Von Fahrenheit I'm cool actually. I've slept a lot more tonight than usual (usual not being very much)

Sixcorby So, how did you get into SMW hacking, and how did you find SMW Central?
Von Fahrenheit Probably my first exposure to any kind of hacking was Zelda Parallel Worlds that I stumbled across in 2007ish
Von Fahrenheit I tried to get into Zelda 3 hacking but as it turns out Hyrule Magic sucks so I just put it off
Von Fahrenheit Then a few years later (2012 possibly?) I played Brutal Mario and thought it was the best thing ever
Von Fahrenheit I played a few more SMW hacks and found smwc. I stuck around mainly because of how accessible Lunar Magic is
compared to Hyrule Magic.

Sixcorby Have you attempted ASM in any other SNES games?
Von Fahrenheit I have, actually.
Von Fahrenheit I made a FastROM patch for EVO the Search for Eden which removed most of the lag
Von Fahrenheit That's pretty much it though. SMW is so documented that programming for any other game feels like a chore
Sixcorby Nice! How did you get into ASM in the first place?

Von Fahrenheit When I was new to smwc I had already heard of ASM and I knew it was some kind of programming language for the SNES
Von Fahrenheit I tried getting into it and found a (really bad) tutorial. For reference the first thing it said is that "you can't load from ROM". Ugh.
Von Fahrenheit Then one fateful day I stumbled upon a guide written by Nesquik Bunny.
Von Fahrenheit It was called "sprite programming tutorial". My eyes went pretty wide and pretty sparkly.
Von Fahrenheit So without any idea of what I was doing I jumped right in and learned from there.
Von Fahrenheit That's actually how I made my account, too. I wasn't very good so I pretty quickly needed help with my buggy TRASM sprites.
Sixcorby You're one of the newest additions to the staff. How have you found your time on the team so far?
Von Fahrenheit A little scary, but mostly fun. The scary part is actually moderating stuff. I always feel like I might have overlooked something important and someone will kick my ass.
Von Fahrenheit I'll get over it. The fun things are of course hanging out with staff and having crazy mod powers.
Sixcorby Definitely. Were you expecting a promotion at all?
Von Fahrenheit No, it was completely out of the blue.
Von Fahrenheit I mean, I see I have a new PM and it's from Lightvayne
Von Fahrenheit And I instantly think I'm in trouble (Lightvayne does that to people) but it reads "How would you like a job?

Sixcorby Are you working on any projects that you would like others to know about?
Von Fahrenheit Hmm.. projects projects. I am working on the first and probably last hack I will ever work on, currently going under the name of Extra Mario World.
Von Fahrenheit I'm also working on a few ASM projects
Sixcorby What should people expect from these projects?
Von Fahrenheit For Extra Mario World I have the very much reasonable (read: not reasonable) goal of making it the best ROM hack of all time.
Von Fahrenheit With the way things are progressing it's turning into more of a home-brew game and less of a hack, honestly
Von Fahrenheit I'm the programmer for the project but I'm working with PercentN (main artist) and Eminus.
Von Fahrenheit What I really want for Extra Mario World is to show what's possible with a proper team and lots of effort.
Von Fahrenheit For my ASM projects, I mainly have two standalone patches I'm working on: Level Intros and Project VR2.
Von Fahrenheit Level Intros replaces mario start and game over type texts with customizable strings.
Von Fahrenheit VR2 is kind of this huge package with really fancy graphical features.
Von Fahrenheit A few things it will have are sprite BGs, proper OAM handling, and (pseudo) 5bpp sprite GFX.
