How do I edit Mario 64 level terrains?

How to I edit the actual level terrains in Mario64? Do I have to export the level models to edit them in sketchup? And if so, how do I export them?

Use the SM64 level importer, latest version is 1.9.5, but I recommend 1.9.4, because the latest version is kind of broken. You can make your own level models in the 3D program of your choosing, most commonly used one is Sketchup 8 or Sketchup 2014.

If you mean actually edit the already in game levels and not start from scratch, export the levels from the game using an emulator. (Not that hard, just google search rip models from n64 games.) You can then open and edit the model of your choosing with sketchup. If you don't feel like ripping it yourself, models resource has a lot of models from the game ready for download as well.

Actually both versions of Level Importer 1.9.4 and 1.9.5 are broken. Use Level Importer 1.9.3 for no problems ^^

Hey. Sure I may have been a bit slow and I'm sorry, but never have I once EVER been disrespectful to anyone on this site, including you. So don't go wasting posts just to criticize, name call, and disrespect me. I don't appreciate it nor is it nessesary.

Layout by LDA during C3.
There's actually a tool being worked on that will allow you to edit the existing geometry, however it does not let you add anything, you can only move existing vertices and change their blending data. It's made by Jedi. I was fairly sure they'd posted about it here, but I couldn't find it.
