I swear that this'll get no attention in the Collab Thread, so I'll also post this here.


Hi.


For a few weeks over IRC, I've been forming a new and cool idea for s collab of sorts. The gimmick: Each person must make a short-but-sweet Choconilla level using 5 SMW
Screen (Screen 00 to Screen 04) OR LESS. (Yes, you can make a level that is a screen long.)

The hack is also going to be a metroidvania type thing. The collab is 1 giant level. There are 5 floors to the level that act as hubs. Each level is blocked by Munchers. This brings me to my second gimmick:

The goal of each level is to get a Super-Mushroomat the end of te level and get to a door somewhere else in the level. If you loose it, you can always reset the level and try again. Once you beat a level, you can got to the munched fields and use your invincibility frames to get to another level. This also acts a good way to have Force-power downs at the start of each level.

Next is replay. You see, you only need to play 2 levels to get to the next hub. This means that there is always 2 levels that you can never play, which encourages replay of you want to get everything.

And of course, this is a collab. I'll leave the base-rom here if you want to help contribute.

You could just use this instead of abusing invincibility frames. You would adjust the block to be only solid if the player is small (#$00) - any other form would be allowed to pass.

still more intuitive and visually pleasing to use that one custom block instead of using muncher gates, but your call I guess

might contribute, considering I cant finish a level for shit I guess these mini levels are great for me
That was exactly my concept. Heck, you could make a level that is 1 Screen long if you'd want to.
The new base ROM doesn't seem to work. I think you patched it incorrectly.

If it doesn't work, then use the older base rom. It doesn't really add anything else besides my new level (which I can just add in when more progress is made.)

New Base-Rom is out! World 1 is nearly playable now.

Also, Because I'm an idiot, I changed Nick's level to 1-3 and SuperBot12's Claim to 1-2 because Nick's Level Is Harder IMO. Not that it matters seeing as .mwl files don't change anything to major.
What is the difficulty for all the worlds in this hack?

PROGRESS
Looks nice so far. My only complaints/nit-pick suggestions are:

1. The Mushroom should be in a "?" Box.
2. Even though the hub and areas are based around a castle, the hack is not. I was only planning one castle per world but whatever.


Besides that, it looks really nice so far. I like your pallet and enemy placement.
