General Super Mario Maker Discussions

Well, I'm glad they added checkpoints(even if this late), to allow for some more complex levels. Even if you can only place one or two, you should only really need that much for a standard SMM level.
Tried the hard version of Gnat Attack. Fuck me, this minigame is BRUTAL! #smw{x_x}

Personally I feel like it should be two per areas(main/sub), since if level has multiple paths(for example my level has two, lower and upper) its pretty hard to put it in place where its potentially useful, or else its waaay too early into level, or too late(few screens before goal), or then other part lacks the check-point completely.
I'm kind of curious as to why you can rotate checkpoints at a 45 degree angle. It makes sense for 90 degree rotation because then you can stick them on walls and ceilings, but without slopes it doesn't really make sense to have the flags at that angle.

A sign of things to come...?
It's aligned so you can stick it in/on corners of blocks.

I can imagine that slopes will eventually make it in the game as they have mentioned checkpoints came purely from community feedback.

But maybe only in the form of 45 degree angles. Any other would just be too hard to get right on Mario Maker's friendly grid based interface. Just try to place any other type of slope in lunar magic tile by tile. Also cutoff slopes. #wario{>:|}
Why would it be tile by tile?

I imagined it as a kind of eraser that you use to get rid of chunks of land. Would solve the cutoff problem too, I think.
I have played the new update and when i was done, i thought that i actually don't like this game anymore.

It has a lot of stuff already but i still feel like the game is pretty empty. No slopes, can't look up levels by name, Luigi is only avaliable as a Mystery Mushroom, etc.

The new Costumes and official levels aren't great either. The costumes are mostly from games i don't care a lot of about, or something Japanese.

Also, i made 2 levels out of the 5 and they got deleted. They are a little hard, but still enjoyable, compared to what other people make.

Sorry, but i got bored already... I actually prefer Lunar Magic over this, but thats my opinion.
You don't like Arino?

That's terrible.

Arino was the only one that was actually decent enough to give me a laugh.
I'd be happy to make levels if I had Super Mario Maker. Well, I don't.

Unless costume support is added for more variations than just the SMB style, I couldn't care less about it.

My only current frustration is not being able to sort levels in any meaningful way. Other than that, and possibly my level limit (I need more stars, I'm about 20 away from being able to upload 10 more levels), the game is still enjoyable to me.

The level quality has improved a lot since the most recent update. Once we add slopes and more level themes, the game will (to me) be complete.
Nintendo addressed the searching problem in the direct, get hyped for the level database site.

A new Event Course was just released, called "NES REMIX". It's based off the eShop game NES Remix and features 1-1 from SMB with star power and 1-2 from SMB done backwards.

Frog Mario is 10/10 especially because you don't have to put up with the terrible physics the original has, but the event level itself was b a d.

More content coming to the game!
Two of these elements are actually completely new elements that never appeared in a Mario game, if I got that right?
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
A new Costume has been leaked. It's
Mario riding the Sky Pop from Super Mario Land.
There are also two new Costumes, Master Belch and Mr. Saturn from Earthbound. I like both, since i like the MOTHER series a lot.

For info about the new Costume:
