Im working with this hack right now. It's based on Mega Man, but it is a mario game. So i made SMB2 in Mega Man style. There will be 8 levels and the final stages after that. And mabye more. But more about that later! Just take a look at what i made so far!

This looks really neat. I've actually been toying with an idea similar to this. I'm guessing there's more bosses other than the three you first meet?
