[Game Maker 8 Mario Fangame] Mysterious Islandz

Mysterious Islandz in a nutshell - Hard 9 World fangame in development started by me in 2012. Was rebooted last year because certain decisions were not up to par and I wanted to give this game more of an identity by also having graphics unique to this game I made and a few close friends that I have asked of their services.

Engine Used: Gatete Mario Engine 8 (older version), for Game Maker 8.0 and 8.1

Music System: SXMS. Uses SPCs from the music section of past and present. Also SPCs found elsewhere.

Screenshots:

Videos:
Currently they are rather outdated so I rather not show. If you must, Here is my YouTube channel.

Go on the Nintendo Community Fangame Convention website to download the 2015 October demo. I have made many alterations since I last released a demo.

Future:
- 1 World Demo.
- Replace some of the more poorly-done graphics I have made. Also release said poor graphics.
- Rebalance certain stages that I find to be rather unfairly difficult.
- Add in more graphics and objects.

Modern Redrawn Mario Bros. 1.5 (last update - February 14, 2023, some new bonus frames, tons of minor touchups to various poses)

On Pixel Art Requests: Depends on what it is and if I have the time for it. If its complex and I don't have the time, don't expect me to accept it.

For the most part, it's looking okay; though there are little varying bits of inconsistencies. Like in Screenshot_9, you have a tree-stem tile that's clearly decor, but the same texture is used for a solid object in another level. You need to make decor objects distinguish-ably different from objects you interact with.

Also, it's never a good idea to release a poor version of graphics, then go around and make a better version of said graphics, that's equal to having a little squat and shitting on people; if you plan to release then update, best update, then release.

Otherwise, graphical inconsistency does show, the hills in Screenshot_11 look infinitely better than Screenshot_9; but you did say you plan to update said graphics, so that one can be passed by.

As said on IRC, it might be in your best interest for future reference to take screenshots of the the more interesting areas, like sloped places and highly decorated parts of the level(s)

Hope to see more from you here.

1. Because tree stems as décor have a bored hole and appendages on it while interactable wooden stems have an actual top and bottom to it. Horizontally oriented vesions have sides. That said, I could draw a new graphic.

2. Because people have done it before and I don't see much of a problem of it? I do find it that if I release my old graphics people will use that I still use currently, the identity this game has striving to have currently will be lost.

3. Eh not really graphically inconsistent but screenshot 11's hills will be updated to be more or less like SMB1's hills. I will also update screen 9's hills to be more distinguishable and less blended in color.

4. I'll do what I can in that with future updates. Your points overall though are valid and I will do what I can to heed them.
