MSU1 version of SMWCP2

While I know that the regular music version of smwcp2 will be released. I think since now that there is a MSU1 patch that there be a version with the higher quality music also released because I know that many of the songs for smwcp2 have been made into high quality mp3s.

What is everyones opinions on this?

One thing to consider is that Jimmy hasn't arranged all the music into an MP3 quality format yet, and he has since seemingly disappeared.
Furthermore, MSU1 doesn't even exist. It's a purely fictional chip, which, while supported in emulation and I believe certain SD flash carts, it wouldn't work in all honesty on real hardware, and as such, would kind of defeat the 'hardware compatible' aspects of this hack.

The point I'm making is that one would have to arrange the music themselves if we wanted to do this and it would likely end up a modular feature.

I'm not going to pretend to be Lui37 here and tell you whether this gets the green light or not, but I will say that if you want an MSU1 version bad enough, it'd be best to steal the baseROM from Lui after everything's ready for release, arrange the music yourself, deal with the freespace limitations in place and install the patch yourself, and release your own version.

Anything like this that may further hold up the project will be stuff that people will have to do on their own time. The current staff behind SMWCP2 has been trying for years to just get this thing released.

Now, all that being said, I do have a major question that I feel can fit in the space of this thread. Would I have clearance to snag some of the music from the Base ROM and use it for myself? I ask because many of the songs haven't been uploaded to the music section, and I'm not sure where everyone stands on the matter. If I do use it, I'll be sure to attribute the work to its creator, of course.

No.

That's my opinion on this.

I agree completely.

I recall there being a sticky that said "please at least wait until release before using resources from SMWCP2", but I don't think it's there anymore so I don't know but probably not.

Ahh, I see. No Electrospire for me, then, ahah. I'll just have to go with whatever cheap ripoff I can compose. It makes sense, though, of course. It'd make the end product feel less unique and interesting at release.

Those two statements don't really mesh.

That said, I don't see much of an advantage to be gained from that, and I want to make a real cart of this, which would be pretty hard to do with an msu-1, since I don't really know how to implement it.
Yeah, I said a lot of stupid stuff about MSU1 in that post, I'll concede. It DOES exist, thanks to Byuu being cool and it 'kind of' works on real hardware.

I say 'kind of' because it defeats the purpose to an extent of having it be a SNES game in the first place. I mean, 4Gigs of storage on a SNES cart? Why don't we hook a core i7 into it next! Sky's the limit when you don't give a shit!

I've said this before and I'll say it again; what's admirable about SMW hacking and homebrew in general, in my eyes, really boils down to doing beautiful, amazing things with incredibly limited resources. Using what's old to create something new, fantastic and beautiful.

But now we're getting into a different subject, and I'll shut up before much more auteur-ish lingo and uneducated assumptions fly out my gullet.

I still think the msu1 music implementation would be absolutely outstanding, even if others don't agree.

As far as enhancement chips go, one of the cool things about cartridge based systems is that you can add enhancements to the games and system by the means of extra chips.

If someone is against adding a intel core i7 processor to a cart then they should also be against adding the SA1 chip as well. The SA1 chip was an enhancement chip which aimed at making the whole game play experience better.

Now we have access to the MSU1 chip and it does work on real hardware. Why not use it? Many of the smwcp2 arrangements by jimmy is absolutely beautiful. I would love to hear those songs on the SNES.

And I'm suggesting to make two versions of smwcp2. One with the regular snes music and another with the msu1 music. So I don't see why there should be any problems with such a request.

See my first post for that; If you want a version of SMWCP2 with MSU1, you're going to have to do it yourself - Including arranging your own renditions of SMWCP2's OST, since Jimmy ostensibly disappeared about a year ago.

You can't just will something and expect everyone to jump on it for you, especially if it's a lot of work like this would be. If you care enough about the idea of MSU1 SMWCP2, the best thing to do is to jump to it yourself.

The problem is that it's not going to happen. We've got shit to do.
I don't think so. After the game is released, maybe someone can make a MSU-1 version if the final ROM doesn't get locked yet. Although that someone would need to find a place to inject a giant code in a ROM that is so full of inserted things and custom ASM that there would be little or no freespace. An ExLoROM version maybe, but that would break the whole ROM (like Romi's Addmusic) and after somehow injecting the custom code, there's a chance that the game will become full of bugs, and the uploader will have to include a warning that says "MUSIC ONLY WORKS ON HIGAN OR FLASHCART". Surry for bumping, but I felt I had something important to say.
