Untitled Vanilla Sonic 2 Hack - Marsh Palace Act 1

Yeah, I did show a video of a Sonic 1 hack, but I made the mistake of not having a backup and messing that up, so it got scrapped. While the Sonic 1 hack never panned out, I figured I'd give hacking Sonic 2 a try. So far, I've gotten far enough to make a thread over on SSRG, but I figured I should make a thread here too.

Yeah, the videos are titled "Jade Valley," but the Zone itself is still called "Emerald Hill" in-game. I haven't yet learned how to change Zone names on the title cards. I also remembered that Jade Valley has already been used in Sonic Robo Blast 2. If/When I do learn to edit the title cards, I think I'll name it Verdant Coast.

If you're new to Sonic hacking, I must admit this is pretty decent from what I've seen so far. The only oddity I saw in the hack was the raising platforms in act 2, but apart from that, pretty good! What program are you using for the level design?

I'm using SonLVL by MainMemory. It's about the closest thing Sonic hacking has to a Lunar Magic-esque level editor in terms of accessibility.

VIDEO OF CHEMICAL PLANT ACT 1 The video is a bit outdated. Due to either my own cluelessness about how Sonic 2 works or a bug in SonLVL, a huge portion of my original level's foreground chunks got deleted. I didn't have a backup at the time, so I had to rebuild those parts of the level from memory, and it's not exactly the same as the level shown in the video.

I've slowly been making progress on this. Sonic levels take much longer to build than Mario levels due to being longer and more complex. Either way, I've finished up Act 2 of Chemical Plant.

Guess I'll have to double-post since I have more progress to show. For starters, I finally got custom Zone titles working. So far, I've renamed the first five Zones.

Emerald Hill = Verdant Coast
Chemical Plant = Night Skyway (This one's subject to change. The A in "Skyway" appears discolored for some reason.)
Aquatic Ruin = Marsh Palace
Casino Night = Spirit Casino (It's a reference to the local River Spirit Casino. I got inspired to name it that, and change the palette again, by passing the RL casino on the way home from an ophthalmologist appointment.)
Hill Top = Magma Bluff

I've also finished Marsh Palace Act 1.
