That kinda contradicts itself, doesn't it?
Splatoon and Mario Maker rely on the gamepad a whole lot. They are like two of the top 3 games that use the gamepad well. I can't imagine using Mario Maker with a normal controller to create levels. Splatoon doesn't rely much on the touch screen, but it certainly would be slower opening a map on screen, covering your view and selecting a place to superjump to. Not to mention the UI would also be slower.
3D World uses the gamepad in a few levels, having you slide doors open, touch platforms to make them rise and such. I guess these kind of things could be replaced by more "normal" things.
Although it does make me realize something: Maybe Nintendo will indeed throw out "gimmicky" controllers. But utilize connection with Smartphones or tablets for these kind of games for gimmicks like this. But it would only really work with Mario Maker...
