Tip: Remaking levels from other Mario games is strongly discouraged, especially popular ones (World 1-1 from SMB or SMB3, for example), as their over-presence in Mario games, official or not, often makes them uninteresting to play.

It's a work in progress, but there are some issues that I'd rather consult others to help me decide what to do about them. I won't mention the problems, because if most don't see something that I see as a problem as a problem, then it isn't a problem. I think

i did?
*ahem* I gave you more time because you showed me progress on IRC (a full level that you said you were going to ditch in favor of this one)

this level was not mediocre, but there's something missing at it. idk what, though. There's a lot of enemy variety that makes the level feel less appealing, but because they're very underused. Take a look at those:

(not the pokey, the lotus)

(both pitchin' chuck and gray platform, note blocks)

The second section not only was buggy, but something that was just there, to fill in. Replace it entirely (tbf I just would make the level all straightforward).

And apart from the things Centipede noticed, I wanted to add that

I thought this was quicksand D:<

And I have this magical rule called do not use chocolate FG unless you get my permission. This graphic style does not fit the hack at all. Don't worry, in M.E. II I will lift that, the hack will be all chocolate.

I go for a change, specially revamp the second part (or merge it with the first section), not using a lot of enemy variety (if you do, use them more then), and using vanilla GFX for heavens sake.

I think I'll keep the first section, but I'll change the mid and second entirely.
Ok, maybe I'll change the entirety of it. I'm unsure, but I'll do something and that is what I am sure of :P
uh ohs double post

Desert Ambience

The revised second part of the level is a bit cluttered, I may need some advice on what to do with some sprites.

please change the music, or at least lower the w volume on it, it's way too loud

these two super koopas will, most of the time, cheapshot the player as they come without warning and are extremely close to the player when they land.

immediately after you enter the second section you have a jumping chuck, a moving question block, and a monty mole as immediate threats. please get rid of a few of these - it's way too annoying to get the power up

tight corridor with enemies that fly right in the middle of the 3-tile-wide opening means it's far, far too difficult to get through here as big mario

[not pictured]
not that long before the level ends you have to rely on the super koopa generator to reach the end...which can be quite annoying, since which side of the screen they come from is random and you can go a while without having one generate from the left, on top of the weird pattern in which they fly. i recommend you add a red parakoopa there to make it more obvious and a little more enjoyable

generally a lot of your super koopa sections leave something to be desired and should probably modified to be more enjoyable.

why does no one ever get it? you're supposed to use the momentum from the slope to get across that gap at the end :P

And as for the super koopa tunnel in the second section, that will be changed. The first section super koopas will be moved back.

Yeah, all two of them.

uh huh, or this is supposed to be a hard hack so I'm making a level that isn't a breather level like I made previously. Yeah, some parts are a bit eh though with the flying koopers

Thanks for the criticism, btw

this hole will kill you if you don't wait long enough, and the section immediately after can crush you if you're too hasty

other than that it's okay i guess
The level quality increased fortunately. It can still see improvements though.

*how can you picture sounds*
The music is... unfitting as hell lol. Please change it.
is the guy at the start shouting 'Allahu Akhbar'?

These super koopa sections are hard to avoid if you don't have a fire flower. Make them a bit forgiving.

Change the music and those issues me and Merc pointed out and this should be okay.
IPS should be correct

this should correct some things I saw that weren't mentioned, (mostly aesthetical things) and what we discussed.
Approved a different version shown on IRC.
