[Cancelled] Super Mario Bros: World-e Adventure.

Standard

Progress is going slowly in levels, but many gimmicks was implemented and some old levels designs was improved.

I received help from many friends around here. I would like to thanks imamelia, HuFlungDu and JackTheSpades for being too patient with me! #tb{^V^}

Anyway, let's get down to business! #ab{:D}

New Title Screen (totally reworked):

SMB2 curtain graphics combined with SMB3 floor and decorations.

Gimmicks:

- New Entrance for Levels!
- Animated Ace Coins!
- e-Coin implemented!
- New Level Ending for bosses!

Level 10 - Para Beetle Challenge

Level 11 - Magical Note Blocks 2

As you can see, I managed to implement the Red Note Block to act exactly like in original SMB3. The only remaining thing is to make rises to the sky as in original game. I know there's a generator somewhere that does this...

Promo Level - Mad Dash!

Prepare yourself to run like a mad! #ab{@_@}

All comments, suggestions, any feedback is welcome people! :)
I like the gimmick of the red note block! I used to have it on my rom hack that originally based on SMAS that Mario would go up that acts like yoshi wings. So, Its pretty cool with exact original promo levels. :D Neat level.
Wow! I really like the level design, map, and new title screen! Keep up the good work! #smw{^_^}
Not much to show here, but the project is going in a good progress I think. Okay lets throw some images here...

The actual super ultra cliche storyline :P

I though better about the overworld (which was leading me to some strange bugs) and I redone it from scratch, but this time, featuring an SMB3 styled overworld.

Game Over new style

Also, I decided to use Custom Musics instead of the SMAS Soundtrack Patch (since it causes many problems). The project uses AMK (AddMusic K) as a base.

edit: already fixed the "i'm" in the first screenshot
edit2: Another piece of overworld:

This looks awesome! Love what I'm seeing, and I simply can't wait to play this! #w{<3}
I find the plot/story quite creative. I'm surprised it has not been done in an actual Mario game.

As for the overworld it looks very faithful to the SMB3 Map. I dunno how you got Mario to move around so fast on it! XD
Thanks for the comments!

Not much to show for now, but I would like to say that I made an userbar for this hack #tb{^V^}

Expect some news in the next days!
Hey!

Just scanned for the screenshots and appreciated some gimmicks explanations so far.

I'm happy to see people taking nearly all the mechanics from SMB3.

I don't why but this game have had much more feels on me than SMW did.

That's why my project tries to simulate (partially) the graphics associated to SMB3, though I continue to design SMW-ish gameplays.

I will for sure watch over this and expect your release ;)

Good luck!

Thanks! I also liked SMB3 more than SMW. I like SMW because of the ease of editing things, but for me, SMB3 gimmicks and mechanics are the best of all Mario Classics series.

I have a new level to show guys! Here it is the first Airship level of World-e. I put all of my effort in this level to make it look exactly like in original game. This level was a pain to replicate everything, haha! Later I will post pictures of this level:

Level e-12: Airship 1

All comments and feedback are appreciated! #tb{^V^}
I have a question for you: It's about the SMB3 Lemmy Boss.
Do you used Ultimate N00b boss or someone made this boss for you?

Also, nice airship level.
Neat! I like how much effort you gave into recreating the level, from the animated BG, the layer 3 cloud and even Lemmy!

I do have some criticism, though:

1. When Mario goes into a pipe, you can see BG overlapping him for a few seconds.

2. The boss needs some polish. The bouncing balls look weird when they sort-of go over the wall, and the shell animation could have more frames (as in the whole spining-shell animation). For the first oddity you could try making the ball poff into smoke once it touches a wall.

Kudos for getting the thread featured, btw.

This boss is a sprite I heavily modified using as a base carol's Lemmy boss. I replaced almost all of the tilemap routine to make it fit with SMB3 style, and added an 32x32 tilemap for shell mode. I even modifed the shell jumping routine to make it look more similar to original game.

1. Hmm, It's a problem that occurs because of the layer settings I'm using in this level. Currently this doesn't have an easy solution. :/
In the past days I was trying to solve an problem involving sprite priorities. It was partially solved, but it affects Mario entering pipe animations and mushrooms spawning from blocks :P

2. Haha, I agree, it needs more polishing. It's the first time I'm trying to code an boss, so when I have some more knowledge, I'll add one more frame to make the shell rotation more soft.

And really, I wasn't expecting my hack to stay in the News section! It was really a surprise to me to see that! Really people, thanks for all of the support! :D
SMB3 and SMW were my fav mario games as kid i love way this turning out the levels everything is really good the overworld Map fit it really well keep up the good work i can't wait play this #ab{;)}
Well, the project looks really good and has potential to be very amazing, so of course it would get featured sooner or later. Just keep up the hard work and doing a great job, Yan. I personally look forward to more of what you will display.
Your layout has been removed.
When I saw this on the front page, for a second, I legitimately thought this was an SMAS SMB3 hack. Nice work.
I'm guessing you're not doing the five SMB1 levels that were remade in the cards. However, are you going to do Airship's Revenge and Spike Fortress?

Thanks! Yeah, there's a lot of work to do. The next levels ,especially these two levels (14 and 15) will be very challenging to replicate. I haven't though yet how I will deal with the lack of screen space we have in SNES. So I'm taking a break from level design and for now I will focus on polishing old levels, add new gimmicks and who knows, new powerups :D

Ahh, I didn't forgot the Classic Levels. They will be design as soon as I finish the Main levels. And for sure Airship's Revenge and Spike Fortress will be present in this project. Probably all of these levels will be part of a Bonus World.
Wow! It is the best SMB3 hack I've ever seen in!
I would like to play this game soon!
It really is the best hacked!#tb{:DD}
Thanks for all of these comments people! That feedback feeds my motivation to continue working on this project, and give me inspiration to polish even more the project to make it greater! #tb{^V^}

Would it hurt if you added more defficult levels of your own after adding all the E-Reader levels? Like maybe entering a optional world after beating the bonus world? More gameplay is always nice XD.

Also, I think I was reading about some japannese E-Reader levels that were never released outside of japan. That's all I know about that, lol. Maybe that didn't help at all, but even so. Like others here, you're doing a great job at your project.

Probably there will be levels of my own around the game. There will be much more than only the Main World-e Levels. Here it is what I plan to do after I finish Main Levels:

Code
- SMB3 Lost Levels with new design and enemies
- My own levels for Bonus World
- A few SMB3 original levels Remake
- All Promo Levels and Classic World-e Levels.

But all of this will take much time to plan and do. Currently I'm working on new gimmicks, new powerups and fixing some bugs from previous levels. This takes a lot of time to do, I hope I can release an demo for C3 Contest in December.
Oh my God, this looks amazing. I can't wait to play this. If you need someone to Playtest you Levels, I'll be Happy to help.
