Obituary Statement

I feel absolutely terrible having to write this, but it pains me to say eXcavator has passed away on November 2nd. eX was a great joy to talk to on the site and on irc, and I know myself and many others will miss him dearly. Even though we wouldn't always agree on things and I may have been too hard on him over the years, but god damn he was a lot of fun to have around. No one deserves to go out at such a young age with so much potential to accomplish great things. It hurts to think that I never actually met him in real life and haven't even heard his voice except for maybe a few times on Skype years ago. Still, I am glad I got to talk to him as much as I did, and I'll miss him so much.

I know this is already implied in Reality Corner, but please keep this thread as serious as possible. He deserves as much respect as SMWC can give.

Skewer Edit: To anybody wondering, I am going about indiscriminately disabling layouts in this thread. I'd like to advise any future posters to please do the same out of respect for the passed away. Thank you.

DiscoTheBat Edit: Devann talked to me and he wanted to relay some information regarding of what happened, so, I'll be disclosing the message given to me.
Quote
I reached out to Nick's father over Facebook. To paraphrase, I explained to him Nick's impact in my life, and what his son meant to me. The next night, tonight, the 30th of November, he responded to me, with gratitude and politeness.

He explained to me that over the past couple of days, he has been able to talk to a few other of Nick's online friends, and how they all had nothing but kind words for his son. He said to me that he appreciated everything that everyone has said to him. He explained that once Nick's mother is ready, he will be showing mine and others' messages to her. He explained that Nick's sister was coming to visit him this weekend, and that he would also be showing her my messages, and then said that they would make her feel good. He said that they were an inseperable pair.

He then linked me to a global post on Facebook that he had made, where he announced what Nick's official cause of death was. The exact quote from this post: "The official description is: '...Cardiomegaly with Biventricular Hypertrophy...'" While he did, in fact, have drugs in his system, Nick's heart was unusually large, and the walls of his ventricles had began to thicken and harden. He then said that this was a hereditary condition.

I asked him for permission to share this information with you, to which he granted. He said to me "I put everything out there so that Nick wouldn't be dismissed or his life misrepresented".

I can safely say that Mr. Arts should definietly not worry about this issue, as we all know how much of a wonderful person his son was, and the impact he had on all our lives.

I then gave him the link to the announcement thread on SMWCentral, which he said he would look at tomorrow with great interest.

Same here.

He was a rad guy to hang out with.
Gonna miss him a ton.

Don't really know what else to say, sorry.

eX was a person I always enjoyed conversing with and I thought of him as my first real friend on the site. He always had something interesting to say and I really enjoyed playing forum games with him, along with chatting with him on IRC. He was a great debater (even though I didn't always agree with him!) and had a fantastic insight into the real issues.

He will be sorely missed and I am sorry for his family and friends' loss.

... I claim no love for the Irish language, but as he had Irish ancestors I thought it important to say this:

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

(May his soul be on God's right-hand side.)
excavator was a really cool homie, and it's a shame i never got to meet up with him (doubly so because he's literally just a river and some change away from me). we got even closer when me and ergazoobi invited him to play tabletop games with us (we'd often joke about how he was too lazy to read core books). i'll fondly remember all of our philosophical discussions about everything from our existences to weed and the weekend. all the love goes out to him and his fam, and hopefully he can rest easy.

fuck 2016. seriously.
didn't really speak to him much, but he was a nice guy from the times we did interact. Jesus Christ

idk what to say right now, this is actually really weird. Wasn't expecting this at all.

just noticed he hasn't been on steam for so long. all this time, he's been sitting vacant in my friends list and i didn't even assume anything...

best wishes go out to his family, this has gotta be really hard :/
I think the fact he was only 20 makes this worse. I didn't know Exca very well, but even so this feels really sudden and awful, considering he was a "regular" on CaffieNET.

Well that fucking blows. I didn't know him but I casually talked to him on IRC a couple times. I feel bad for all his loved ones. What a shitty and untimely demise.
kinda speechless. i guess all i can say is i suppose i didn't know him as well as i'm sure a lot of you did, but i communicated with him on discord occasionally and he was indeed fun to talk to and was overall a chill dude. my best wishes also go to his family and his friends both irl and on here.

was not expecting at all

same
i still cant really put coherent sentences together but im gonna try.

exca was the shit. i dont even know how long ive been talking to him but we go way back. i remember skyping with him and at like 1 am and we were both playing sutte hakkun for some reason. i remember talking music with him even tho we had pretty much nothing in common musically. he was one of the first guys on smwc i really opened up to prolly, i always felt comfortable telling him personal shit cuz i knew hed listen. he could be a bit argumentative at times but it was never for malicious reasons and he was one of my favourite people to talk to and a fucking great friend.
Wtf. I didn't even know him well but he's 20 and also far contact makes me sad. I'm still wondering how he died..
Oh man, Exca... this is horrible. We didn't talk much, but my goodness. This is sad. My best wishes, I solely wish we could extend some kind of emotionally supportive hand to Exca's family. This must be so tragic for them.

My best wishes to Exca's family. He was a really nice guy, the limited interaction we had. I'm glad I was able to help him out when he needed/wanted it, so I can safely say I have no regrets. He was a good guy. He had a lot of potential to be seen.

Like everybody has said here, he'll be missed, very much so.

(Disabling my Layout because ya, serious.)
I, um. What? Is this is right guy? He's fucking gone?
Fucking speechless. I'll miss him.

FUCK this year.
20 and so young...my god.

I don't know him personally as well but I too share the sentiments of those who know him more. He will be missed.

My thoughts go out to his family and loved ones of his.

[19:43] <StrikeForcer> I also want to say that "because everything on the internet is definitely true!" is a derailment tactic that serves as a shorthand change for "I dont accept the facts"

[19:44] <StrikeForcer> When the information posted clearly is fact-based.
I was never super close with eXcavator, so I didn't know him all that well. I've often wondered if/when/how internet people would find out if I died. Experiencing this kind of situation from the other side is a totally surreal experience. I wish the best for his family and other friends.
This was enough to get me to sign back on and make a post. Look, I'm not ashamed to say that I locked myself in my bathroom, sat down, and cried. I have been here at SMW Central for an entire decade, and I have very real friendships that go even deeper than some of the physical friends I've had throughout my life. To see one end like this is terrifying and heartbreaking.

My friends here have seen me grow up. My first day of high school, my graduation, my coming out, my first relationship, my first job. eXcavator was one of those people who saw it all. He was part of my close-knit group of friends and we got to know each other quite well. When he disappeared for the past month, I had just assumed he was busy, just as the rest of you did. But this? This is something none of us saw coming.

Disregard the physical distance and cherish those online relationships. Tell your friends you love them every day. Behind each of these screens is a real heart that just wants as much love as the person sitting next to you in the real world. Love your neighbor, even if you're in Louisiana and he's in New Jersey.

Rest in peace, eXcavator. I love you, man.

quoted for fucking truth, dude. just because it's over the internet doesn't mean you don't have a connection with another person. internet friendships are just as valid as irl friendships.
I have never known eXcavator that well, I only know him by name, and I've seen him on the IRC a LOT.

Unfortunately I don't have any idea what I should say, other than that this really really sucks.
My best wishes go out to his family and friends, losing someone close to you is extremely hard.
