Would it make more sense to have people pick tracks that they want to hear revamped rather than revamping them all? I know that Torchkas has some serious musical talent, and I feel like there are some tracks in the game that are shitty enough and could use a real revamp, especially later in it (i.e. the factory world and the abstract world).

Instead of addressing things like how there's nothing wrong with what torchkas is doing or how it's actually possible for the songs in this project to feel dated or how absolutely awful your analogy was, I'll just say I'm glad you admit you have nostalgia glasses on.

I'm pretty sure we tried to come up with a "list" before but it didn't really work. Though, imo, I think all songs need to be messed with; from simple remasters to complete makeovers.

About the new factory: I'll admit the new section sounded a bit jarring to me, but it's really just because I expected the old one; it's really not bad and I think I've even gotten used to it already. I guess opinions from people who haven't heard the old one before are welcome, though (hi hobz).

hi magi
note: I don't know what the respective levels look or play like, so I can only judge the songs themselves.

There's really no denying that the new Grass Level 3 theme is much better in almost every way, but they seem to have two different tones. The old theme sounds like something you'd hear in a high-action air level or something, and the new one is a lot bouncier, and a lot more expansive. I don't know how I feel about the interlude about 1m5s into the song, it isn't bad (very wacky, which is always fun), but it kind of halts the momentum of the song. That being said I still prefer the new by a loooong shot.

The intro on the old Grasstle theme works well because the subdued lead really punctuates those crashes, which is awesome, and it's unfortunate that's missing in the new one, but dam that bass sound is sexy. It's hard for me to say which one I like more overall, but I might favour the old one specifically for that extra punch provided to the crashes. That being said, everything that follows the intro is far superior in the new version. Like I don't know if it'd be too intense for a world 1, but as a song it is so f cking good. I legitimately broke into a huge grin at the 45s mark.

I'm assuming nobody is defending the old death theme after hearing the new one, so I'll skip that.
Same as the new forest map.

Daizo i'm not going to be the one to get into the logistics of why your metaphor is unrelated and doesn't help your case in any way whatsoever, but I hope at the very least you understand how disrespectful you're being.

Probably, I started out with the intention of finishing World 1 first and foremost. Worrying a bit less about the other worlds.
I'm completely okay with people giving suggestions for what songs are high priority in revamping.

Also I'd like to know what you think about the Castle revamp.

I'll see what I can do about the intro. I agree that it's a bit too weak, but not necessarily because the percussion is drowned out. I think it has more to do with the old one having a bigger noise contrast between the intro and the melodic section. I'll just experiment with it a bit more.

Fine, you're right, I'm wrong. You clearly are superior than me, so I'll just go ahead and just-

......you know what, I'll admit I feel the same now that you've forced mentioned your opinion really. Sorry for any hate I might've caused. Only thing I'll bring up again is the static on Channel 5 (6 in SPC player), but I'll leave everyone alone now.

Uh... disrespectful? It's called an opinion, but I'll leave before I set more flames.

While I did grow attached to the old versions of the songs, the only one I prefer in its original form is Mechanical Motif (Grass Level 1). Besides that, I'm completely fine with the new revamps and I welcome them. I especially love the new Grass Level 3 and Grass Castle themes. I don't see anything specifically wrong with any of them, so all I have to say is keep up the good work.
I agree with some people that the new Grass Castle lacks some of the original's power. Maybe part of it has to do with lacking echo feedback?
We'll be like diamond: brilliant and persistent. ~
here's a version of the song with louder crash cymbal, more vibrato on the strings in the first section, and more echo similar to the old version.

your dinosaur arm analogy implies torchkas doesn't know what she's doing and is only making the songs worse by adding ridiculous unrelated part to the songs, and the people that like them only do because they sound unique, not because they actually think the song is better. When you say things like "the original was made by a skillful doll maker", it only makes it sound like you're calling her an amateur.
It's not what you're saying, it's how you're saying it.

Torchkas, i really like the echo on the bass in the newer one, but it causes the distinction between those static noises and the bass to be blurred even further. The subdued melody in the original was a stark contrast to the loud jarring static noises, which is what made it that much more distinct. With the louder melody in the new version they almost entirely lose their power. But I don't know how much control those static noises were supposed to have in the original.
I also think the vibrato sounds wonderful.

They were supposed to be similar to the ones in Devil's Lab in FF6 - that is, they were supposed to sound punch-y and bring out a softer melody.

I'm actually on board with the new melody, but I agree that it needs to be toned back a bit. I'm not sure if it's the sample that's too powerful, or the volume is just a bit loud, but my original vision of the song was to have the static be primary. If you could try to retain that flavor - or, hell, even mix the static up with different pitches - that would be great.
BY THE WAY.

I have been kind of working on this from time to time, but all the fucking dropbox links broke and I don't feel like fixing it.
I wonder why that happend, and why not compile the whole reworked spc in a single zip instead?
wow, that's a man with a good idea

not only that but have the zip file uploaded on MEGA or on a cloud site other than dropbox
anyway, the old smwcp2 soundtrack is still available from this thread:
http://www.smwcentral.net/?p=viewthread&t=75992

and the direct link to it from that thread is still working

though I kinda like Moose's old "Entrance" (Desert Level 1) music better than the "revamped" version

Edit 11/4: I have also posted the old SMWCP2 soundtrack (and included the old P-switch & Starman music) here.
