Nintendo Switch (aka NX)

Here's the big one. FromSoft has Dark Souls 3 working on Switch, talks of a trilogy release with all DLC

Dark Souls was one of the biggest franchises of the last generation, too bad the Wii U never got one. A Dark Souls trilogy release would be great for all the Nintendo fans who missed out on it. While they are not exactly committed to it just yet, it would be a major third party title for Nintendo to miss if they didn't get it. Hope this actually happens.

That is actually a pretty big deal just for the series itself. As of this moment, there is no console capable of playing all three games. PC has them but Fromsoft has no intentions of fixing the massive mess ds1 currently is on there (there is a lot of people who still consider the first game to ne better than the other two).

Having a console that can play all three (possibly even a remastering of one than just a port) would give Nintendo something Sony and Microsoft don't

I should have cleared it up in my post but the article mentions that it wouldn't be exclusive, but would actually release on all platforms.

"Development on a Switch port has been underway for several months via a small team, with From Software waiting to see initial sales data before committing to producing ports. The plan would be for a Switch rerelease of Dark Souls 3 if greenlit to release the same day as PS4, Xbox One and PC receive versions with all DLC included."

I'd also like to add that From Software was also in the list of developers that were supporting the Switch that Nintendo released.
Great now I'm going to break my controllers over sm4sh lag AND Dark Souls
Eurogamer and Source Gaming have reported that there will indeed be a Gamecube Virtual Console for Switch.

Some of the games we'll see at launch are Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion and Super Smash Bros. Melee, with Animal Crossing coming later, even including the NES games that were packaged with it.

Both sources report that it is being handled by NERD (Nintendo European Reaserch and Development) who did work on the NES Classic Mini.

This would mean that the Switch does indeed have analog triggers. Supposedly, a final decision has not been made on gamecube adapter compatibility. I hope they allow it, knowing that it would immediately lose connection when the Switch is undocked.

Source Gaming also reports that Smash for Switch is indeed coming and combines content from both Smash 3DS and Wii U, the DLC and that this version will have at least 2 new characters.

Bad news is that according to Eurogamer, much like the Wii U, you will have to pay a small fee to transfer your individual Wii U VC titles to Switch, much like from Wii to Wii U, and by the looks of it, not they will continue their model of slowly releasing titles every other week. I don't like this at all. I hope this at least applies to the ported Wii U titles, then. I'd hate to pay another $60 for Smash when I already bought it for Wii U with all the DLC (minus mii costumes).

edit: Video of the Nintendo Switch on Jimmy Fallon. Zelda BoTW played. This is the first released footage of the Switch actually playing a game live, no edited footage.

Zelda doesn't look any different graphically. But there are no frame drops compared to the e3 footage on Wii U. My guess is that the Switch version does actually perform better, neat!

Also, Both Reggie and Jimmy's hands were shaking.

edit2: I noticed some menu-like sound effects playing when reggie takes the Switch tablet off the dock. Like he was fiddling with some settings before handing it to Fallon (after 7:40). Maybe setting it to high performance mode? Simply adjusting brightness? Who knows!
no real plans to buy the NX for me as of now
Nintendo has announced the exact time for the Switch presentation in all regions.

For North America, it will be in January 12 at 8PM PT/11PM ET. Europe will have it at January 13th, 5AM. And Japan at 13PM.

The Livestream will be here that day

Only 30 more days for the event.

In other news, Yooka-Laylee has been cancelled for Wii U, due to "unforseen technical issues". However, they are working close with Nintendo in order to bring it to the Nintendo Switch now.

If you backed it for the Wii U version, you can now opt to get any other version or wait and upgrade for the Switch version or even ask for a refund. By the way they are wording the post, it seems like the Switch version will (obviously) not make the April 11th launch along with other systems, more details of the Switch situation will come in 2017.

I was expecting a Switch version of Yooka-Laylee, but not a cancellation of the Wii U version. Oh well, I wasn't particularly looking forward to the game much, but it is great to have it on the better system. I only hope the different hardware and architecture does not complicate the porting process, seeing how Nintendo fans were the ones who wanted this games the most.

Correction, Playtonic is having Wii U backers wait until January before we can do this.

I chose the Wii U version when I first backed the game, but now I guess I'll get it for the PS4 or Switch. I'm getting the Switch when it comes out but I don't want to force myself to wait even longer to play Yooka-Laylee, so PS4 or PC for me then.

And the livestream! Looking forward to that! I mostly want to know what the price will be, and any info about launch titles would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath.
The cancellation is probably for the best. I really don't want another Mighty No. 9 on the Wii U (performance-wise) and as a developer myself, I know that the troubles they're talking about are not just PR talk, but very real issues. I mean, heck. We're having extremely hard times porting Darksiders to the Wii U - a last-gen game that we have the complete source code of. I have no problems believing that a current-gen game, using more modern techniques, developed in Unity, a closed engine, will be more than just difficult to port to the Wii U. So really, I kinda saw this one coming, and I also expect the Wii U version of Bloodstained to be cancelled eventually (if Unity has problems on Wii U, UE4 will just have even more problems on Wii U, not to mention the fact that UE4 doesn't even exist for Wii U yet, but does exist for the Switch).

As for the Switch presentation, 5 AM CET, cool. Guess there isn't really any need to see the presentation live, though, so I'll just watch it right after waking up.
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
Well that sucks @ Yooka-Laylee. I also backed for the Wii U version, so I guess I'll have to switch to another platform now.

Same, I'm cool with it too. Since it'll be on a school day I might just watch it live

Guess you'll have to switch to the switch #wario{;)}
So... How many Wii U games have yet to be released, then? Looks like it's just Breath of the Wild now...
Let's milk Sunny Milk. Then she'll have enough money to fund Sunny Milk Real Estate.
Everypony's digging with a shovel
We stil have one in the pipe, though I think it's safe to assume that not too many people care about it (especially with the superior PS4, Xbox One and PC versions already out).

As for first party games, yeah, pretty much only Breath of the Wild: Inferior Edition.

Which one would that be?

Oh my God guys check this out
And apparently this is more concrete than rumors.
So yeah, IR sensor on the right joycon and a touch screen might be real

Also whoa VR?! I'm both surprised and excited
It's just a patent. It doesn't mean it will actually be utilized. They probably just want to secure themselves in case they decide to jump on the VR bandwagon at some point after all.

Everything from the patent so far seems to go in line with the rumors.

The drawings are very detailed, reminds me of the patent that came out on the Wii U before it released which did end up detailing the final product. So this might as well be the final patent for the Switch, too. But yeah, it doesn't mean Nintendo will make a VR accessory (IIRC, the Wii U patent had the gamepad Zapper accesory that was shown in the trailer which was never released and even using two gamepads at once).

I looked into the patent and will run down some info:

CPU and GPU is limited in portable mode, as rumored. I an optimistic point of view, this is in order to output 1080p while docked and 720p when portable so games should not suffer drops... maybe.

By the looks of it, VR will work exactly like Google Cardboard where the tablet is mounted on a visor. That is kinda smart on Nintendo's own part. No need for an expensive, dedicated visor like PS VR, Vive and Oculus so this cheaper VR should give them an edge in VR. This also means that there are motion detectors in the tablet, which is necessary for head-tracking. Sadly 720 is not enough for VR. It is going to look jagged as fuck

The patents show some details of the Joycons, each are a separate controller, as expected. The Joycon grip seems to simply be a battery pack, each Joycon still has a separate connection to the system while mounted on the grip. I hope more than 4 are supported at once, because gripped controllers would mean 8 connections are needed. There is a small button on the back of the Joycons, I assume that it will be the button that detaches it from the tablet.

They have shoulder buttons that are hidden when attached, so it should suffice for many basic multiplayer Nintendo games.

A record button is mentioned, located in the left Joycon. A "share" button was rumored way back in september. It only mentions saving images, no video or streaming.

This picture suggests that there is indeed a Wiimote-like IR camera as rumored and, additionally, an NFC reader for amiibo.

The patent diagrams also shown alternative joycons, which suggest that special joycons may even be made for certain games or simply different configurations such as a classic D-Pad instead of an analog stick and Right analog stick above the buttons, instead of below, as some have speculated.

USB-C and SD cards are mentioned again. Time to buy a 128GB micro SD.

might update post later i dunno
If the Switch has touch screen, the stylus will be officially sold separately. Because fingers are better than using a stylus.
If it's a multitouch one, as rumored, there wouldn't even be much point in including a touch pen, since it would have to be made of metal and be at least as thick as a human finger.

It's been a while since the last post, so I'll bump (if that counts for a sticky) with an info dump.

Event will be livestreamed here. Same goes for their Twitch channel. Seems like Kimishima himself will be presenting in Japanese. There will be an english voice over.

- Hyperkin has announced Switch accessories. One of which is a USB-C charge cable, as rumored. Glad to see a generic charging option for this.

LPVG has done a massive rundown on their leaks. Look at the article for all sorts of information.
Some Highlights:
- March 17th release for Europe. Same week for NA and Japan.
- Analog Triggers.
- Many third party exclusives coming
quality of games might be questionable

- One new IP that has not been leaked yet.
- Xenoblade X port happening, Monolith Soft working on another project.

Which brings me to this. We might see Monolith's new project... or just some footage on the Xenoblade X port.

- Various sources, including Eurogamer, LPVG and Emily Rogers are saying that Mother 3 will actually (for realsies this time!!) be released worldwide for Switch VC and will be revealed next week at the event. Rogers previously said this for a Wii U release last year, but it may have been held back for the Switch instead. Laura Kate Dale from LPVG calls it the "Phantom Rumor" which just haunts journalists' credibility. 1-UP Studio is confirmed to appear at the Switch presentation, they worked on Mother 3 back when they were called Brownie Brown.

- Mario/Rabbids crossover is called "Rabbids Kingdom Battle", more of a strategy game, X-COM style, than an RPG. Grant Kirkhope will be composing for it.

- OBE1 says that there will be voice chat for Switch games, including Splatoon and Mario Kart 8. I'd link his video on it but his videos are... kinda annoying to watch. How credible is he? He spoke with Laura Kate Dale and confirmed some matching information.

- FCC filings say that the Wii LAN adapter is supported. Glad to see that. There is also mention of bluetooth, but this is probably the way tha Joycons communicate with the system, not wireless headphone support. It might mean backwards compatibility with Wiimotes and Wii U Pro controllers, too.

- Speaking of headphones, the Pro controller doesn't seem to have any headphone jack.

Just a bit less than 7 days for the event as of this post. I hope it does not disappoint.
