I was looking at this thread just yesterday. Happy see that you guys are progressing and keeping the thread updated!

I can only imagine how much effort you guys put in it. The rex seems to have a lot of frames, drawing & coding it's graphics should've been hell, but the end result is definitely worth. Looking smooth!

The previous updates are cool too. The Goomba slave is just so cute I feel like murdering you guys for doing he bad.
The boss is looking way too good to belong in a game with a lot of graphics right out of the original Super Mario World. It's kinda jarring, but no less impressive.

Neat. I've wanted to use Mode 2 effectively for a while, but I've never been able to find a good way to handle it.
Brilliant work on that boss. All the frames of animation are worth and are a little crazy at the same time.

( seriously you made it track the sceptre for a small detail o.o )

But yeah it'll be awesome to see what other enemies and bosses you'll work on together.
The effort put into the small details really needs to be praised.

I have high hopes for this hack and can't wait to see more of it. :O
Whadup all yall? It's been a while since we last posted anything here, but such is life with important things like finals and infinity war coming about. We've been debating a lot of potential changes for the hack recenty and that's taken some time too, though the game will be all the better for it in the end.

Here's a little something I've been working on! I've added a simple but super awesome function to the goomba (may or may not be inspired by odyssey). Check this shit out!



Ladies and gentlesirs, you are indeed seeing a goomba carry another sprite on top of itself. But wait! There's more!




You can put even more goombas on the stack, and if the top one has a tray you can join the pile!

In fact, you can GO CRAZY WITH IT!




(low key these are the goombas that will pierce the heavens)


BUT WHAT IS THIS? IS THERE MORE!? Yes, my friend, there is. If you set the extra bit on the sprite, it can serve you upgrades.





I'm stupidly happy with how this silly little sprite turned out. It's super easy to use, too, just place them all totem-like in Lunar Magic and there you go. Might release this one on C3 (hint hint).

Also, some of you may have noticed the aggro rex behaving differently. On the advice of lolyoshi, I made the following changes to it:
* It now accelerates instead of turning around instantly
* It has 1 second of invulnerability upon being hit
* It is stunned for .5 seconds upon taking damage
* Its chasing AI is slightly smarter so it can actually follow you down ledges (though that's unrelated to the other changes made to it)

I think that's it for now. I'll no doubt say this again, but keep your eyes on us this C3, you won't be disappointed. See ya later!

This hack literally has no problems. You have a TON of original characters, and leeway looks sick. All of the graphics look AMAZING so far. And the custom sprites and bosses are CRAZY. The 3D BG's are just OUT OF THIS WORLD. Keep it up, because I've never seen a hack like this in my life, that is so flawless.

BUT on thing I don't like is the name of the antagonist. "The Dark Lord" is so overused it's bad. Mabee you should think about changing that to something more creative. And another thing is "Extra Mario World" is pretty bland to. Because I'm pretty tired of seeing every hack called something with "Mario World" at the end of it's name.

But overall the hack is insane! Keep it up!

Hey everyone! No, you're not reading the title wrong, we're doing Realm 4 before 3. We have a kind of abstract concept for Realm 3 but haven't been able to agree on the specifics yet so we're doing 4 first. Hopefully we'll get to showing some new levels soon, but for now, here's one of our new enemies:



This is a Ninji Thief, or a "Thif" for short. It behaves like a normal ninji until you get close, at which points it transforms into its evil mode and tries to steal your coins!

If you're fast enough, you can get your money back, however!



You'll see a lot of these guys in the Realm 4 levels we're working on. And since money is really important in our hack, and these guys steal 100 coins a piece, you're gonna really hate them. You're welcome.


We're also reworking some backgrounds and experimenting with BG3 foregrounds. Check this out!



If you look closely near the end, you'll see that the clouds on layer 2 actually have parallax scrolling.

What a bizarre enemy. The fact it runs on its "ears" is pretty odd.

Odd but amazing. It's a creative take on an existing enemy.

The background work looks really nice with how all the different layers are scrolling.
Solid work as always and looking forward to seeing where this goes next. :)
If you like weird enemies, you'll like this:



It's called the Komposite Koopa! Obviously it was inspired by the classic Skeleton-Snake-Dragon-Head-From-The-Wall from Castlevania.



Here it spits 3 fireballs instead of 1 because the game was on the highest difficulty level.
This enemy may look intimidating, but once you get over all the body horror happening, it's not that hard to defeat. You have to hit it on the head, otherwise you'll just bounce off its body.

We plan on having another version of this sprite too, so look forward to that!

I quite enjoy enemies like this. It's crazy looking and kind of intimidating at first, but it really doesn't seem too domineering a threat by itself - which of course lends itself well to a series of increasingly difficult setups when mixed with other hazards. I look forward to seeing how this critter will be utilized in a level proper.

(I also look forward to a Dry Bones version to bring the Castlevania homage full circle, hint hint.)

Now find a way to anchor one of these bad boys to your sprite-carrying goombas.
Have you guys ever thought of starting a gofundme for something like this? I know a kickstarter would be a bad idea, but I feel like people would pour in donations to see this get completed.
