Replace Star Model?
Forum Index - Non-SMW Hacking - Super Mario 64 Hacking - Replace Star Model?
Pages: « 1 » Thread Closed
I want to replace the star model with an OBJ I have of a diamond, I opened up the Custom Importer but I can't find anything related to a star. Help!

Stop making help me threads.
You are cluttering up the whole fucking forum for little things you need help with.
Post in the help section and stop ruining this forum.

Now, the answer to your question.
Replace your star replacement over any random object you WONT be using in your hack, then open TT64 and change the model ID to whatever you set it to and behaviour to a collectable star.

Where's this help thread you smartass?

I think there should be a separate subforum for beginners and experts. Hacking SM64 can be very complicated even for relative novices, and there are so many variables that small questions like these can't be avoided, but are sometimes essential. I'm a beginner myself and I know that I'll need lots of help when I create my first release.

You shouldn't be discouraged from asking questions on here because we will all (hopefully) get to play your hack and new releases benefit the website.

Thanks for the amazing layout LDA!
seperate forums is a great idea!
the issue is that this forum is mainly run by people who don't know SM64 hacking and it's community and they somehow refuse to allow anything that could bring some order into this subsection to happen.

mrlsan1, you might benefit from reading the first paragraph of the first post in the help section that you refer to, because Jad is following it:

Here is the problem I have with those types of threads though; Questions can easily be buried among other questions and never get answered. With people making their own individual threads, their questions are going to more than likely be seen and answered. I mean, what is the point of having an entire forum dedicated to posting SM64 questions if you are only going to use one thread? Seems a bit silly to me. So I am turning this thread into a common question and answer thread. Here we can compile all common questions and answers in to one place so users can check them out here. I will leave this thread open, not for users to just post questions, but to help add common Questions AND Answers to the thread. I will then update the first post in the list with anything new added to the thread.

Instead of derailing the "Replace Star Model" thread with forum suggestions, I'd recommend finding a more appropriate thread or if one does not exist, create a new thread so we can all discuss it there.

Thanks for that, and I was unaware of this thread. I apologize for my immature behaviour. Glad there is a better place for my questions to be answered!

Read the rules and the stickies. We aren't doing the megathreads. It's dumb and makes it way too hard to find anything. It's far easier for somebody to see if a question they have has been asked recently by looking through thread titles than by reading an entire megathread. We have separate subforums for showing off your own projects and discussion of ASM/data findings, if people actually use those (especially that second one) clutter shouldn't be an issue.

You've completely derailed this thread while being gratuitously rude so I think you've earned a little break from the forum. You and all the other people who consider having more than one thread in a forum to be clutter can go start a mailing list or something.

Anyway separate question threads are allowed, end of discussion. If you want to run this issue even further into the ground feel free to make a thread about it (if that isn't too much clutter). Any more off-topic discussion in this thread will not be tolerated.

well now that everyone's comfortable with whether or not this thread fits the rules, I'd still really like to know how to replace the star model, since "replace something you won't use" only helps so much when you have no idea what the model id's are. TT64 is painfully outdated now, and Quad64 doesn't show the ID for most of the stuff in SM64 Editor and vice versa. If there is perhaps a list of model ID's somewhere it would be a god send, since I can't find one myself even after hours of searching. What would be an even better solution though is if there were an expanded list of models to replace in SM64 Editor's custom importer. I'd add to the list myself but I have no idea how to find the RAM and ROM offsets and all the other information that goes with it. If anyone could help with any of this I would be eternally grateful.

I tried doing this (with a model already in the game for testing purposes) and the star continued to have its original model, even after saving. #w{:s}

Either I'm doing something wrong, or maybe the star's "use collected or non-collected model" code is overriding the model ID. #smw{o_0}

If the latter is true, then I'm really in a pickle here. #smw{>_>}

SUPER MARIO ODYSSEY: GAME OF THE YEAR 2017
Use the custom import section in SM64 Editor and create a new custom import. Put in 00219C5C and 00219C64 as Pointers and put in 8040364C as Import RAM offset. Last thing is to put in 120364C as Import ROM offset. Leave the other two blank. They don't need anything. Have fun with importing new models for the stars! I'd like to see what you have imported when you do so!
this is so old wow
