Banzai Mario World 2 - REVIVED

I get a lot of inspiration from your levels.

I like how the demo screenshots look, I forsee many clever tricks :P

Thanks! :D
Pretty good so far although it seems like some things are reused over and over, such as the 2 turn block thing, the P-switch trap, and the fuzzballs thing. Also the yoshi eating digging chuck part needs to be significantly shorter and easier.

You can get stuck in the water level if you kill the chuck and the turn blocks are still there. You can also get stuck if you get the mushroom in a different spot than intended. (Fun gimmick, but you can easily get trapped)

The five urchins turned out to be really easy.

From "Diggin it" on the overworld, if you go right, the game crashes. (snes9x)

Erh excuse me, I haven't retired from Super Mario World completely now :P

On a side note, love what I'm looking at so far. Probably am going to wait until the full release before I play through it. Keep it up.

Haha is that a dram world 2 hint? :P

Thanks!! Oh also I decided to make the Panga blocks invisible this time and I'm not sure how linkdead feels about it.. haha

Yeah I did use those gimmicks frequently, but it's on purpose; it just takes a normally plain jump, such as crossing a gap by spinjumping on a saw, and adds some difficulty, but I'll take into consideration what you said. The other stuff is used often I guess, I'll try to take out some of it.

Thanks for pointing this out! Getting trapped is kinda the point of the gimmick actually, but I suppose it is kinda annoying to wait for time to run out. I think I may implement a way to easily restart levels like with the L button or something in the final hack.
This hack is pretty good so far. It's not increasingly difficult for the average player, and thus, provides an enjoyable experience. I can say that the ice level that revolves around those flying platforms was pretty hard, although it becomes significantly easier later.
What I do want to nitpick (and it has been a recurring thing in a few Kaizo hacks) is that some invisible coin blocks can help you get past certain sections rather than surprising you. Of course, that's possible to accomplish if you're accostumed to this sort of trap.

Otherwise (and aside from what else was pointed out here), nice demo so far. I'll wait for more content from you.

I can't say I didn't enjoy it though. 4.5/5, mostly from me being frustrated because I'm average, lol

Thanks!! Yeah the ice level is kinda difficult compared to everything else. I've encountered the invisible coin issues a lot too, with people using them to their advantage once they figure out where they are, but there's not really a way around that.

No problem.

I think the ice level that is underground is much harder though. The beginning takes a very long time to figure out, and from there the level keeps dragging on and you die pretty much everywhere. (and you gotta go fast!)

Yeah I think I'm gonna try to make all the levels easier in the real game when it's released, especially this one. I may add custom palettes and graphics too, not sure yet...

Anyways, everyone can go check out the C3 thread of this hack!
UUUUUPDAAAATE (1/5/16)

So as you may know, I've already released the demo for this hack. I decided I would show off some of the levels I've worked on that weren't in the demo, that you'll only be able to play in the final hack. I have a lot more levels besides these planned, but these are some of the ones I've actually started working on. Some are finished, while others are only partially complete.

YOSHIFOOD: This level is kinda like the second level of Kaizo, except there's basically a lot more variations on the dolphin jumps and the stuff required to do with the dolphins. The screenshot here shows some more basic parts of the level. Sorry, I had to do a level with dolphins :P

CHUCK SURVIVAL: This one is inspired from my Koopa Cooperation level from Banzai Mario World. You have to guide a bouncing chuck through the bottom of the level, guiding him through mazes and timing his jumps with layer 2. Also yes that's a floating muncher

FOSS'S GARDEN: The screenshot should explain what the premise of this level is. Similar to this level, it features all different enemies and will be significantly easier than the Kaizo 3 variant.

HEAVEN 2: This level is a spiritual sequel to Heaven, except, like the vine level, this level will be much easier and not feature so many insane blind jumps like in Kaizo 3.

ULTRA STAR 4: Yep, here is yet another level that is a "spiritual sequel" to a level from the Kaizo series. This one is, um obviously a sequel to the famous Ultra Star levels and there's lots. I don't know how many Ultra Star levels there are but I'm just gonna call this one 4 :P

BANZAI BLAST: This level is one of the earlier levels in the game and features really standard level design, much like Get Rext in the demo, except this level focuses more on Banzai bills and platforming.

Sweet, those screenshots look. [Or maybe the other way around]

The original kaizo mario hacks have a special feeling to me, so I like it when people base levels on those.
Once upon a time there was a young boy named JackBot. He lived as a servant in Mike Foss's house as a way to make income. Mike lended 10 million coins to JackBot and now he has about 7 million as the samaritan he was. For these 7 million coins, an old man decides to trade some magic beans with him. Mike Foss watches in despair as JackBot's pocket comes home empty. He threw the beans out of a window and sent JackBot to his room and instructed him to ruthlessly study from RosettaStone in order to "make more money" from people who speak other languages.

JackBot woke up, read a book, and then did his daily skating routine while singing in a wondrous voice. The problem was, he was penniless. JackBot got bored and went outside to find a great beanstalk somewhere in Mike Foss's backyard. Curious and as a bad servant he climbed it, making sure to dodge all of the spinies and munchers lying around (or walking around) [or crawling around] {or floating} |whatever|. It was amazing how he couldn't go through those red blocks but the beanstalk did. He wished the beanstalk would go through those yellow blocks with eyes, too.

But apparently Mike Foss was already at the top of the beanstalk and ate something that made him giant. Mike Foss has turned in to an insane serial killer instead of the nice newspaper "writer" he was. JackBot almost died when Mike Foss made a last ditch effort, trying to fall on him while JackBot was climbing the beanstalk. He then tried to climb it back up, but JackBot walked into a piece of tape and the giant disappeared. Mike Foss reappeared inside the local volunteering center. JackBot then stole a bunch of the giant's treasures by trying to get three mushrooms in each row, column, and diagonal.

No one knows how JackBot got down from the beanstalk, although I think he ventured across even more strange lands and finally finished his quest when a road of stars took him back to Mike Foss's house.

But wow, nice screenshots! Floating munchers are the life blood of Kaizo. I think. Also make the platform with one muncher on it in the beanstalk level narrower, and then expand the left wall so that the muncher sits on that. Probably would look better and be easier.

Lol :P now I only need to fit that somehow into message boxes at the beginning of that level...
And yes of course, floating munchers are the heart and soul of Kaizo hacks. Also, I'm probably gonna fix that muncher part that you pointed out, thanks!

Thanks! Same for me to, usually cement block stacks look ugly to me but for some reason whenever they're spammed with that green star background and all that platforming like in Ultra Star, it looks good.. somehow?

Well anyways, here's two of those levels right now actually. I decided I want some way to show off these levels without making another demo and I don't like youtube so you can watch these here:

Heaven 2 video
Ultra Star 4 video

Don't expect regular updates, or updates at all from this channel.
It looks fine.
Keep it up !

I also have some overworld updates to show. The overworld in this hack will be my most expansive and exploration-based overworld yet, but it's becoming pretty difficult to make. This one is the star world, and there's probably gonna be 3 levels in it, and every level will at one point require you to grow and use one of the different colored baby yoshi's, like in the star world from smw, except it's Kaizo so it'll be difficult.

I don't know how to feel about this ow.. I think there's some perspective errors?

Beating it will lead to the special world, but you need to find some switch palaces first.
Nice videos! Timestamp 1:10 in ultra star looks cheesable by going under the cement, not sure though

Also there are some places where you could get stuck in ultra star, most notably the spot with the baby yoshi?

I haven't payed any attention to this hack, and I honestly regret it because this is amazing!

This is just proof that you can make vanilla look good, I feel like people don't really try to make vanilla graphics look interesting.

Aside from the vanilla-ness, the hack itself looks pretty cool. I'll have to play the demo when I get a chance. Keep it up GBreeze!

Thanks! Not sure about the cheese-ability (is that a word?) of Ultra Star but I'll definitely fix the other stuff.

Thanks!! Yeah the problem is that when people do vanilla they sometimes go all out vanilla, and I think that vanilla is better with elements of chocolate mixed in to make stuff look better and enhance the visuals and gameplay. Also, when done right, I think that cement blocks and munchers can look decent. Of course they have to be done right, which takes practice.
Nice levels you got there (and I could definitely see the Kaizo Mario inspiration flowing). I like the design of the sky level; doesn't look too advanced and lets you know when to hit the switches in the right order. During the second half, I could foresee situations where you could control the switches without jumping from one platform to another and not screw yourself, but that's not a big deal.

Ultra Star 4 (there's a myriad of levels with that name and layout indeed; not complaining by the way) is also well designed, and I dig the platforming. You could be more cautious with the horizontal line guides, as if there's one above the other without a controllable diagonal line guide, the platform can land on the bottom one no matter what you do. Not bad otherwise.

Regarding your submap, I haven't found any notable perspective errors, but are you planning to keep the darkened paths?
