Amiibo

Welp! I think I'm going to die from cuteness!

Anyone else really enjoying this game so far? I just love it! It's probably the first Yoshi game that can be considered a true sequel to Yoshi's Island.
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
I'm jealous of you Europeans for getting the game 4 months before we do in America. (You guys got Bravely Default before us too...but I guess America has gotten even more games before Europe did, so whatever.) I really want to play this, considering it looks like it will actually be good, unlike every other Yoshi game I've played except the original Yoshi's Island. The soundtrack is pretty forgettable so far (and dear lord, why did they recycle that one track from Yoshi's New Island?!), but it's at least better than the last couple, and the graphics look very nice indeed. Definitely my most anticipated Wii U exclusive of 2015 (and also the only one).

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 61/95 levels.
As an American, I also have to wait until October for this game. I'm looking forward to it quite a bit. Glad that it looks to be a step in the right direction from Yoshi's New Island. I've watched several level gameplay videos and it looks really fun.
Yeah, I really don't know why they thought they had to delay the game until October for North America since the game is obviously done by now (including an English translation). Probably they wanted to reserve the game as a fall title, but then again... why didn't they do the same thing for Europe? We just recently got Splatoon, so...
Oh well. I'm definitely not going to complain about this as a European getting the game early.

I personally enjoy the soundtrack a whole lot, it's been stuck in my had all day. Of course it's very different from Yoshi's Island, but that's only to better go with the whole cuteness/wool theme, since most of the tracks are really happy and relaxing. That's really what I like most about this game. You just play it for a while and feel relaxed and happy afterwards.

So far I've completed the first world and already had a lot of fun with the game. Every single level so far had a very unique feel to it and it was a lot of fun finding all the secrets in the levels. Also, Bike Yoshi is just as awesome as I had thought. Not only the fact that it is... a... Bike Yoshi, which is already quite awesome, but the sections with him are quite fun and fast-paced. Too bad the transformation sections are always so short and rare.

Also, Amiibo compatibility is quite high in this game. All Amiibo I currently own (that is eight I already have here plus two I'll pick up this week) are in some way compatible with the game. For example: Shulk Yoshi is a thing. Even the new Amiibo, that were just released yesterday (Zero Suit Samus, Palutena etc.) are compatible. My favorite so far is Mega Man-Yoshi, he looks just too herpy-derpy and cool not to pick him. And of course you also unlock various Yoshi patterns throughout the game. Many of these are quite enjoyable, too.

Yeah, I enjoy the game so much that I definitely hope it isn't over too quickly.

It took Europe until November 1997 to get a single Final Fantasy game if you exclude Mystic Quest and the Handheld games which weren't region locked. Exclude handhelds and it was the fourth turn-based RPG EVER released in Europe.

I personally find this game to be very Banjo Kazooie styled. There's WAY too many collectibles in each stage for my liking. Whilst I liked previous games in the series (Yoshi's Island DS, for example), there's too much of a focus on collecting for me.

If people enjoy it, and it does well, then, I'm sure it's a success to Nintendo.

I don't understand why there seems to be so much distress over the delayed release here. North America has normally been the first to receive localizations, while Europe (and especially Australia) have been shortchanged for decades.

If a four month delay (actually less than that) seems bad, just remember that PAL gamers often had to wait more than a year for a new game. Some series, such as Final Fantasy, didn't even make it there until the late nineties.

Final Fantasy VII was the first Final Fantasy here if you exclude Mystic Quest which was rebranded, and it was the fourth overall (The other two were Lufia II and Breath of Fire II). That's right, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest was the first JRPG released in Europe, second was Breath of Fire II, third was Lufia II (Or was it the other way around?) 4th through 8th were Final Fantasy 7-9, Grandia and Pokemon Red/Blue, Paper Mario was 9th and tenth was Pokemon Gold/Silver.

You actually forgot a lot of games in that list. For example: Terranigma and Secret of Mana, which both were really successful in Europe. Terranigma wasn't even released in North America. Sure, these games aren't classic turn-based RPGs, but they're JRPGs nevertheless.

The music track Knitty Knotty Windmill Hill from this game is so calming and was one of the tracks I heard from a short gameplay clip which really hooked me on getting this game. Should be picking this up soon.
Do you think that Yoshi's Woolly World is better than Yoshi's New Island?
Well, it's because of the Final Boss.
Why does everyone moan about this then? Who cares about where it came from anyways? I don't. The US doesn't even know the exact date SMB1 came out over there, so just saying.

Anyway, I'm not getting a Wii U, but here's a post regarding this game from the XP Forums:

SMW2 incorporated some features that made it into the New SMB's, such as being able to look into caves and crevices.

Anyways, have you seen/played the new Yoshi's Wooly World? My first impressions upon viewing some gameplay footages are that it's a subpar clone of SMW2 minus the baby Mario. Baby Mario was what "made" SMW2. YWW feels bland without bM as a result. Also, I see zero innovations in YWW, aside from the ability to fill up windmill blades with wool. Whatever was done inYWW had already been done much much better in SWM2. YWW is one of the few instances where I think the game(s) that came before it aeons ago were much better!
I can just attest how incredible good the game is. I played through the whole game and 100%(xept hearts) with my sister. EACH LEVEL. That's how good it was, even in Multiplayer.

Truly a worthy successor of the first Yoshi Island game. If you dislike the music, SPOILER
The hidden level has 8!!!! unique tracks are AMAZING

Also the amibo compatibility is nice, I only have a Samus Amiibo though :P
Did anyone (living in North America) pick the game up yesterday? I did, but since I'm pet-sitting for somebody (who doesn't have a Wii U), I probably won't be able to play it until tomorrow, maybe even Monday.

Got it yesterday, but was way too tired to play then. Played most of the first world. It's a lot of fun. First level I played with the amiibo player 2. Maybe don't do that, it's really complicated...
Got it on release day too. I bought the standalone game with the blue Yoshi amiibo. I've been playing almost exclusively co-op with my sister, and we're having a total blast.

We always had fun in other co-op games like NSMBW/U and Epic Yarn, but the presence of death penalties meant that we couldn't mess with each other, and it was hard to find the balance between boring and frustrating.

With Wooly World, there's no death penalty unless both players die, and even then, you just go back to the last checkpoint. We died a lot, but it was mainly because one of us would always pick up the other to throw him on "?" clouds, carefully planning the angle so that the other would fall in a pit or another danger afterwards. Or sometimes, just straight up throwing/spitting them in the pit. Or throw a ball of yarn at them when they're jumping over a pit. The possibilities and the fun are endless. Definitely the most fun I've ever had from playing co-op. I think my sister agrees, too.

Otherwise, the game is pretty easy, but it's still insanely fun, and collectables can be quite a challenge to find sometimes. Add the constant threat of your partner being mischievous, and it can get relatively hard, but never frustrating.

The alt Yoshis you can unlock, as well as the amiibo Yoshis, are really great too. I love that kind of things in games. A few of them look weird, but there are so many of them that you never feel ripped off for your efforts, you just laugh at it. My favorites so far are [W1Boss]
Burt the Bashful Yoshi
and WiiU Deluxe Yoshi.

Graphics are awesomely cute. Nothing else to say.

The only things that disappointed me so far are the goals and boss deaths. The goal's music is way too gentle and there's no cute Yoshi dance. Bosses die by simply falling down, which isn't even as satisfying as killing mere Shy Guys. It really falls flat. I'm only nitpicking at this point... I'm still heavily nostalgic towards YI's goal music and over-the-top boss deaths.

It's also not so innovative... It definitely borrows a LOT from YI and Epic Yarn, and while YI might've done things a bit better challenge-wise, the co-op TOTALLY makes up for it. So it kinda surpasses YI in my eyes, and that means a lot from a nostalgia-blinded idiot like me. I bet they won't surpass YI's final boss, though. I can't say if I'd like that or not. On the other hand, if it starts getting downright uncreative later in the game, my opinion might change.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with my purchase. Buy it.
My thoughts so far:

1-1: Pretty standard starting stage. It does a good job of introducing you to a lot of the game's mechanics.

1-2: Decent enough. Though is it just me, or is this stage noticeably harder than 1-2 in the original Yoshi's Island? It's harder in a different way, though (introducing Baron von Zeppelins only 2 levels in, for one thing).

1-3: It...certainly is a level. Honestly, the cave stages in Yoshi games have always been among the least memorable to me, and this one isn't really an exception, but it's not bad either.

1-4: Okay, this one is even more difficult compared to its original counterpart than 1-2 was. Not a bad stage overall, though the boss involved a bit more waiting around than I would like.

1-5: This stage reminds me of 2-1 (Windmill Hill) in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, though the latter is definitely more interesting. This one's only real problem is how slow-paced it is, with how much time you spend knitting the windmill platforms.

1-6: Pretty decently fun level, and it has my favorite music of any so far. (Incidentally, is it possible to turn down the volume level of the sound effects in this game? Yoshi's "hup" and "hnnnnngh" and "br-r-r-ring...pah!" are, like, twice as loud as the music at least.) Also, now I want to make a custom sprite version of those bomb-throwing Shy Guys.

1-7: Unusually linear for a Yoshi level, but it works. And...watermelons are back! I missed those in Yoshi's Island DS and Yoshi's New Island. Also, I have mixed feelings about the transformations in this game. They're reasonably fun, and they're better than what YNI had, but they still seem disjointed from the rest of the level compared to the ones in the original game.

1-8: Another level that's noticeably more difficult than its original counterpart (mainly because of all the swinging yarn balls), though the boss is a joke. It took me maybe 15 seconds to defeat him, and if that's an exaggeration, it's not much of one. Also, let me just say that, as good as this game's soundtrack is (especially compared to the last two Yoshi games), the fortress (and castle) music in this game is not nearly as good as the original.

1-S: For being so short, this stage sure was tedious. I wouldn't say it was the hardest thing out there, especially as secret levels go (I beat it on my second try, and with 100% of the collectibles to boot), but it felt even more pointless than some of the original game's secret levels. I hope at least some of the other secret levels are better, but I wouldn't count on it. The music wasn't memorable either.

I might keep posting a world at a time, or half a world at a time, or something. I'm not sure. Overall, though, it seems to be a pretty solid game, and it certainly beats the pants off both Yoshi's Island DS and Yoshi's New Island in about every way. I'd still like to see a more traditional Yoshi game in the future (babies or no babies [preferably none], but at least not with a gimmick like the whole yarn thing), but this one is still decent enough.

I beat the game yesterday. Overall I found this to be quite a delightful game. The yarn theme was very charming and helped it stand out among the other Yoshi platformers a bit. It was a pretty easy game but finding all the hidden items provides more of a challenge. The levels were quite fun.

I'm working on unlocking the Secret levels now. So far I've unlocked 1-S which I found to be interesting.
