From the SMWCentral image at the top of the site, it looks like the person who did it walked up to the cake backwards and then retraced their steps on their previous steps. And it looks like they drew an M on the cake and then threw it on the floor a little bit.
I hope I'm not too late to join in on this? I want to find the cake thief and reprimand them for wasting such a valuable dessert.
Hmm, yeah, the footprints definitely have some importance here. If this was a modern-like mystery a la Phoenix Wright, we could analyze those footprints with a forensics expert, but I dont think that`s possible here, is it?

I think Wario did it. You're reading the M upside down lol.
I have my suspects.

Mod edit: keep this to a PM with Pennington, friend!

Ruberjig edit: Whoops. Thanks.

Hello again! First of all, I'd like to thank all of you for taking your time to help me out in this intriguing task. Not to dismiss my own ability of figuring it all out on my own, but you know, even the greatest minds can use some help from time to time. A handful of you even have your final answers packed and sent my way already!

The search hasn't ended yet, however - in fact, I still need to find some time to read all of your answers, and perhaps do some more searching here and there. So you all have until this here forum closes to send me your answers. Even if you haven't signed up yet and you've had a sudden burst of interest in mystery solving, come and post here and I'll add you onto my helpers list!

And once again, good luck, fellow members!
Wario is always greedy for everything; cake included. He would eat it all. He always has the kind of rivalry with Mario that would encourage him to try to frame Mario for it. 1000% sure of it. Now lets lynch Wario like he was the Mafia.
Wario has been lynched. He was the Libertarian Anarchist.

It is now night-time.

Your layout has been removed.
Is Wario a Libertarian?

I made sure my answer was correct canonically, so if I turn out to be wrong it's either Pennington's fault for lying about the clue or
the writer's fault for looking over the detail.

Wait a minute...

<PM sent to Pennington>

Can I join?

Want to see my Super Mario Timeline?
I'll sign up here at the moment, Mr. Pennington. Let me in.
So... I think it was obviously Wario or something like that...
or maybe a Muncher. A floating Muncher.
Just to remember guys: All you need is heal. #HelpKyoAniHeal
