Oogtar's Quest [C3 Release] I'm always ignored T_T - Winter 2016

I know you've all been waiting for it and it's finally here! Not really because nobody cares about this hack.

I made some changes from the other versions including:

- More levels
- Remember that Giant Koopa Troopa boss from the previous versions of my hack, he was so hard I decided to make him the villain instead of Bowser.
- Some palette changes
- Mario's House/Backyard looked horrible so I remade it
- Other small changes

Er, the music broke in the cave section in the first level. The game is probably still playable but all the sound turns into nothing but crackles.

What emulator are you playing on? I tested this on snes9x and it works.

I found the problem. I'll fix it asap. The whole time I was using snes9x 1.4 instead of 1.53.

The hack started out pretty standart but got better with every level. Level design however was neat all the time. I however didn't liked the F.L.U.D. level, most of the time you could just fly over the level, without any enemie being dangerous to you. The lava palette was also a bit weird. The first castle was interesting and the key asm is really cool, but I think I could have been used a bit more. You also could have more ofter used the green blocks which disappear when you jump. The wind level could definitly use some layer 3 or background... that actually makes it look like a windy level. Also why is there random boom boom battle when you enter one pipe. The other level had nothing that I dind't like (including the other world 1 levels), especially the world 2 castle was fun, but the boss is a little bit overused

. I think every level in world 3 was really neat, just the first level was a bit simple and the ghost house could use a bit more time (died because of the time limit). The koopa boss is still a bit too hard, becuase I sometimes get hit unfairly.

I was intrigued by this hacks' name upon seeing it in this forum. I decided to give it a whirl, and, overall, it's good.
Played on the 2nd of January; review written in advance.
As part of C3, I'm reviewing the hacks that I see by judging them on four criteria.

Aesthetics - 4.5/5
A nice mix of vanilla and custom makes this hack nice to look at. My concern is that it is very generic; nothing really stood out to me when playing this hack. I feel that the hack improves over time in this regard.

Music - GOOD
Judged with a "GOOD" or "BAD" rating.
Well selected choices of music, in my opinion. There is the bug MercuryPenny pointed out, but I did not encounter that bug.

Overworld - 4/5
I find that the first submap is overshadowed by the quality of the second and third submap. They're all great, and very nice to look at. I don't like the look of the white hills in the final submap, but that is just me. Overall, very nice.

Creativity - 4/5
Oogtar is a very strange main character. Is he from another game or something? The plot is somewhat generic, but the custom boss at the end makes up for that. It doesn't stray too far from normal Mario themes, however. I could guess what each world would consist of, which took away from my enjoyment slightly. Overall, a nice hack to waste your time on. The level design also improves as the hack goes on; showing an improvement in your skills.

Overall - Very Good

I would recommend everyone to try this hack out. Good work, nick 139.

Eh, man. No need to feel like this about your thread. You got some nice feedback here from what I've seen during these days of C3. In truth, being worried about attention doesn't make anyone look good. I can say that because, if you look at my past here, I was a freak crying out for attention almost always, and that just led to dramatic events and my retirement from the site. So, what I want to say is that you should cool down and keep focusing in your project. Eventually you'll get the deserved attention and recognition.

You're right. I was just being an attention-hungry crybaby. It's just that my stuff usually got ignored during the past C3s and that nobody really cares about it. Next time, I wont be like this.
