Launching Super Mario 64 Multiplayer directly from Steam?

Hello everyone!

I'm a huge Mario fan and a HUGE fan of rom hacks, and I was blown away by Mario 64 multiplayer. It's amazing what can be done by dedicated people these days.

My PC is essentially a home theater/arcade machine.

I use Steam Big Picture to launch all my games AND all my Roms- it's a beautiful interface and works great.

That being said, adding Roms is a piece of cake, but I can't for the life of me get Super Mario 64 2 player added.

I got Project64k and the file, and the game runs perfectly fine. But when I add it as a shortcut in Steam, it always says "Failed to open file."

Does anyone else put Roms in Steam or does anyone think they might know the solution? I would truly appreciate, been scouring the internet for over a year now trying to figure this one out.
Please help.
Wow, you waited .. very patiently for an answer. I'm impressed, honestly. Might as well throw in my two cents.

Running emulators/ROMs in Steam is something I didn't know was a thing. Frankly, I didn't know it was possible at all.

I guess I'm just a little confused by the problem. You say that you're used to running ROMs in Steam, but this particular ROM refuses to run for some reason, even though it works fine outside of Steam?

I'll take a stab in the dark and say it likely isn't possible. From the looks of it, the SM64 Multiplayer patch uses a lot of fancy ASM/programming tricks, to the point where it's required to be applied to specific types of ROMs. It's possible that some nebulous compatibility error is preventing the game from working in Steam. At least, if you're trying to run it the same way you'd run any other ROM in Steam, then it doesn't sound like there's a whole lot for you to do anyhow.
