Ideas for a Kirby Hack

Hey guys, I was just wondering since I have ideas for making a Kirby hack. The main goal is to remove all of the Mario stuff including sfx and music etc. I was just asking what powerups should I make them to have their copy ability and incorporating the inhale ability, flying and dashing.

Powerups

Mushroom
Flower
Star = Invincible Candy
Cape Feather
I have no idea if it's an specific Kirby game, but these samples will come in handy.
Maybe the items could be reworked into food [effectively the "health items" of Kirby]:

For example, here are the ones from Kirby: Squeak Squad (Mouse Attack in PAL regions) - here.

If you're wondering, this Kirby Wiki page has images of all the food from different Kirby games.

Yeah that will be a good idea, The mushroom could become the maxim Tomato while the the other items i'm trying to still decide.

I already ripped the samples from Kirby's Dreamland 3.

I would recommend that the Fire Flower becomes the Pep Brew, and the Cape Feather becomes a Cherry.

They're the two most common Kirby food items.

Ok thanks, What would Fire Mario and Cape Mario be?
That's where you're kinda screwed - if the items become food, Kirby wouldn't end up using them to "transform".

Kirby can't become Fire Kirby from a Maxim Tomato - that doesn't follow the rules! And if you're making a Kirby hack, you've got to follow the source material.

So, to that end, I can't really help.

Fire Flower would obviously be the Superspicy Curry.
Do you even Kirby?

Never played Kirby's Dream Land [the re-make in Kirby Super Star as 'Spring Breeze' doesn't count]. So it didn't come to mind.

Well then I could remove the Powerups completly and have them as food health items.
For starts, you would probably want to use one of the many health patches out there. This way you can dedicate some items (in this case, the food) specifically to the purpose of recovering health. I know some of those patches are rather configurable in terms of healing amounts.

For powerups, you COULD probably use some of the Yoshi player patch abilities to allow the player to eat enemies... maybe with some additional ASM, it would be possible to make the eating of certain enemies grant powerups (Eat a hopping flame? Get fireballs. Eat a Super Koopa? Get cape.) It would make more sense than making them collectable items, at least in how more recent Kirby games have been (the only reason Superspicy Curry existed in the first Dream Land was because the concept of ability copying didn't exist at the time).

Yeah I could use the Yoshi Player Patch to have the idle frames which i'm using for Kirby. The flutter jump could be replaced with the fly ability and the ability to spit enemies to be replaced with the star spit. I'm going to also add the slide kick along with the guard ability.
Well, you could either A: Continue here or

my suggestion: Actually make a Kirby hack of a Kirby game :P I mean, http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/1064/

The editor is so weird (not buggy, just weird) though that it would take longer than just converting all mario stuff in SMW into kirby stuff...
Actual Kirby graphics would be nice. For both the levels and overworld. We've got some tilesets from Kirby's Adventure, the Kirby's Dream Land game and Kirby Super Star, so try using them.

And some Kirby sprites too. That Kirby sprite pack would work nicely. As would the Acro and Pix bosses from the sprite's section. And if you can get them, the Meta Knight, Whispy Woods, Kracko and King Dedede bosses from Brutal Mario.

Mix all that with Kirby style enemy replacements and some Kirby esque mechanics via patches, and you'll have a much better Kirby style SMW hack than most.

As for Mario's Nightmare Quest? Well, it's currently on Fusion Gameworks, ROM Hacking.net or the GCN at the moment.

Yeah that will be nice to add in to my hack except that I am making the Kirby sprites by myself.

Definitely consider the graphics then. There are plenty of them, and too many Kirby themed hacks forget to use them.
