and there's also what's been said a million times over the past year or so - that is, stuff IS getting done behind the scenes it's just not posted on here.

dunno what they're going to do about the deadline
It'll be finished up sometime very soon, Lui, Magi and co. have been making steady progress.
The deadline was more of a tool to get ANYONE to do something.

Yeah the deadline has been vetoed by me some weeks ago.

As leod said, as long there's real progress, then it's all ok.

The main problem I see that said progress isn't really being shown and thus it feels like nothing is going on with the project.
That being said, I'm willing to believe that progress is still going on.

Join the IRC where stuff gets discussed then!
I mean yeah it'd be better if they made it actually obvious and kept people up to date, but in the end that doesn't really affect the production speed itself.

I kind of feel having things (activity, updates, decisions, ect.) being only shown on IRC is actually a rather inadvisable call. While it works to have things get some progress made in real time, it's kind of awkward for the final stages of a site wide collaboration being only decided on an Instant Messaging system where anyone whose curious about the state of the project or even if anything is happening at all won't be able to see if anything is happening 24/7, since it is not in the sense a record keeper unlike the forums where at anytime at any day can progress be posted and at (again) anytime and any day people who are curious or concerned for the project and any decisions regarding said project can look at it and respond if they so wish.

If it is all just on IRC, then what happens there happens in a flash and it is later swallowed up by LOADS of text.

I should have something witty to put here (even if it's just to update dated info), shouldn't I?

Because at this point the progress are mainly these things.

- ASM-related fixes.
- Level updates to improve some difficulty balance.
- GFX improvements, many levels look far better now compared to when they were made.
- Music improvements, which has been shown in the pinned topic.
- Various implementations.

#smwcp isn't that fast, traffic-wise. Failing that, just doing the command !ar log will load the chat log.

It's not a call. There's really nothing left to do except walk down the list of issues and check them off. I guess we could probably post the list somewhere and make a post every time we cross one out, but that doesn't seem super productive.

Why not? It's the easiest way give everyone a sense of progress (including the progress-makers themselves) and prevent non-IRCers from making these kinds of thread every few weeks. In my eyes, anything's better than to leave us hanging.

I think that vetoing the deadline was a big mistake. Postponing it would be better. Without a deadline people would not have any motivation to finish.

Not to be an ass, but the people who are actually working on the project disagree with you.

If you're so worried about it getting done and people not doing things, come to the IRC and talk with Lui about getting access to the folder. There are graphic things, level things, exit things, code things.

You won't though, because you're too busy, or you don't think you have the expertise, or you just don't care enough except to make threads and ask if we're done.

Again, I don't mean to be an ass, and this isn't really entirely directed at you, it's just stuff that's been building for quite some time.
says the guy that thinks vetoing the deadline was a mistake even though the project is already under massive pressure and is also disorganized af

Maybe you should be more detailed?

We, the people who are working on it, disagree with the notion that that stupid and unrealistic deadline actually made anything happen. HuFlungDu was working on the project before the deadline and mantained the same rhythm after it was announced. I had to stop working on the project for a while because VLDC9 happened and real life caught up. I don't know about torchkas, but I'm pretty sure her situation was sort of a mix of mine and HFD's, so yeah.

I don't think a personal attack makes your argument any stronger.

I like how you didn't address his actual point: Why aren't you helping, then?

Maybe you should think how to contribute to the project or make it more organized.

Okay, now read that aloud in front of a mirror.

---

Anyway, how about weekly deadlines? They'll be easy to follow (even if we end up doing nothing for one reason or another), are orderly, aren't unrealistic (getting something done is way different from getting everything done), and round up everyone's latest contributions nicely so we no one has to make posts announcing that they moved a tile 16 pixels in whatever direction every time they do so. Either sunday or monday would work for that, I think.

--------------------
Dunno what your problem is, Koops, you should be glad that the project is still going to be finished after all this time.

Also HFD's post is about as little of a personal attack as you can get. He legitimately just said that if you want to see progress, try helping out yourself (eg the same thing you threw at Leomon).
Claiming that the person that's been the most active (whether or not you can see this activity doesn't matter) is just attacking you when they're giving you tips on how to fix your situation is kinda counterproductive.

I mean I'm aware that thinking isn't your strongest point, but come on.
(That was a personal attack)

Okay, so two people are against the deadline. What about the others?

Said 'two people' were among the heads of the production. I'd say their judgement works best in this case.
I think others' opinions should also be considered, and not just two people.

Perhaps, but as heads they have the responsibility of seeing how the general progress of the project is going, and can see how there being a deadline in place has affected the speed of said progress. And with that knowledge, they decided that a deadline really hasn't done much of anything.

Observation, not personal attack. Those are all valid reasons, they're just the same reasons everyone else has. And saying we aren't working hard enough to get this done while you are using those excuses gets annoying. Again, not you specifically, everyone who does this.

There are 4 people still working on this, to the best of my knowledge. MDP, Magi, Lui, and myself. Of the four of use, three have said they didn't like the cutoff, and that it didn't help, and one has not weighed in.

I said this before in irc, I'll say it again. When I originally made this deadline, it was around the time there hadn't seemed to be any real progress for almost a year. ( hfd says he was working on it, but I'm usually sitting in #smwcp and I hadn't seen anything much except maybe something here and there) The deadline was made in hopes that people would see it and realize we have a goal to try and meet. Studies have shown that people work better when they know there is a goal to be reached, which smwcp2 did not really have at the time, other than "get it done".
I never really wanted to release the project unfinished either, call it an empty threat if you want, but in the back of my mind, if there had continued to be no activity such as it was, I was prepared to do what needed to be done and Lui agreed at the time.

The past month or so it seems activity spiked up again, whether it was due to the pending doom date or not, who knows and at this point I don't care. There is work being done and I lifted the deadline off the project after talking with HFD about it a week or two ago.

Similar isn't it?

... Not really, no.
Try rereading both and thinking really hard what each one means.
