SMW Graphics Guidelines (Changes)

Since little changes count, we'd like to notify everyone for the few changes made in the SMW Graphics section's guidelines!

Summary
  • For Foregrounds, all of your Map16 tile acts should work properly. Failure to follow this would result in your submission getting rejected!
  • Please optimize your Map16 tiles and make it look organized. Which means, your Map16 page shouldn't take unused tiles more than the one your submission will be using.
  • For much easier insertion, ExGFX files should be named as 'ExGFXxx.bin', where xx stands for the number. This isn't a requirement, but this is for more user-friendliness.
For more clarification, look at the actual guidelines page. I also optimized a few rules to make them look cleaner. And with that, we also made a page for the tags list, right here!

Any questions? Ask here!
I didn't even know there were pages for section tags. Neat! What about the much-needed culling of graphics that, while functional, are entirely useless and/or hideous?

Such as...? As far as I know, most of those have always been rejected.

I'm surprised this is a new rule. I thought that this would been a reject reason ages ago? I guess I don't pay enough attention to logs.

By "the number" is it just any random number? I feel like that could be a pain when different ExGFX submissions use the same name.

Yes, but all the user would have to do is change a few characters in the name. If we don't go by this rule people could name their ExGFX files as, for example, "Hahaha this is a huge file name [BG1].bin", which certainly takes more effort to rename.

Edit: also, it makes our job as Graphics Moderators faster, since we can readily insert those graphics and test the sample level.

I guess unless the moderation team is ready to defend strollin stu, I meant graphics that either clash terribly with the original smw graphics, or are too ugly in their own right to justify using. I guess ugliness is subjective, but it's still a pretty big issue in the section.

So basically you're saying we should just ignore every hack that uses a more detailed graphical style? ...Really?

Now these are worth a removal indeed, but sometimes we just end up with these submissions that don't have so many issues and we happen to be lenient. (Strollin' Stu isn't one of them though, I'll give you that. I might remove it later.) So umm, if you think an accepted graphics submission isn't worth being hosted here you can just PM the graphics manager (Hinalyte) so they can have a discussion with the team regarding it.

As an additive, I hate inserting levels and seeing the "ExGFX file not found" error AFTER I had inserted ExGraphics.
Damn, no love for my boy Strollin' Stu. But really, I don't see what makes that submission worthy of removal at all.
idk what to put here
