After months of work on my full-length Kaizo project, Banzai Mario World is officially complete! Banzai Mario World is a 40-exit, easy difficulty Kaizo hack with a lot of ASM and custom stuff (music, sprites, etc.).

DOWNLOAD HERE

The hack includes:

-Tons of levels and secret stuff, for a total of 40 exits! That makes it one of the longest Kaizo hacks ever made.

-An easy, beginner friendly difficulty level that should be able to introduce players to Kaizo. No more frusturation over not being able to beat something!

-There's a unique ASM gimmick in virtually every level!

-Six themed worlds and one special unlockable level, making it a truly full-length Kaizo hack.

-Ninety-nine lives given in the beginning of the game, so no more game overs (hopefully)!

-A hidden moon in every single level for the completionists out there.

-A fully playable credits level (credit is also included in a text document).

This hack should be completely different from most Kaizo hacks out there for a number of reasons. if you try the hack out yourself, you will see why!

But words aren't nearly as useful as pictures, so here are some screenshots from the hack. I included a quick description so you can actually know what's going on in some of these screenshots.

The title screen and story. The hack revolves around the use of ASM gimmicks, and the story helps explain that. The Mushroom Company that is referenced throughout the hack is a high-tech Mario-software company that "upgrades" Mario's abilities to allow him to do crazy things like jump twice or warp from the bottom of the screen to the top. Mario becomes increasingly suspicious of them, however, and suspects that Bowser is in charge...

Two of the seven maps! I replaced stuff on the border with munchers (yes, those are munchers!) since it is Kaizo after all.

These two levels revolve around coin collecting, but with a Kaizo twist. This is an example of the many ASM gimmicks found in each level. Almost every gimmick is unique to its level, however, and only a few are used twice (but in different ways).

The second level of the hack. If Mario falls down the bottom of the stage, he reappears at the top! No, this does not mean that this level is easy...

Wallkicks work! Of course, walljumps are possible without custom blocks, but this is an easy-Kaizo hack, not a pit hack.

I kept the underwater levels short and few, because they can be especially frustrating in a Kaizo hack. This level should be unique enough though. The gimmick is that you have to race a Blurp fish to the finish line at the end of the level, and if you lose, Mario dies. It seems like the fish has an advantage though..

There are also four switch palaces in this hack as well, and yes, they are also Kaizo difficulty. Pressing all four switch palaces will unlock the special world at the end of the hack!

This level revolves around the "jump twice" ASM gimmick. Also, it's the first level with Yoshi, whom you immediately sacrifice right after. Sorry.

In this level, Mario is invisible. The level provides plenty of thwomps, boos, and coin trails to help you figure out where Mario is. A message box in the level also explains that you can tap left and right rapidly to make skid marks appear to show where Mario is.

So I won't be explaining any more screenshots. You'll have to play the hack yourself to see what's going on in these!

With so much extra stuff, there obviously has to be a credits level. And there is. It's different from most credits in that it's a completely playable level, where the people's names are collectible like coins. This, and a couple other things, are the rewards for getting all 40 exits.

There is also a text file with the credits included in the download if you don't like fun...

SPECIAL THANKS

Everyone who provided feedback and helped me with this hack's completion over at the thread. Thanks!

Klono-Pin, for making a TAS of the demo, and beta testing for TAS breaks.

And especially Thomas, for helping me with all of my ASM issues and beta testing the entire hack, finding a ton of glitches and stupid mistakes on my part. Without his help, this hack would be much more glitchy and much less fun.

That's it! Thanks for taking the time to check out my C3 thread and possible trying this hack out. If Kaizo hacks aren't your thing, I hope this hack changes your mind and introduces you to the usually overlooked SMW genre of Kaizo.

Lastly, if you have any questions about how to beat a level or find a moon, just post them here or in this thread. Feedback is welcome!

EDIT: Here is a guide for the hack!
Great stuff! I will definitely give this a try sometime soon! I had been looking forward to this hack's full release!

I like hacks that are supposedly Kaizo but look beatable without tools. I'll be sure to give this one a go without tools. q:
Even though Kaizo isn't really my jam I can still admire those palettes. Nice work on those.

Thanks!!

My goal was for this hack to be a savestate-less Kaizo for people who are good at Kaizo, and I think that most of it is... there are some levels in the last two worlds that will be pretty challenging without tools, but definitely possible. Good luck!

Thanks! That's nice coming from someone who is known for making good palettes.
I played the first few levels. Great job with the difficulty; even though I am really bad at playing, I was somehow able to pass like 3-4 levels without savestates. I'll probably continue tomorrow and give you feedback.
Oh and, great palettes. Nice work.
Will play this one ASAP. Great! Your palettes are very eye pleasing

Thanks! I'm really glad that you were able to play is savestate-less, that was what I was hoping for. There are some levels later on that will be harder to do without savestates.

Thanks!
Great big piece of a hack. I mean, for a hack that relies on gimmicks around custom blocks and sprites - as well as elements from the original game - they didn't feel unfair at all, which makes the whole experience fun for both parties (the tutorial you created in the respective forum came in handy and I'm thinking there's a slight possibility many people will build their own Kaizo hack).

Some of these moons weren't that hard to collect, but I suppose that's just me. Also, I managed to do that one glitch where you can climb through the level by touching the sides of the screen while on the rope:

It's sad to see I could skip the majority of this section, although despite that, I enjoyed this specific stage. Good job other than that!

I don't usually play kaizo hacks myself, but this one is very creative and actually fun! I'm really enjoying all the gimmicks, every level is unique so far. The graphics look very nice, too - I'm glad kaizo hacks are becoming nicer and nicer to look at. Great job!

Thanks for pointing this out, I can't believe that neither me nor Thomas caught that. Thankfully it's an autoscroll, so not too much can be skipped. :)

Yeah Sure!

1st room

In the first room, grab the p-switch and press it, and then press the turn block. Move to the right quickly and let the shell despawn. If you return the shell respawns and you can grab it to kill the lotus.

2nd room

In the second room, place the p-switch that is behind a tree on top of the pipe and use Yoshi to lick the p-switch. There's a feature in SMW where items that are on Yoshi's tongue can still be used to hit blocks. Use the p-switch to hit the blocks and then go through the pipe with Yoshi.

3rd room

In the third room, a fish will hit Yoshi and cause him to run. Make sure you are facing left when you get hit. Press the p-switch; it will cause Yoshi to run along the bottom of the stage where you can get him back later (in the area with the downward arrow).

Last room

Last room is pretty easy; use a trick where throwing a throwblock up will prevent it from breaking.

Puzzling Forest is the only puzzle level in the hack, and it's the only level that isn't required to beat the game (although you need to beat it if you want to get all 40 exits).
Holy crap! A Kaizo hack that's actually fun! So far, I'm really enjoying it, and the puzzles are pretty neat, although I'm terrible at these kind of games. Great job!

Hello, GbreezeSunset, I just signed up to show that I appreciate and am fascinated by this hack and the amazing creativity involved in creating something like this.

These hacks are art.
I can't seem to beat Mario on Ice, I can't cross a pit because Yoshi isn't big and I've gone through this second section twice now and, unless there's some way to eat spikes I can't find, there are only 4 enemies between when Yoshi shows up and the uncrossable pit.

e: Finally made it, guess it's just jump and hope you get lucky.
Not very far yet, but from what I have played (currently at the start of World 2) this hack is super fun - it has some really neat gimmicks, well-made levels and interesting mini-puzzles. Reminds me a little bit of Super Mario World Remix with the difficulty being between Hard and Kaizo, even if it has a slightly less open style (without feeling too cluttered, though).

Great job! I'll post a full review when I'm done.

Thanks! I definitely made this hack for people who don't necessarily play the more difficulty Kaizo hacks, since this one is pretty easy in comparison.

I made sure there were five enemies Yoshi needs to eat, unless you're referring to the jump with the spike falling after the red shell-less koopa? I definitely made that jump a bit too long... but it's still possible. I think it's easier if you throw baby Yoshi up and spinjump with him. Just in case, the five enemies you have to eat are (in order)
football, piranha, rock, red koopa, and another rock.

Thanks! I was inspired a bit by SMW Remix (the difficulty level, not the design), but I think I was mostly inspired by Panga's savestateless hack and the concept behind it, which unfortunately never made it past three levels.
Do you think it's possible to give a full guide on all the levels?

But right now I'm stuck on Challenge, could you help?
You can slide into the grinders.
Oh my Goodness, I have NOT seen this.
