Proposal for smwcp3

Considering Torchkas is the one who posted the music revamp thread, it seems rather redundant to point it out to him.

Also, the music and graphics revamp were a response to the final bits of ASM taking so long, just a bit of polish when there's little else to do.

--------------------
Here are a couple of my thoughts and suggestions.

I think that an important goal for smwcentral this year should be to get smwcp2 finished by the end of the year 2016. Period.

I also know that many people like the small contests and such that this site hosts like currently we are doing the VLDC, but sometimes I have a hard time seeing all these contests and such going on when smwcp2 just sits here collecting dust.

I bet you a million dollars that this current VLDC that is going on right now will be done and completed BEFORE smwcp2 is finished. So how can one project get completed so easily and yet another seems as if its almost impossible?

Some may think that this is okay to work on other stuff and such, but I think smwcp2 is at a point where it just needs to get finished and instead of seeing another weekly or monthly contest on the main smwcentral page I personally would like to see a message that says "okay guys lets get smwcp2 done."

I almost see this issue with smwcp2 as if its like we should be lowering our flags at half staff or something. You know how when you see your nations flag lowered at half staff to morn something like the death of an important person.

I think that is how we should view this situation. We should lower our "flags" so to speak at half staff and let everyone know here that this needs to be taken care of and that this needs attention and that it can't just be ignored for another X amount of years.

Now, back to the topic of getting smwcp2 finished by the end of the year 2016 as an important goal for this site. I think that if this goal cannot be achieved by this deadline then for the remaining unfinished tasks that haven't been completed we just have to simply scale them back to something that can be accomplished an order to finish the project.

For example:

Problem: The final boss isn't coded.

Solution: Come up with an easier alternative for the final boss. Substitute something in its place that can be accomplished. Even if its a slightly modified version of some already existing boss in the database. If a final boss can't be found that fits into the current story of the game then change the story and avoid having a final boss altogether.

Problem: There is a level which requires tons of work to get it to function properly and nobody wants to fix it.

Solution: Maybe just shorten the level so that only the playable parts are available. Maybe scale the level back a bit and take away the stuff that doesn't work. Maybe just scrap the level completely and not have the level in the game if its broken too badly.

Problem: This level doesn't have a song written for it.

Solution: Pick a song that is functional form a another level and use that.

I honestly think that if we cannot finish this hack by the end of 2016 then we should just release the hack as it is and just end the project so that we can all move on to something else. If it ends up not being that great of a game then too bad. Sometimes you just can't win them all. It has had too many years devoted to it to keep it going any longer.

If there are future smwcp projects I also think that these future projects should follow maybe a different model. Look at the VLDC, how many successful contests has this site had? It seems like we have one every year and the projects keep getting completed every year. So I say maybe it might be a good idea for the next smwcp to be very similar to the VLDC, but only with a few teaks or so. In other words the VLDC model seems to be successful so design the next smwcp to follow a similar model.

Maybe for smwcp3 it would be wise to cutback on custom stuff and go for a more vanilla hack. Do something that is easy. Or maybe this whole smwcp idea is just a bad idea and doesn't really work well and we should not have any more of these.

I also think that before we start any more big collab projects that we finish the ones that are currently open. More specifically I am talking about SMWC Island and SMWCX. Its really easy to start a project, I know, but I believe in the phrase "if you start something then you better finish it" and I've seen these projects open for a long long time.

I apologize if there is anything that I've said in my post that somebody doesn't like. Its just that this is how I feel about the situation. I hope that someone agrees with some of the points that I've made and that maybe somebody can contribute possibly better ideas on how we can fix the current situation and how to avoid the mistakes involved in smwcp2 so that future projects won't ever be in this type of situation again.
there are no "issues" like that. like I was saying, the game is done aside from a bunch of minor bugs that need to be fixed.
I just wanted to give a thank you to antimatterhunter since he posted the yoshi's island collab hack on the main page as a monthly feature.

This is exactly what I requested in my last post here and this is EXACTLY what these projects need. They just need a little bit of attention to let everyone here know that these things are still going on.

Thanks again.

You're comparing apples and oranges there. They're both collab hacks, sure, but that's where the similarities end. VLDC is easier to compile because they're just levels, bugfix patches and doesn't require lots of coding. SMWCP2 on the other hand is the opposite.
tbh I'm shutting the site down after smwcp2 is complete so you should be thankful the smwcp2 is taking torchkasian minutes to finish up

I should have something witty to put here (even if it's just to update dated info), shouldn't I?

Final Theory, if you're not going to contribute anything meaningful to this project to help it get done sooner, then stop wasting our time and just stop posting in the SMWCP2 subforum altogether. Thank you.

I would be down for a third collab a while after we finish this. If we plan it well, I'm sure we'll have a lot more luck with not taking too long to do stuff.

seriously if a normal user made this post they'd get banned faster than a dick joke on #smwc

Stop trying to incite a reaction from a low-"offending" post and trying to pull off the "Well if someone else said this..." crap. (No, nothing would happen to them.)

You will not be told again.

that's because backseat moderation isn't allowed

Regardless of whether you're right, a mod should be held to a HIGHER standard than normal users. Your post was insulting and out of line, even if Final Theory was annoying people he was actually trying to help.

What I said to Leomon also applies to you, and if you people are just gonna try to derail this topic to "bitch about mrdeepay or something trivial again", then I'll just save everyone the time and energy and just pull the plug on this one. How about that?

Take your frustrations out through the proper channels.
