to sit this one out, myself.

Yeah, I know. There are custom sprites acting like a goal point, but the original game has got the "?" sphere. I think it'd be a good enough alternative, but thanks for the idea.
Can you tweak the properties of the original sprites in the game.

Oh, jolly, another level design contest with ridiculously narrow constraints to the point of not being fun. It's not as if that's been the reason I haven't entered any 24-hour level design contests since the first back in 2011 or anything... (Well, okay, I almost entered the fourth one, but I think I ended up being too busy that day.)

Well..... I think that's the point, aside from the "not being fun" part. Without extremely specific specifications, people can easily make a level in a lot longer than 24 hours by starting early and submitting it. You can't know for sure that people actually made them in the time constraints without requirements such as that.

As much as I want to give it a shot, I'm too busy with other projects at the moment to enter.

Pretty sure you can, seeing as how custom sprites are allowed.
Another question just to make it clear: is using Map16 for the Background aloud? It doesn't effect the level at all, although it's technically using Map16, which seems to be a no-no in the contest.

Are you an ASM coder and want to trade "resources"? Private Message me for details.
(I also offer SMW Custom Songs in exchange for ASM! I don't do ports though unless it's to remix.)

Maybe a stupid question: Is tileset combination allowed?

It's allowed but kind of pointless since you aren't allowed to place any objects.
Two last questions (I guess):

1. Are we allowed to edit only the main level or can we also change the sprites in the sublevels?

2. Are we allowed to move the secondary entrances to another pipes in the levels?

Not really. If he wants the level to look different then he can just bypass the graphics and fill in any leftover missing graphics that still need to be used.
Since I totally botched the level numbers for VoB3, you can use either Valley of Bowser 3 or Valley of Bowser 4 with no penalty. Sorry about that, I totally rushed the level numbers.

Yes, but since you can't add or change blocks, you'll need to use sprite or patch-based methods of teleportation. On top of that, you can only use the levels associated with the original level, so it's not like you can warp to another level entirely...

As long as you don't change their behavior or move them around, the palette is fair game.

Oh, jolly, another whining and complaining post by imamelia about a site contest despite him never bringing forward constructive suggestions or alternative ideas. Do the board a favor, take MercuryPenny's advice, and give it a rest. I've let this go for so many years but this is seriously fucking annoying now.

Yes, or any other hosting service is fine (though My Files is internal and the preferred choice).

Yes, but as per my first point, you can only use the levels/sublevels associated with the ones posted. You can't warp to a new level unrelated to the contest.

And yes, you can use Map16 for the background as long as it doesn't interact with the level .. though honestly, aesthetics are not going to be highly ranked in this at all. As I said in the rules thread, creativity and fun are the two biggest factors.

1. You can do both the main level and sublevel (and since the pipes will be exit-enabled and you can't remove them, you don't have much of a choice but to use the sublevels too).
2. Are those pipes exit-enabled? You can't change a pipe from non-exit-enabled to exit-enabled because that would involve changing an object in the level.

Not really. If he wants the level to look different then he can just bypass the graphics and fill in any leftover missing graphics that still need to be used.

I have no idea what you mean by that, but basically the only thing he can do is replace something in the level, that is a long shape that acts like 25 and has the exact tile setup that is needed for it to be changed to a bush, into a bush. You can't just replace decoration with different decoration, you have to do everything by editing GFX files. Map16 is completely off-limits.
Underway is right. There's really no benefit to tileset mixing in this particular challenge, and you'll quickly find that doing so is next to impossible since you can't add or remove any objects.
Well, I made something. Though I am curious if usage of the existing assets will count for anything. As in, I tried to make sure all of the coins were reachable, but would it count against us if some coins were unreachable without dying?

My Let's Play channel (Current LP: Final Fantasy VI, MegaMari)
-Can I rebuild the entire level structure with my own graphics and objects? Edit: meaning I keep the same level structure with different Map16 and graphics, everything intereacting the same.

-If yes, can I only adhere to the intractable objects such as coins, platforms, solid stuff, etc or does it include walk-throught tiles e.g. the mushroom stem in 119 has to be the same width regardless.

-IF I don't need to respect the original placement of walkthrough tiles, can I place my own for decoration or sprite usage?

I also have another question about tiles but I don't want to ruin the for other designers if it is met with rejection, as the current rules are fine as is for the levels listed.

--------------------
I wonder what a HFD opcode would do in ASM...
GeminiRage: Depends on how the rest of the level fares. Obviously in some cases (the Vanilla Dome level), you'll be removing platforms and stuff, so unless you decide to re-add sprites there, they'll be unreachable. If the rest of the level is super creative, I would let a situation or two like that slide.

TLMB:

1. No, that literally goes against the entire point of the contest (not changing/adding/removing any of the original objects or their behavior). You can edit the graphics in YY-CHR to make them different if you want, but the object set-up itself must remain intact.
2. No.
3. No.

Ruberjig: Yes, those have nothing to do with objects.
i deleted my post sorry

e: thanks though :)
