Welcome to my C3 Thread in which I'd like to present you the project I'm currently working on:
Some of you may remember older threads in which I've already showed off parts of Mario Catalysm,
but even if you know those threads, I guess it's worth looking through the mostly new and edited pictures!
I've started working on this hack in 2011, but I wasn't lucky with the results so I completely restarted in 2013.
The project folder stayed mostly untouched the last two years but after I've finished school some months ago,
I came back to the old levels and started to improve them and added new ones.
I'm gonna give you a list what this hack consists of:
- 8 Worlds with a variety of levels (the worlds are grass, beach, forest, cave, mountain, clouds, space, final and special)
- Mostly self-drawn graphics (i.e. the forest, cave or cloud GFX)
- Completely self-made music (be sure to definitely check out the soundtrack here!)
- Fresh ASM gimmicks (of which some are self-coded)
- HDMA and scrolling effects
- diverse layer 3 backgrounds
With all these features included, I still want the hack to be smw-ish.
That means that I try to use Mario-like graphics, avoid using sampled music / keep SMW's original instruments
and not overwhelm the player with new aspects in gameplay.
But before talking too much, here are the screenshots!
#1 - #3: Displaying the OWs from the first three worlds here. I'm not happy with the border, but I had not enough time to create a better one.
#4 - #5: The first level called "Lotus Hills". As the name includes, this levels' features are the lotus plants.
#6: A level where jumping is disabled, moving on platforms is the key here.
#7 - #8: A vertical level called "Digging Deeper". Mario is able to destroy small blocks using the X button is this level.
#9 - #10: The silhouette level from the beach world.
#11: Reef Diving with a lot of currents and a touch of mazes.
#12- #13: Interior and exterior views on the pirate ship located in the beach world's bay.
#14 - #15: "Shot Forest" with apples. Should explain everything.
#16: A fortress level where all is about fire.
#17: Probably already known, my favourite level called "Blaaargs!". Contains some line-guided passages.
#18 - #19: Frozen cave where pressing a switch causes the ice to melt and enemies to move.
#20: Just a small screen of my snowlevel set-up, haven't built a level there yet.
#21 - #22: Small excerpts from two cloud levels, one at day and the other one in the evening.
#23 - #24: "Hot Dry Land", the introduction into the final world. It's planned that hot meteors shall fall from the sky.
So finally, I have to say thanks for your attention and it would be a pleasure to read your comments and thoughts onto my work!
I will definitely keep it up until the hack is finished, so be prepared to play it once!
