Seriously, this is looking great so far! I'm loving your graphical changes and your multiple design changes, thus, the first level is seeming much better than what it was before. However, I have to agree with Golden Yoshi, multiple foreground types placed in one single area of the level is kind of awkward - glad to know that you're going to use only one foreground for everything.
Oh, and also, I was taking a look at some of the graphics from the ExGFX section sometime ago, and I came across this - don't worry though, I'm not forcing you to use these graphics - I only think they would fit nicely in the intro level.
Also, I'm extremely glad to know that you're going to release the first demo soon - can't wait to check it out!
This hack gets better and better, I love the BG in the first level, it really fits with the FG, the intro is nice and a great start to the game, I have tested the rest of the levels, and I have to say, they are really well balanced, I love beta testing
It sure has been a while since I posted anything here. I have been busy with the hack...but I mostly want to keep the juicy stuff secret. I also said that I wouldn't be showing any more new levels. That being said, I have a video of an older level...remade!
I know I said I wasn't going to show a new level until my hack comes out. But...this isn't really an entirely new level...and I wanted to show everyone that I haven't given up on the hack.
As of now, I just need to make one more full level. A few people are generously drawing me some graphics I need for the level, so progress has been a little slow while I wait for them. In the meantime, I have gone back to a few levels and added a few new things. This level is one of them.
This level was severely outdated, and it wasn't really up to par with the rest of my levels. Although it was a nice level, there were a few things I wasn't too happy about. So...I redid it. I added new sprites, a few new graphics, redid the middle part of the level, and added a little bit of story.
Anyway, I was pretty happy with the way this turned out. I'm aware there is a bit of slowdown in places. I removed quite a bit of it, but there are still a few places that slowed down. It isn't too bad...but I'll try my best to relieve some of it. Those pelican sprites seem to eat up a bit of memory...but I can't take too many sprites out, or the level will be too bland
Also, there are still a few secrets in this level. A few are recycled from the old version, and one has been remapped. Anyway, enjoy the video
That pretty much sums everything up regarding the video. A huge thanks goes to SNN who composed the "He's a Pirate" song for me. It's fantastic, thanks!
Let me know that I have been following this hack for a very long time, and it is one of the few genuine ones still around. I actually tested this level in particular, and I can guarantee that it is high quality. FS4 has revamped this level countless times, which in turn helped the level drastically. It now plays great, and is visually beautiful.
I must say, this hack as a whole has top notch level design. I'd say when it is released, it will hover near, if not in, the top five.
I really like the look and pace of this level. The pirate-themed enemies along with the wooden ship FG give it a great feel. I like how you spaced out the enemies well in the first area, as to not jam too many difficult challenges on-screen at once. The second area seems to have plenty little areas to explore as well, so that's great.
Um...one thing I thought was pretty odd was going into the walls of the pirate ship as if they were pipes. That just seems strange, as players may not readily guess that the wall acts like a pipe (well now that they've seen the video, they can, but you know what I mean). Also, the text in the "GOAL" block looks a bit sloppy...could you maybe fix that up a bit?
Very nice, and of course, it's great to see the demo nearing completion. ;)
I have moved everything from my C3 thread to here for those who haven't seen it yet. Feel free to comment about anything. (Don't forget my wonderful poem that totally took twenty minutes to write out D:.)
Sit down my children, and I'll tell you a tale,
About a young boy with a mission...a mission he could not fail.
He lived in the land of beginning...the land where life was born,
Yet an evil arose to claim what was forlorn.
The evil had spread across the land,
And nothing could escape his evil hand.
But a hero had risen, and had gained the power,
to overcome the evil lord, in his very own tower.
The two met in a violent clash,
Yet neither was willing to throw in the sash.
The boy then knew what he had to do,
as he conjured up a void, that engulfed the two.
The evil was now purged from the land,
and the people of Asgard now could stand.
They rebuilt their land right up from the rubble,
Yet were blessed to rebuild without a struggle.
And now we have enjoyed a millennium of peace,
Love and harmony would not cease.
But now something sinister is forming,
As the hands of time are turning.
A new hero will rise to vanquish the night,
As he is the morning sun, and will bring us light.
I have kept many things under wrap regarding my hack...yet this little poem (pretty badly written I should say) reveals a nice little portion of what to expect from the game. I won't say too much, as I've said pretty much everything that can be said...so here are some screens. Many will be familiar to you all...yet some are new:
As the hero climbs the legendary tower,
He would never expect what was about to transpire.
A dimensional void had opened above the castle,
And engulfed anything that dared to travel.
The alternate world was a world of terror,
Who could be the infernal dweller?
The smog was gone, and there sat the night,
What had happened during the tragic fight?
And here is a trailer that my bud Kc made for this momentous occasion.
