Super Mario Wuss: Reloaded

Standard

Since HyperHacker has left, and he used a level design style of blatant level edits, let me present you:

Super Mario Wuss: Reloaded

Now, I don't think I have finished ONE level quite yet, since remaking/reloadeding/something is taking a lot of time. I have worked on 1/3 of the first level. Here is a screenshot (or more):

^^ Yeah. This is a Ghost House: Outdoors level, which takes place in a construction site. Its level design is (mostly) based on YI1, since I don't think I'll be changing that much.

^^ This level name is going to be Banzai Site 1. That's why there should be Banzai Bills, right? RIGHT??

^^ BTW, those ledges could be stood on. This is plain decoration, by the way.

^^ Another Banzai Bill, but this time not very threatening.

^^ Those are... you know, those three ledges that hold a Yoshi Coin.

^^ Apologies for the garbled graphics. Those golden blocks shine and they hold a pop-up mushroom.

(An Important Note:
Super Mario Wuss is really easy. Now, I make a bit harder, but still really easy, in my opinion. Enjoy it if you are still needing to get used to the SMW engine.)

More updates later.

The level design looks okay to me, but I think the ground is too flat and that background is really unfitting.

Do you have any suggestions for the background?

I do. Why are you using the re-drawn version?

Because it's (in my opinion) better than the orginal or enchanced one. ExGFX can be used, though.

Why even bother using the original background, get/make a new one

Level design is pretty bland too.

Don't worry, I'm working on Level 1-2 now and it features... well, something. I'm almost done on that level, so I'll show it off when I'm done.

I'm not familiar with HH's work. Level design based off of blatant edits? Does that mean the levels are close to the same with a different athmosphere, or something?
This sounds like a dangerous idea if you can't pull it off well. I'd like to know more of it to judge though.

I don't think the background is unfitting per se, but the palette definitely is. The foreground is too dark for a daytime level. But yeah, there are many custom backgrounds out there that go just fine with SMW Redrawn.
Comparison Update (Spoilers Alert!)

The change in the background makes the level look much better, but others have said this, and I'll say it again: The level looks too flat. And most of the parts I see in this level I recognize from the original game. Let's look at those few parts, shall we?

Okay, I may be a little picky on this one, but this looks like the slope that led to a banzai bill. Not sure how else to describe it, so yeah. Oh, did I mention there's a banzai bill right after that slope?

This is just straight up those four blocks from the original level. Change/Delete them.

That 3-up moon is also unchanged. There's really no reason for it to be there. Also the shell and message box are in the exact same position, as well as the platform there. It looks like you just took it and replaced it with the clouds that were originally there.

Did you even try here? It's exactly the same from the original game, the same blue pipe with the blocks, same exit(even with the lack of the slanted pipe) and same checkpoint placement...

Looks... so... familiar...

I feel the amount of banzai bills here is unnecessary. After all, you go up on a platform right before it, so what's the point? Also, platform that has a yoshi coin in it looks like the one from the original game. Also, you didn't seem to do anything with the clapping chuck.

... Yeah, just a bad blatant 105 edit. You should just make levels from scratch by pressing Ctrl+Del. This will delete everything in the level.
While I do think remaking a hack from a now-left user is a neat concept, you should be take extreme caution with making a hack designed around Blatant Level Edits. Unless you do it perfectly, it'll likely end out to be pretty bad. As seen with Mayrio's most recent comment, there are numerous flaws with "Banzai Site 1". While it is a neat idea, you should definitely move around the platforms and such a lot so it becomes new and more interesting, instead of being extremely familiar to any SMW player in a bad way.
Also, if you're going to use ExGFX, do you plan to use the SMW Mario Maker Graphics in the hack?
I have a DeviantArt, if you do want to see my art on there. I don't really visit it much now, though.
