It's not more gory than it has to be... ok, might depend on your definition of gory. If you just mean bloody and brutal, then yes, it has instances of these but not overwhelming, no actual gore in the anime as far as I can tell. The manga sees to be less censored, so maybe this is just the TV release and the bluray will actually be less shadowy.
It can be depressing for various reasons, which I'll not go in dept about. I guess a good word would be "deep". It has quite amazing character development and puts a lot of effort into the story it wants to tell.
Thing is, I can't really tell you what the anime is even about without it being spoiler for the first episode, since it does a fairly good job setting things up by itself.
However, this works vice versa, after watching the first episode, you'll know what you're in for.
Hmm, all right. I`ll definitelt try it and see if its good or not, then. If its really like your saying, then I can be able to take it, especially since I watched Fullmetal Alchemist (which was a little gory and depressing) and I still enjoyed it so who knows? I`ll probably try it out after I finish my ecchi anime backlog, though.
