Without further ado...
Sixcorby Hi, GreenHammerBro!
GreenHammerBro Hi sixcorby
Sixcorby How are you today?
GreenHammerBro Good, just got home from school today.
Sixcorby Nice to be home.
Sixcorby So, you're mostly known for being an ASM enthusiast.
Sixcorby How did you get into ASM?
GreenHammerBro I got more experienced with ASM when I was little
GreenHammerBro I kept making blocks, looking at many other people's ASM, and it has changed my life
GreenHammerBro I was intrested in smw glitches for the remake of SMA2, and saw videos of smwhacking on youtube.
GreenHammerBro I like the idea of having custom stuff in it
GreenHammerBro I kept talking on the forums about asm
GreenHammerBro My first block was the stationary reuseable p-switch, as smw hackers wanted puzzles with a low chance of getting stuck and the inconvenience of having to use screen exits as a resetter.
Sixcorby Cool! How did you find SMWC?
GreenHammerBro I was playing around in LM until I got bored of it
GreenHammerBro Until a friend (I forgot his name) at my middle school mentions "SMW central"
GreenHammerBro and thats the time I went further than just level editing.
Sixcorby Have you tried ASM in any other SNES games?
GreenHammerBro haven't yet, since I was cautious of downloading ROMs from the internet, because of malware torrent poisoning and stuff like that
GreenHammerBro Smw central has all the resources and they are organized well
GreenHammerBro And it's very easy to hack smw.
GreenHammerBro Since I'm interested in simple platformer games, I have chosen SMW.
Sixcorby Yes, SMW is a great base.
Sixcorby What's kept you interested in ASM all this time?
GreenHammerBro Things I wanted in smw required programming, which is asm
GreenHammerBro For example: I wanted a graphical health bar for bosses and for the player, rather than just numbers
GreenHammerBro I saw this on Brutal Mario
GreenHammerBro And it's... okay. the problem is that "damage smaller than an 8x8" is "rounded" to the nearest 8x8 tile. So I made my own (not stealing carol's work):
GreenHammerBro http://www.smwcentral.net/?p=section&a=details&id=9442 and http://www.smwcentral.net/?p=section&a=details&id=11625 (under moderation, I got permission from several users)
GreenHammerBro With ASM, you have unlimited creativity, no limits at all.
Sixcorby Yes, I bet.
Sixcorby Do you have any projects you're working on that you'd like to share?
GreenHammerBro Yes, my completed project is that health bar for the player
GreenHammerBro I simply reworked this: http://www.smwcentral.net/?p=section&a=details&id=11345
GreenHammerBro It fixes several bugs, I added a 16-bit counter and max HP upgrade
GreenHammerBro and the best: every kind of sprite deals custom damage, rather than extended and cluster sprites deal 1HP
Sixcorby Very nice!
GreenHammerBro My new project I'm currently working on is a series of bugfixing glitches
GreenHammerBro I got two glitches fixed already ("star fix" and "Freeze/Lock fix")
GreenHammerBro glitches that allow the player to manipulate things that effects the gameplay
GreenHammerBro (graphical glitches don't count)
GreenHammerBro Right now, I want to fix a glitch where the player's fireballs warp when they hit sloped conveyor belts
Sixcorby That's great. It's always helpful to figure out how to fix glitches!
Sixcorby Anything else you'd like to add before we end?
GreenHammerBro Yes, If anyone who wants to make a patch and don't know the best place to hijack, I recommend Snes9x debugger
GreenHammerBro http://www.smwcentral.net/?p=section&a=details&id=11501
GreenHammerBro Use breakpoint and input the address
GreenHammerBro Set its "execute" checkbox to ON, then use step into. Because this happens only when a specified address is been run by the game
GreenHammerBro It helps to tell if that address runs every frame.
Sixcorby Alright. Nice of you to share.
Sixcorby Thanks for your time!
GreenHammerBro You're welcome
