Vertical scrolling issue with SMB3 Status Bar [Solved]

Hello there,

I have an annoying problem with my hack, maybe someone has any advice solving it.

My level settings are "no vertical scroll unless flying / climbing / etc." but when Mario jumps the camera scrolls some blocks up. Here is a short video demonstrating the issue (ignore the sound problem and the low fps, I'm happy that I was able to record it somehow):

Settings 1

However, if my settings are "no vertical scroll" then it looks like this (notice the fixed camera).

Settings 2

I'm rather confused about this. Has anyone encountered this problem before? I want the settings seen in #1 but they should behave like #2 as it was in the original SMB3.

Thanks in advance!

That's actually intented. SMW was, unlike as SMB3, never intended to have a such status bar so Ladida made it possible to scroll a bit whith "no vertical scroll unless flying / climbing / etc.". I don't know, how to solve it because I can't find the code which controls it.

Okay, my layout looks ugly.
If you change $00F878 from D0 to 80 (In a hex editor) in an original ROM, it switches to this style of crolling, so try seeing if that is 80 and changing it to D0.
Thanks for the replies!

@Saturnyoshi, sadly the value is D0 so no fix with that.

@MarioFanGamer, thanks for making it clear that this is no corrupted rom issue or something like that. I feared that I did something wrong while applying patches. So I can only hope that Ladida has some advice for that and reads this thread..

i actually didn't. that's just how it behaved. i thought it was neat so i kept the effect.

though if it's an issue then i'll look into it
That would be great. I try to capture the old SMB3 camera feel and it would be nice if this side effect would be "fixed".

Thank you, but please, don't bother with it if it is too much work!

add this to levelheight.asm (and repatch):

Code
org $80F6B1
%word($00C0)

(add it after the header : lorom. dont put it before the macros)
Hm, I tried that but then asar won't patch levelheight.asm anymore. It gives me this error:

Asar Error

My code looks like that:

levelheight.asm

What did I do wrong?

I had that problem too but it's easy to fix it:
1. Download HxD (if you haven't done it already)
2. Open with that tool "levelheight.asm"
3. Delete the first three bytes
4. Try it again

Okay, that's an interesting issue I've never heard of before, but I guess it's good to know.

Thank you Ladida and MarioFanGamer very much, now it works like a charm!
