Have you thought about updating the graphics of the main character? Vanilla Mario somehow doesn't go well with the new great bg and fg.

Bowser is on layer 2 here, with the animated parts being sprites, and it took a while to get the movement both smooth and bug-free. Now that I've got the basic mechanics set up, all I need to do is add a hurt condition and build some more of the battle arena (this won't be all of it).

We're still somewhat far from the hack's completion, but we're nearing the part where I might not want to show off too much more of it to keep at least some parts a surprise.

The King's Bauer's fire cannon must have been well-made to attack.

Mario vs. Bauer has a very nice background picture, and it's very simple because it shows impressive fun and effect. If you think about the difference, I remember when the original last boss, Bouser, dropped the ball and attacked it.

It was created on a stage that was perfect for hacking names than before and it looked amazing to have seen screenshots like that. Also, Mario's trip, which has a small enemy, has a long way to go, so it's much different than the mid-term standard that you can pass if you can complete it.

How is it listed above all else when you remove activities with a level of difference?

Time and time again in this thread WYE has stated that he will not update Mario's graphics, and has given various reasons why.

That Bowser boss looks incredible btw, though I am surprised you showed it off considering it feels like a spoiler. Still though, he looks absolutely menacing with his new (not so) clown car. Well done!

I don't mind spoilers a lot myself, but for the sake of everyone else maybe I should be taking that into account? I guess I'm counting on the fact that in the grand scheme of things not very many people are looking at this thread. Either way, there's a bit of content left, some of which I might manage to keep a secret.

Thanks, and I'm sure you could whip up something like this in no time! It's really just your run-of-the-mill layer 2 chase sequence; the only interesting thing I think is the artwork and the movement. It's not that technically impressive, but I'm content knowing it seems that way. #ab{^^;;;}

This is the last level I'm building for this hack, and not counting graphical overhauls, it's also the last bit of visuals I had left to make for it.

I'm really happy with how it came out! This was another one of those levels that I've been envisioning for years and it turned out pretty close to how it looked in my mind, so things worked out really well. I'm glad I was able to end things on a high note, visually.

I've seen some good progress so far (if only I worked on my hack on daily base). I love the idea of an all-season-themed castle.

Decided to post here just now when I saw that silhouette sunset level. The clouds on this background look so realistic and what I like about the ground is that it isn't plain black as I've usually seen in levels like this. It seems very likely it's gonna be released relatively soon. It would be a shame if you lost all this stunning stuff right when you were finishing off your hack.

This is gonna be one of the best hacks ever made!

For all intents and purposes we're actually on the home stretch now - right now I'm implementing the final features and handing them out to testers, and after that it's a matter of refining level design and palettes, adding music, and porting everything to SA-1.

Notice how I didn't say "only" in the last sentence, because I don't know yet how big of a task that will be. I can only hope that it'll all go smoothly enough, and that I'll manage it in time for summer C3. Wish me luck if you feel it'll help! #tb{:)}

Also, here's the last public visual I posted on Discord a few days ago, showing a slight update to the sunset background and the level's slightly dizzying gimmick.

I found myself staring at that GIF for almost a full minute wondering why it evoked such a weird feeling within me until I realized that it reminded me of spending hours on those "scrambler" rides at amusement parks. Very dizzying indeed.

The aesthetics of this level are absolutely brilliant, as usual. The silhouette vibe could not fit more perfectly.
