Chess Tournament - Interest? Apparently so!

Link Thread Closed
For a while now, I've wanted to do a chess tournamen on here. Going by the fact that we have badges lying around there appears to have been one at some time in the distant past.
And furthermore, I see no reason why we can't do another one.
...Well, ok. I can see one reason. That being: Not enough interest. As such, I want to know a couple of things, mainly, would you be interested in a chess tournament.

On the "less important" side is the question on how to do the tournament itself. I was thinking of a round robin styled tournament (all vs all).

Next up, the question of how to play.
The way I see it, there are two possibilities. First, the usage of an online PvP chess site (like this), or second, playing via PM using the LM icon game. The PM version might then be handled by JackBot to check for valid moves, keep game logs and whatnot.

Both options come with certain advantages and disadvantages.
The live site would provide a fast game rather than having to wait for the other player possibly hours. On the downside, you have to agree on a time to play and you can't pause the game. If you're the type who takes his time thinking about his next move, something could come up (dinner, school, w/e), there is no pause either.
Likewise, playing with JackBot/PM has the same pros and cons. The game would be played with the LM icons, which means making your move is a bit more tedious compared to two clicks on the live site.

So, what are your oppinions on this people. I concider myself already a candidate for participating, so that's 1.
Notice, this is no sign up. It's mearly to see how many people would be interested.
Live site, and yeah sure, I doubt anybody here is a chess grandmaster so it should be ok.

with that said i'm super down for a chess tournament, provided that every game i lose is acknowledged as a practice round, and every time i swag on the opponent when i take a piece it counts as taking three pieces
It seems to be interesting, even though I personally do not like chess.

Edit: my first post on this forum

I would be interested in it. A round robin tournament seems good and I guess the live site makes more sense too as long as users can agree with a time to play where they wouldn't get interrupted midway through the game.
I got to warn you guys, Chess has been solved recently. I got the insider scoop and I ain't sharing!
Uhh I think chess won't be solved until like year 2150.

Checkers has been solved though.

Well I'm signing up, PM sounds fine to me and would be more fair as school is starting soon. As for the tournament style, round robin is okay as long as there aren't too many players. A round robin with 30 people is like trying to play Item Abuse 3 without savestates.
I'd totally be in! I personally prefer the live site, but I wouldn't mind PMing.
I'd be interested in participating. Personally, I prefer the PM format since I like to think about my moves, but I wouldn't mind the live site.
Sounds legit. I used to get beaten about by a dude who actually competed though. Prepare to lose!
Master of internet debating.
Haven't played in ages, but sure, I'd totally be up for this. I'd prefer the live site as well. (although surely there must a website for more correspondence-type games where you don't need to do the entire game at once?)

I'd be definitively interested in participating if it happens. I suppose I prefer the PM format but either way is fine by me.

My hacks: Justice for Mario / Unnamed Kaizo Hack
I'd be interested as well.
It has been a while since I played, but I guess this could be fun #tb{;)}
It could be live site or pm, it doesn't really matter to me.

I don't really care about the method we use to play and I suck at chess but I would be up for a tournament.
I think I would participate in a chess tournament although I suck at chess^^
Well, there seems to be enough interest.
I was hoping for like 10 people in total so having past that, it at least warrants a try now.
Thanks everyone for showing interest. We're probably gonna do this sometime after VLDC or around the end of it.
