Always. In fact, you've been tried and found guilty of excessive obsession with underage anime girls and their undergarments, impersonating a female user, flagrant lack of capitalization and punctuation, and general irreverence, and you'll probably have to pay the "calling the king a jerk" tax as well. Punishments for those infractions all add up to exactly one ban. Unfortunately, as a mere section moderator, I don't have a warrant to use the high-grade banhammers on a delinquent such as yourself, so you will be spared this time.

Anyway, now that the entries have been revealed...I'm not that sorry that I didn't get to participate, to be honest.

Yeah, there's some pretty stiff competition here. Still, I bet you could have at least made it to the second round and maybe done something great there. I personally did not feel super inspired by this prompt, so that's about all I'm hoping for.
maybe the round was too specific, and he's hoping that if he makes it to the next round, the category will be something a little less restrictive?
ask me if i give a f*ck...
How is anything in this contest restrictive? You are getting a theme, anything else is fair game. If I remember correctly from the discussion, you don't even need to restrict yourself to Mario hacking? This round, almost everybody seemed to have made a type of after-level bonus game, but it could also have been an in-level one, or just an entire bonus stage, or maybe even a homebrew, honestly not sure about the last one, but I think so at least.

Or it's as he says, he wasn't very inspired by this round.

More like I'm about 95% sure that I wouldn't have had both the coding ability and the creativity to make anything that would be able to rank above many of the other entries. Or were you referring to HuFlungDu?

Why can't we see the ASM code of the patches? Just curious. I might need one of these in my game.

You can as soon as the round is over.

Yeah, the codes, image sources, credits and all will be revealed as soon as the round is over. Because these things identify who made each entry.

Also plz use this thread to discuss instead.

I meant that most of my best ASM hacking has been done from a place of pretty powerful inspiration. Whether that's CLDCs or some of the stuff I've done for SMWCP(2). I always had something specific I wanted to make. This round felt like a real chore to me, I did not have any inspiration for my idea, it was just something I thought I could do that would be interesting enough, and could probably get me to the next round. If I could do so, I would point at one of the entries at clearly being inspired, but I guess that's against the rules, since it would tell you that it's not mine.

So what I was saying was, I'm hoping that whatever the theme of the next round is, I actually have some real inspiration and can do something great, like I feel I usually can.
Is it true that the SMWC staff will release the bonus gimmicks from other contestants? As far that i saw in the thread:

So...if the contest is on hold, does that mean we can polish up and release our bonus games, or is the hold referring to waiting for more entries?

They will be released together a .zip file but it's up to the author submit to the sections.

I highly doubt that will release the bonus gimmicks, but the main problem is that some bonus gimmicks requires Mode 7 to work.
I have a question: Knowing that will release in ZIP file, will you release in ASM and CFG files or in IPS file?
the ips are already available in the voting thread

And that is a problem... why, exactly?

So yeah, can we do the next voting round with only 3 days or so? Unless you wanna keep doing this until next year.

Small voting rule change: voting less than 16 submissions won't have the "-2" in the formula, so the last place will still get 2 points while the rest will get 0 points. The current formula pretty much made last entry score same as unvoted entries, which does not make much sense. Voting for all entries remains unchanged.

I might consider that for the next round. @ JackTheSpades

Ohey, finally ROUND 000 voting is now over! Things didn't went out how as expected but I liked the amount of entries and the overall quality of them. I'm surely this is just the start and I believe we can still produce lot of cool things in our awesome contest!

And now, the time finally reached! Who are the great winners of this round?!
ROUND 000 RESULTS
#1 Thomas/Spikey 93.65%
#2 TheBiob/Belome 61.78%
#3 Alcaro/Shadow 61.65%

#4 Lui37/Booster 61.16%*
#5 Ladida/Lakitu 61.08%
#6 Jack/Troopa 56.57%
#7 Medic/Snifit 55.49%
#8 Sonikku/Ninja 50.10%
#9 HuFlungDu/Jester 49.40%
#10 Erik557/Terrapin 41.27%
#11 Dotsarecool/Birdo 40.63%
#12 Un8Y/Axem 37.02%
#13 DarkBones/Croco 36.32%
#14 Ruberjig/Boomer 32.57%
#15 p4plus2/Dodo 12.50%
#16 Bio/Pulsar 9.48%*
As you guys know, unfortunately two heros must have to go this round. With that, p4plus2 and Bio have been eliminated. Thanks for participating!

Congratulations however for Thomas, the ROUND 000 WINNER! With that result, Thomas got a 20% score bonus for the ROUND 001. How cheating!
As well TheBiob and Alcaro, which got respectively 10% and 5% score bonus for the ROUND 001.

If you want to see the full round calculations, they're available here.
* Note: Lui37 and Bio had part of their scores discounted due of sending their entries after the deadline. If Lui37 didn't miss the deadline, he would've scored #2 instead. Bio would remain unchanged.

Oh and of course, here is the full resources and codes used by everyone. It includes the code, music, patch, image sources, etc., so if you're interested in using or knowing more about an entry, it's about time to download this pack! Authors are requested to adapt and submit their submissions to the ASM related sections. I will be giving more 5% score bonus for who submit their submissions to the ASM sections before ROUND 001 voting starts officially. How nice!

And that's all. Stay turned in, because the ROUND 001 will start soon!
The first phase is complete and I have informed the Triumvirate of your progress. While the full report is classified, I believe some general observations can be discussed in the public space.

Many of our aspiring scientists, mad or otherwise, show clear potential. The previous assignment might however have been insufficient to allow for a full analysis of their abilities.

From a gameplay perspective, bonus games do serve some purpose, but are ultimately, at best, a distraction from the core game mechanics. For this reason, it has been decided that the next experiment will, instead of taking a break from the main gameplay, be a highly distilled version of it where your skill thereof is put to the ultimate test. In everyday parlance, I am referring to a so-called video game "boss".

In reference to the 2016 amendment about optional democratic processes during events, I hereby announce that the exact details of this next task can be voted upon here. We have allocated 72 hours for this process.

The Triumvirate is hard to please, but judging from some of their reactions so far, some of you may ultimately succeed.

Oh boy! A bonus for something I felt like doing anyway! (Because I honestly won't be using the bonus game for anything myself anyways...) If anyone has any specific points of polish besides making it more modifiable, lemme know!

HYYYYYYYYPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEE!!!

(...Been waiting for an excuse to code a boss literally since I started ASM Hacking...)
Eh, sure. Why not? Kaizo hacking doesn't seem too ha-aaaaaaand I broke the ROM.
what the heck was with the schizophrenic voting on mine. i was either getting near the top or dead last?

anyways grats to the round winners (and to everyone else for actually surviving round 0 lol)
Voted for the first option of the new challenge, it seemed like the tidier choice, but not necessarily the least creative one.
Voted the first one as well, fusion isn't that interesting and crossovers succ.

Your entry had Brutal Mario syndrome, technically impressive but not actually all that fun.. at all.

Make it shorter and maybe add some other stuff that flies about other than the TARGET stars.
