What is the Oldest Hack that you think is still enjoyable today?

How far back do you think a hack can be of fun quality? It seems like when it comes to the building of SMW Hacks the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Custom Music, Levels built with lots of BGOs and single-tile columns and rows, high quality custom tilesets, and re-used custom sprites, hacks are still played today for the qualities they had then. Here are some of my favorites.

Mario's Amazing Adventure: I thought this was released in 2013 due to a mixup on Romhacking.net's dates. Imagine my surprise when it was released 7 whole years earlier! This hack has (for the most part) fun, curving levels, refreshing graphics, and some cool shenanigans where you return to earlier maps after pressing switch palaces. The only thing quite lacking is the bosses, but there are still two custom bosses.

Super Mario Universe 2: This was a hack released before its' time. There are custom SMB3, SMB1, and Super Metroid reskins of default things in many levels, the proto-custom sprites. There's even an "airship" with Bullet Bills replacing Eeries and cannonballs replacing diagonal Bullet Bills, and the Koopalings were replaced with "Nightmare Viruses". Also, there's many SMW Redrawn sprite usage due to it just becoming in vogue. It even had a txt file detailing which (silent) levels should have certain music played in the background. Unfortunately, the level design is often too long, meandering, and in some cases, rather boring. It's a good curio.

LoL - Legend of Luigi: The first two worlds have some vanilla and custom tilesets, and one of the first SMB1 Allstars Tile Rips. Iggy's Castle has a particularly impressive tileset. And this was just in 2004. The map also has some simple path changes and visual block rearrangement, and the first two worlds are renamed. Just look at Vanilla Dome's thin bridges over a dark blue sea, it brings to mind "The River Styx". Unfortunately, even though the map's level order is slightly rearranged the whole way through, the modified levels end after #2 Morton's Castle.
Brutal Mario demo 7

Also, TSRP2 and Panic in the Mushroom Kingdom

palace of hentai is still the most embarrassing thing i've seen in a romhack

I also remember the later Mario X World games (DX, SER and BSB) being pretty good

Probably those SIG worlds? (Correct me if I'm mistaken...)

Also, the original TSRP.

List of my SMWC ranks
My hack:
Mine is TSRPR (yes, not the original version, never actually played it). It was my very first SMW ROM hack I ever played. So there's that.

EDIT: I also used to like Brutal Mario, just like someone from above.

TSRPR is indeed a good choice to play, its a oldie but a goodie.
Kaizo Mario
I'd say Super Mario World.
Brutal Mario and Kaizo Mario World.

Eh?
If the original SMW doesn't count, then Brutal Mario and Super Demo World.

To be fair those are the only ones ever that caught my attention for more than a half hour or so, old or new.

Super Demo World.

Hold it right there: Super Demo World is a okay game, but i prefer it's sequel. It has WAY more levels, more gimmicks, and more graphics. However, one issue is that sometimes if you beat a level with a secret exit (or is it the other way around?) you can't beat the level again, which ruins your game for getting 100% completion. Also Super Demo World 1 is the original version, which only was used to test breakable brick blocks (ASM) and it only has about 3/4 levels.

Also Kaizo Mario World is a pretty odd choice for a old enjoyable hack. If you are up to hard stuff i would do it. It's also a hack that exists for quite some time.

Why would it? What is it a hack of?
For me, probably SDW:TLC and TSRP1. I don't think that just because a hack is old that means it's unenjoyable for today.
Legacy custom music
A site where you can be able to hit that dislike where your dislike will be visible to other people and not have to rely on a browser extension as well as actually watch my SMW hacking content

Brutal Mario. All the other old hacks are pretty much trash to me.

allow shy guy emojis in post footers you cowards!
Assuming that level design is good then age doesn't matter for me, there are plenty older hacks I still enjoy. Also was legacy hack selection completely removed from here? I just noticed that its just gone..#ab{o_O}

And I don't see why people love brutal mario so much, its just terrible level design with fancy asm and other crap to cover it, and most of them werent that amazing even at time(as in it didn't make any good use of them, felt too much tech demo to me).

yes

if you really need to download one of the worst hacks in existence go here
DW:TLC, the Super Mario Infinity series, Super Mario Odyssey.
Less old but still very good hacks are Kaos Islands, The Tale of Elementia and of course SMW2+3 The Essence Star. TSRPR is certainly top-notch, but that hack is not that old.
I play different games on Twitch, currently I speedrun Pokemon Gold or play some other shit, can also include SMW hacks. Check out my twitch!

Exits done: 45, Overworld: 85%
Play through Taomb Demo 3
Taomb is alive again. For how long I don't know. But it's "only" four more levels to go.

Afaik TSRPR is actually older than SMW2+3, but it doesn't matter. Anything that came before 5 years ago is old enough for me. Btw, I pretty much agree with Odyssey, Kaos Islands, TSRPR and SMW2+3. Love'em.

I think he meant SDW: The Legend Continues, which is definitely a great hack and the first that I played. It is actually one of the most ambitious hacks ever made, with 120 exits and plenty of secret levels. FuSoYa, who coded the game while his brother made the levels, actually inserted the custom blocks manually into the game, because BlockTool didn't exist back in 2003.

I was just saying, it is amazing how a such good hack was made during the time, #w{=3}
