Super Mario Logic Grand Release

I have finally submitted my game to the hacks section. In my personal work in progress thread I linked to a near finished version of the game, but the 8BPP Nintendo Presents screen didn't work on real hardware.

Now thanks to my great programming friend of mine the intro screen now is 100% compatible with real hardware and so the game is now finished. This release will most likely be the final release of the game.

I also want to take a moment here to give a big thank you to all of the members here who helped me with this project. Without the generous help I received the game wouldn't have been completed for sure.

Now without further ado I present my game Super Mario Logic

And here is the download page.

If you have haven't played the game yet then please do give it a try. It is aimed at being a non-kazio puzzle game that is beatable without save states.

I'm always in for a little puzzle hack. Definetly gonna play it

I played the first 40 stages of the earlier version you posted, was great fun! Looking forward to playing this version later, this time I'll do it to completion.

That's simply amazing. I've kept up with the progress of this hack, and your puzzles are mostly well done, so I'd be more than happy to give it a try. I'm also surprised that you managed to make it work on a real hardware, since I'm assuming very few projects actually succeed on doing that. Nice job so far!
I remember playing the demos. p fun game. Will be sure to check this out.

Most modern hacks released this year & last year are playable on actual hardware. The main reason older hacks weren't compatible was because older versions of AddMusic were coded with ZSNES in mind.

Hi.
By the way, you should probably release the fixed 8BPP nintendo presents screen with the real hardware fix.

I will play it some other day, probably after I finished playing VLDC9.

Some bugs I found:

Im stuck

While its not huge deal/problem, Im not fan how some puzzles screw you over if you dont act fast enough(like in the pic related Im stuck because I didn't know where hidden blocks were).

You can clip through corners(and die) with the number blocks.

Otherwise, seems solid.

I've always looked forward to this hack, I'm happy you managed to complete it! I'm in level 44 and I really like it so far - each stage is thoroughly developed with a clear image in mind, and it shows. Also that title screen looks gorgeous #tb{;)}

Quest on Full Moon Island 2

For some reason a turnblock randomly spawned up there, and now the spinning one never stops spinning.
what

Other than that this is a really good hack, but god some levels are sadistic.

edit: wow what a nice surprise. Also S.R.H. and Berkay are the same person, lol
Also in the credits, you might want to change my name from Kaisaan Siddiqui to Kaisaan Squiddiqui...

i'm 100% sure this is impossible without glitches

Just to clear things up. The 8BPP patch hosted here on smwcentral doesn't work on real hardware. It just so happens that I have a friend who is an excellent asm hacker and I went to him and asked him to fix this.

He couldn't fix the patch, but he instead custom coded this thing on the rom an order to get it to work. I therefore do not have a fixed patch for the 8BPP Nintendo Presents.

I don't really consider the top two as bugs. I tried very hard to not put things into the hack that are trial and error dependent, but since I limited myself to just using SMW's vanilla resources to create the whole game, these were literally the best ideas I was able to think up. Plus you know as a smw player that turn blocks don't turn forever and so you have a limited time there. Also you can always turn the block again with yoshi if you hold on to him.

A quick Start + Reset gets you right back into the action.

The clipping on the coin block, now I will have to look into that.

That is so strange. I have tested this hack out MANY times like probably around 100 playthroughs and I never have seen that glitch. I even tested on real hardware and never saw this.

I actually tried very hard to make the game as user friendly as possible. I cut back on the difficulty over and over again. So what part was sadistic? Also this is my very first hack/game I've ever made.

You should really remove the part where it mentions "custom" stuff, as %99.9999999 of the custom thing only appear on the title screen and ending. It will really throw your player off guard.

Although its a vanilla themed hack you would be surprised on how much custom stuff actually went into this thing. A lot of it is invisible, but its still there.

Just for an example, my custom sprites are:

- The Kamek on the title screen.
- A different Kamek on the castle story screen
- Mario on the title screen and the LOGIC logo are one gigantic sprite
- The windows on the castle story screen are sprites
- A SMB 1 only right scroll generator
- Custom goal sphere sprite
- After touch shatter sprite by GHB
- Stationary Magic Koopa by Yoshicookiezues
- A few display graphics sprites in levels to prevent cutoff
- A sprite that scrolls the level vertically
- A custom 1 time only Blargg sprite
- The dissassembly of the small birds at yoshis house
- A special goal sphere that is affected by gravity by the biob
- The mario, peach, luigi big graphics sprite at the very end of the game

So even though it may not look like I have custom sprites and such I do, its just that they are mostly invisible.

I will also go back and correct some of the credits.

Thanks to everyone who tried it out and played it!

Okay I will explain this one. The thing is, this game is super hardcore about the original rules of SMW. In fact I ended up learning tons of new things about SMW that I didn't ever know simply because I was trying to create levels with all the stuff the original game has to offer.

So here is the explanation.

The red berries just make yoshi grow. The pink berries make big yoshi only poop out the cloud game. So you have to grow yoshi big first with the red berries and save the pink ones for last. Not only that, but you have to eat the right pink berry first and then the left pink berry because if you don't the cloud game won't have enough room to give you the coins that you need to beat it!

The entire game is made on purpose to not require glitches or save states or tools.

*The more you know* :)

[edit again]

I have now fixed the credits and fixed the coin requirement blocks that accidentally kill the player if they jump in at that exact angle that was mentioned above.
I have been looking forward to his hack and while I enjoyed the first few puzzles, I'm unfortunately stuck due to a bug: the bat in the first cave level has no collision (I just phase though it) and it's preventing me from completing the level.

You could also shorten the victory screen, as sometimes it may take more time than the level itself.

Intended.
Get the Yoshi and the key, throw the key up the sky, and then quickly ride the Yoshi. Unmount it in a way you get an air boost (jump and press up+a), then air grab the key and put it through the keyhole.
