Yeah haha I guess that makes it not a five-year-old game anymore.
Seriously though they spent several transitions showing the game when I just wanted to see new things. /shrug
EDIT: This post sounded very self-centered and I apologize.
Keep in mind this was purely a preview on the game system itself. When the actual announcement happens, I'm sure we will here way more info on games.

I hope they give me a wii u / trade in discount tbh. Also, RIP 3ds?
I mean, its cool. Basically a console you can take anywhere with you? Thats honestly pretty neat. Nintendo consoles have always been small and light, and easy to take to parties, etc, so this is actually a pretty logical step.
I'm actually most excited about the esports-y part, that part was pretty cool.
I just...... Hope nintendo is gonna do some nice customer quality of life things here, like allow people with the Wii U versions of games to either use or access them on the Switch for free. Also, I only got my Wii U a year ago, just before the 'NX' was announced in the first place, lol. Whiiiich sucks for me, 'cause I spent out money on it for the games that are being ported anyway, lol. Of course if its backwards compatible thats cool, but still.
Also, skyrim being in the switch is a good sign for third party developers. And like, if I can play skyrim or any other 'high end' title on something I can take with me anywhere or play on a big screen, that kicks the ps4 and xbone's ass for me anyway. The only reason I'd buy either of those is to play kingdom hearts 3, lol.
Yeah, its cool. In a way, nintendo just made the best version of the PSP =p. This asks a lot of questions about the future of the DS though. No 3d, or double screens, or touch screens. I will kinda miss it... I might be an outlier, but I really enjoy 3d and vr myself. The dual screens and touch screen though. Hmmm... It can do interesting things, I guess... Maybe this is why Nintendo is dipping into the mobile market, for the sake of games that rely on pointer or touch style controls (like professor layton?). Or maybe the Switch will have a touch screen too, which wouldn't be too surprising.
TBH I'll probably buy one because mobile gaming sucks and I have an original 3ds, having an updated portable console that can play current gen console titles at full quality? That is a pretty amazing selling point if you ask me.

The portable part of the Switch looks too big to fit in a pocket, so it loses a lot of portability to me. Nintendo could still have a market for whatever comes after the 3DS, but the portability aspect of this system will eat into that a bit, so I don't see them doing it sadly.
I look forward to losing just one of the two controller pieces.

It could probably fit into regular large pockets fine if you put the pad and controller in separate pockets. Or, you could carry around a bag. It'd fit into any regular courier bag or anything like that, so its a tonne easier than carrying a laptop. Probably easier than carrying a tablet, if I'm honest, due to the fact you can split it up.
Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo ends up selling some kind of NX carrier thing. (but for the love of god please don't make additional controller pieces as hard to find as new chargers PLEASE nintendo)
Also, yeah, its weird to say but the only way i can see them expanding on the 3ds is making it a mobile designed with the 3ds screen technology and made for gaming, somehow, the NX would just eclipse any iteration otherwise.
It seems like a cool little concept (and the console controller mode also looks like a dog)
Praying that it doesn't end up going the way of the Wii U
This is all I've ever wanted from a console. I can take major console titles with me anywhere. Seamlessly transitioning from portable to TV with the dock was just a bonus. I usually carry a backpack with me, so being pocketable isn't much of an issue for me.
Really excited, can't wait. This is what the Wii U should have been.
Sadly, I'm already expecting a rather low durability for a handheld due to internal cooling and a low battery life. 32GB is also a bit too low for console titles and the detachable controllers are going to have a battery of their own, hope it's not AAs. I can only hope this is all $400 or less.

One of things that bugs me is that I'm not sure if the hardware's going to be good consider the system size, and I'm not sure how well the detachable controllers are going to work in practice (they look quite tiny the Mario Kart section of the video).
Other than that I'm interested, but not quite sold on it yet.* I'm trying not to get too excited about it before they put out more info, even if there's lots to get excited about.
*although if the new Splatoon they're teasing happens then I'm prolly going to end up buying it without a second thought.

That looks way better than the Wii U. Portable gaming experiences with professional resolution sounds nifty. Now if they actually release any games that I will find myself interested in for sure, and enough of them to justify purchasing a Nintendo Switch, and if the reviews are good, this should be fun.
After reading and hearing people talking about the features, I feel bad for having ranted about "being alright with the NX failing" right around the YouTube ROM hack take-downs around Mario Maker's release. I don't really feel like that anymore and I take that back.Legacy custom music A site with a non-useless dislike button SMW hacking channel
Finally, a home console that lets me keep on playing when going on the shitter! The WiiU was supposed to be just that, but the connection range was too short in my case.
Jokes aside, I haven't been this hyped for a system since the DS, but my main concern is the battery life - with such power, I don't expect it to be very long. I also wonder how comfortable the detachable controllers are when held sideways, especially since the shoulder button(s?) are on the smooth side, which means that they could be "Overlords of Hand Palm Obliteration" 2.0 (AKA an NES controller). But I probably won't be using them sideways as 2 controllers very often anyway.
It also looks like they actually have games planned for it this time around, I hope the Mario Kart is a new one and not just a port + new DLC or Switch-Exclusive content. I think it'd be weird to have double items as a DLC gameplay option anyway, but whatever. It does seem to use MK8's assets, especially for the HUD, but I don't really mind since it's really good-looking.
I'm hyped, and yet I can't really say that I'm sold, since Nintendo has been complete garbage on the social front recently, with AM2R, their call for anti-"piracy" warriors to help them fight "evil" fans, releasing all WiiU games on 3DS to make my WiiU purchase completely pointless, taking down porn, and waiting so damn long to reveal the Switch. I guess I'll wait to see if BotW runs better on it, and if I'm interested in other games it has too.
EDIT: I also wonder if the Switch will replace the "DS" line of handhelds - they said it wouldn't, but they said that about the DS vs the Game Boy line too, so it feels more like a failsafe in case the Switch bombs. I simply don't want stuff like Professor Layton to go mobile-only because it requires a touch screen.
Well, for all of you people who wanted to play Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on the new console, it may not happen. A Bethesda Developer came in eventually and said this...
“[w]hile we are not confirming any specific titles at this time, we are pleased to announce our partnership with Nintendo and support of the Switch.”
So this means Skyrim might not come to the Switch/NX at all, but it does mean that Bethesda Softworks and Nintendo have partnered up for this gaming system. Good thing?Unfortunately, I'm not very active on the site anymore like I was before; I'm mainly on Discord now. Thanks for understanding.
That kinda applies to every game that was shown on the console except for BoTW and possibly the new Mario title.
I think it has something to do with this. They don't want to talk about the lineup right now. Possibly to not interfere with holiday season? Could also be a marketing thing, after the Wii U marketing disaster they're probably making sure of minimizing any possible confusion.
Anyway, I still think we'll get some sort of switch related info on the 26th, when their second quarter earnings release happens.
This is pretty much the same concept behind the Wii U, but well executed. A lot of people are hyped for this right now, that and Nintendo getting a lot of third party support is a sign that this might sell well.
I don't think it will replace the 3DS or the DS line, since it has no dual screen, no sign of a touch screen and it's probably not as comfortable to take with you anywhere because of the size.
Pretty much what the Wii U should have been from what it seems.________________________________________________________ Mario the Gaul
Is this Nintendo's version of the PS Vita? I mean, I'm not a fan of Sony and Microsoft's consoles... What's next, the PS5 gonna be a console with a controller with a screen?formerly known as TheBasicASMGuy or TBASMGuy for short. hi.
How does that make any sense? The Vita and Switch have almost nothing in common aside from "can be played on the go".
Playstation Vita allowed people to stream games from their PS4 to their Vita whenever, so powerful console games could be played on the go specifically. They also released the PSTV, which allowed vita games to be played on a TV as if it was a home console. Seeing as nintendo seems to have done both, made the device more powerful on its own and designed their device better for the purposes of doing it, I imagine sony is pretty salty right about now.
Got it. Although the Switch doesn't really stream games to the handheld, the handheld itself is the console, and whereas the PS Vita required special peripherals or even consoles to do all of that, it's part of the Switch's integral design. Therefore I still see huge differences between the two. The controller concept is also quite different.Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!

Nintendo recently confirmed to Famitsu that the Switch is NOT compatible with physical 3DS or Wii U games. (Emphasis on "physical"- it's not able to fit the 3DS carts, and it has no optical drive to run the discs, but that don't mean they can't offer a service to let you get DIGITAL versions of them free!)
I doubt they'll make 3DS games available on Switch at all. They've stated they see the Switch as a "third pillar" to 3DS and Wii U. In other words, it's replacing Wii U, not 3DS, so they'll want you to get a 3DS to play 3DS games.

Razer makes a laptop called a Razer Blade. They market it as a gaming computer that is the thinnest laptop ever- it's even thinner than the Switch! I've seen the specs of it, they're REALLY good, so if that can be done, I have no doubt the Switch can do the power.<Adam> I feel like smwc is a prostitute now, because we put up a porn ad for money
"Third pillar" would imply that it's not replacing either the Wii U or 3DS. Also the last time the third pillar strategy was tried, it was for the DS, and we all know how that went as far as not replacing the GBA. The Switch is definitely replacing the Wii U, but who knows how the 3DS will fare? I think it's still going pretty strong, and the new 3DS is still relatively young, so I think it's at least got a few more years. Plus it's still very different from the NX as far as controls and form factor go, so I don't see the NX replacing it overnight.
As far as Skyrim not being confirmed, I feel like showing "fake" games is quite possible the worst move imaginable in a reveal trailer. I don't think even Nintendo would fuck up that badly. Bethesda probably just doesn't want to mess with holiday console sales of Skyrim.
